The sad thing is, if they really did use this type of trailer for Force Awakens, everyone would be saying they ruined star wars.
Star Wars WAS ruined. They removed the gravitas and drama to replace it with sound bites and awful, awful moments
As Dave Handelman demonstrates, they could do really sweet trailers for a great film and everyone would be saying they ruined Star Wars.

This is really just a fun exercise in editing. Still, no matter what trailer they release people will still say they ruined Star Wars.
FINALLY a good fan made trailer, I've been looking through so many Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Style trailers and this one really hit the nail on the head.

It did NOT reboot the original trilogie. Everything that happened in the original trilogy still happened in TFA. It dit not erase the whole timeline and start from nothing again so no it did not reboot the original trilogie. It used the plot from episode 4 in a new fashion as secondary storytelling device, but it did not reboot the original trilogy.

The Crystal Crystals what I meant was that the events of episode 4 still happened in the timeline. and yes, episode 7 uses the plot of four but using the same plot does not make it a reboot. to be a reboot it would have to erase episode 4 in its timeline and start to tell the same events in its own fashion. but it doesnt. its new events and new characters continuing after episode 6. they just use the same plot module, which doesn't matter because the movie uses it as a secondary device. the focus of the movie are the characters and their interactions and that stuff is new and often refreshing.
Yes, I love TFA, it was by far the most fun Star Wars movie, it had realistic characters, a great villain, and it felt like Star Wars. People only hate it because they want to hate it, of course it has a few flaws but the fact that it used the plot of the original Star Wars is a but in a new way shouldn't be a considered a bad thing. Unfortunately people are most likely going to whine and bitch about the tiniest little problems with the next two sequel films.
Makes me wanna rewatch it right now! EPIC!

clint lamberson too hard... since non of the rogue one characters have a quirky personality that fitt with the guardians of the galaxy trailer. I think It can work better with the war of the planet of the apes trailer.

What's great about this video is that it shows how the marketing for Force Awakens kept a lot of the best moments out of the original trailers
I rotated my iPad screen and liked the video each time the video refreshed from the rotate. I think I liked it a total of 60 times...
The saga movies lend themselves so well with Guardians of the Galaxy. It just so happens Han had all the best lines (of course)
Amazing how different cutting, music and context transforms this in pure comedy. Well the original movie had much comedy in it, but this here is a totally different tone. Great work, very entertaining.

Oh this is your best one in a while. Your Star Wars trailers based on those for the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie were good, but "The Force Awakens" has a lot more Whedonesque snark. Well done.
These star wars mash ups are some of the best.
The oldschools can hate all they want, I think this movie was awesome from start to finish, also to me it was genuinely funny and by far the funniest part of the whole franchise
Da Falk Old school here, and I love both of the new movies. It seems to be folks who grew up thinking the prequels were the height of Star Wars cinema and were raised with the EU as the backdrop for all they know of the universe that hate TFW and TLJ the most.
Rj W I don’t see why Disney just won’t make the EU canon again, and just have two timelines. Star Trek’s done it for years and it’s been working well enough.
