Rand Paul calls GOP colleagues hypocrites

  • Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) took to the Senate floor to criticize a spending bill that he says adds billions of dollars to the US deficit without debating amendments to the bill, effectively blocking a key vote that would avoid a government shutdown.
    Senate leaders have no plans to give Paul a vote on his amendment so that means a shutdown, for at least some period of time, is likely, even though the votes are there in the Senate to pass the deal.
    Paul's amendment deals with restoring budget caps or not suspending the debt ceiling or some combination of those two ideas, according to a GOP senator.

      I partly agree with you, but Rand being in favour of cutting taxes fits his narrative in this video that the government should spend less. The problem is that: a) the Reps & White House got their wish for a giant tax cut, and b) these wishes (more military, relief support, etc.) cost more money. That's why a tax cut by itself was a bad idea.

    • @OlafPijl
      @OlafPijl Před 6 lety +2

      Let's keep one big thing in mind. During both the Reagan and Bush tax cuts there was a rapid shifting in this nation from high-paying manufacturing jobs to low-paying, part-time, often only temporary service industry jobs. Many, many people were suddenly unable to make ends meet even if they worked multiple jobs at once. Families fell under the poverty line en masse meaning they no longer had to pay income tax. Trump's tax cuts, on the other hand, are being coupled with a rapid restoration of high-paying manufacturing employment. We now have the hope that a family will again be able to live quality lives on the income of only 1-2 members. As more people rise above the poverty line and as more businesses open and return this means massive income for the nation as a whole-even with the lowered tax rates. In other words, instead of making money on high prices (ie tax rates), the government makes a greater profit on volume. This is smart, smart business. We have never seen this strategy in our lifetime. Please stop making false comparisons, generating needless fear when the reality is that we have much to hope.

      And where are you seeing $1.5 trillion being cut to give you solace in that statement of the obvious? It's axiomatic that if you cut spending you can cut deficits. But absolutely no one in Congress is voting to cut spending, only revenue. So, now we're going to see $2.2 trillion cut just to pay for what the GOP has done in the last month. And that's on top of the exploding deficits already happening prior to the tax cut and this latest stop gap spending debacle. So, while Sen. Paul is correct, he's not practicing what he preaches by any stretch of the imagination.

In order to offset those tax cuts, the government has to make massive cuts in wasteful spending like occupying foreign lands where Americans are not welcomed or benefitted. And the irony of this bill is to spend more money that the government does not have and will end up having to borrow where the tax payers in the end will have to foot the bill. Make sense? 🤔

      I agree. He has filibustered for privacy and against government mass surveillance too. There needs to be more people like him in our government and Senate. What we have right now our corrupt politicians. How can they rack up 20 TRILLION in debt, something all of us Americans have to pay for, and then act like everything is fine? Lmao. Rand Paul is right.

      This is the issue that Paul is saying in the video. The Left always wants more welfare and the Right always want more military. But, Paul wants less of both. Let people keep their own money instead of paying tax to spend on the poor or military.

      You are so politically ignorant, first of all he voted for a tax cut for everybody. 2nd, if you had any knowledge of the issue you would know if you taxed the rich you are so jealous of at a rate of 100% it still would not even come close to fixing the problem. 3rd, the only way to fix the problem is to cut spending. It is time for the people of this country to get their shit together and take care of themselves for a change and stop relying on the government to do it for them.

    He's right and its why we need Mass adoption of Bitcoin/Cryptocurrency The Government can't spend money they don't have with Crypto. Most seem to have forgotten that Bitcoin came about to fix and prevent the Crash in 2008 from happening again. But it can't stop it unless we as a people step up and start investing in a Decentralized Currency that can't be Printed outta Thin Air. And can't be spent without actually having it.

    They all usually say the right thing. Then once in office the system takes over and none of them are able to execute. Its the same cycle over and over....the time for government to fix itself has come and gone. The people are the only ones that can fix it. None of this will ever happen while one of our greatest domestic threats, the media is allowed to hide behind our constitution. Racism will never go away while its a money maker for some and the last excuse for others. If we don't get over it then we cannot get on with it, our country will follow the empires before us that have failed.

But the content is critically different. Thatcher: "If the right honorable gentlemen could perhaps attend more closely to what I'm saying, rather than how I'm saying it, he may receive a valuable education in spite of himself!"
