The Nostalgia Critic actually found out what exactly these songs were meant to be. The songs for each of the four kids were homages to the past decades of music. Gloop was the 50's, Violet's was the 60's, Salt's was the 70's, and Mike's was the 80's.

Most importantly, the lyrics are excerpts from the original book.
They could not use the whole songs because they would be too long, but they are all almost entirely verbatim from the book.
The old movie that disappointed Roald Dahl made up those stupid "Oompa Loompa, do-ba-dee-doo," songs that sounded exactly the same.

Roald Dahl is the author in question. I'm fully willing to believe he would have loved the remake, but the fact is he WROTE the SCREENPLAY for the 70s film. The many differences were written into the screenplay BY THE AUTHOR OF THE ORIGINAL BOOK. Every change was made with his full consent.

The important, that we'll ever learn.
The most important thing we'll learn-as far as children are concerned is
Never, never let them near, your television set.
Or better still just don't install the idiotic at all!
    (Aah-Aah!) NeverNever let them!
    (Aah-Aah!) NeverNever let them!
    Aah-Aah! Aah-Aah! Aah-Aah-Aah-Aah!
    [Hair Band solo]
NeverNever let them! NeverNever let them!
It busts the senses in their heads!
    It kills imagination dead!
It clogs & clutters up the mind!
