I pranked a coworker back in the day by recording this and putting the file in his startup folder. He didn’t know what a startup folder was and didn’t know why his computer would always play hamster dance when it booted up.
A feature, not a bug!!!
Epic.
Did you invent rickrolling?
I had the road runner song as my startup file. Back in the day when the computer took two rows of INITs to start up.
We found a burping and farting program that we put in one of our co-workers startup. He had a meeting with the boss first thing that morning and his PC was melting his office down.
My computer class used to coordinate to have every student simultaneously log on to the page and drive our teacher crazy.
your class was on the cutting edge of online owns, amazing
yes!! haha
My dad did that too!
That's freaking hilarious!
Me too and that was like 2011 lmao
I've looked for this original many times! I'm delighted to have found it!!!
man those years pass quickly
You said it spaghetti taco
Don't they though...
ooooh I'm very nostalgic of those days now!🏵
this is literally the first internet meme that ever has existed, oh wow
The Dancing Baby predates it by a few years.
@@patricksturgill9441the dancing baby was wild and they kept trying to shoehorn it into tv shows like they were cosplaying Steve buscemi “hey kids we promise we can stay just as hip and relevant as the internets”
@@imbuffysummerswas all over Ally McBeal episodes
The song is a sample from the 1973 animated Disney movie Robin Hood. It comes from the intro music about a minute and a half into the movie and is sped up to sound high pitched. I'm amazed Disney hasn't sued on copyright grounds.
The song was Whistle Stop by Roger Miller, I believe.
It's fair use
The pages I used to visit always played the full song.
At least most of the hamsters are shown. 😃
Omg I’m so happy someone has this!! This was my childhood 😭❤️
omg after all these year i remember my dad downloading this and i was laughing so hard as a kid at it im 30 now
Ah, in Netscape Navigator, as God intended.
I AM SO OLD
Probably someone mentiones but the music comes from the intro to the Disney movie Robin Hood, just speeded up.
I've been looking for this off and on for years. Finally decided to Google again and it led me here. Thank you!
I was singing this song while cooking and had to look this up to show my boyfriend lol
Unlock a 25-year-old memory : Done
when youre old enough to see all the kids talk about how old they are cause they remember nigahiga and youre like... bisch... hamster dance
FINDING THIS MADE MY DAY!!!!
Excellent
::Mr. Burns Fingers::
THE SONG REPLAYED RIGHT AWAY
Yeah I am not going to like downvote it or anything, but this is absolutely not the authentic experience for that reason, haha. The whole point was you started to get uncomfortable by the third or fourth replay at best and it became an endurance challenge
A little like "It's A Small World" on endless repeat. 🤪
I told someone I had just watched Robin Hood (Disney) and was doing the chicken's part in the song, and they asked why I was singing the hamster dance slowly lol
Ahhhh Netscape Nav. THAT dates me really hard right there lol
I lived in a downstairs apartment and the neighbors upstairs were into dribbling bowling balls (that's what it sounded like anyway). All day and evening it was *Clomp Clomp CLomp*. I finally had enough one day, set my speakers on my stereo on their back pointed up, fed the line out from my computer sound card to the aux input on the stereo, set the volume to max (500watt amp), started hampster dance on endless loop, and left for the day. I got back that night and turned it off. Never heard a peep from those neighbors again.
The come on baby cake part is so hilarious. They say it three times.
We all loved it, lol
Help, it's on mute and I CAN hear the music.
The Hamster Dance is actually a sped up portion of the song whistle stop from Robin Hood
They don't make memes like this anymore!
How is this a meme?
@@timothymiddleton6651 Its was a meme in early 2000s
@@timothymiddleton6651 meme: "2 : an amusing or interesting item (such as a captioned picture or video) or genre of items that is spread widely online especially through social media."
@@tombombadil1351 seems like a reach, shouldn’t a meme carry meaning?
@@timothymiddleton6651 im not even gonna answer, you're just some kinda dead inside human being who doesnt understand enjoying life
FINALLY! I FOUND HAMSTER DANCE 1 !!!!!!!
this is healing
So this is where that song comes from.
I always wonder how many people know the song originated as a remix of Disneys Robin Hood intro which was sung by the great Roy Rodgers and legitimately just hear the song as the hamster dance song. Do they remember you Roy? No. Hamsters don’t have memories.
So here’s the great example they made a video where they speed up the audio for the Cupid Shuffle and called it dancing hamsters Cupid Shuffle, guts, a crazy funny parody in the parody Hampton sings. They say I’m a rapper which is a reference to the original music video.
It says 1997 but claim 1998?
Yes! I remember scrolling through that hamster dance singing that dee da dee da dee da do do..... it used to be so satisfying lmao.
Only thing is, how in the world did I even know this website existed???? Does anyone remember how they came across it to begin with?
Just got sent around Facebook obviously... oh wait... the 90s you say? No idea then
Maybe it was bored.com ?
Email chains from my experience.
Someone else in computer classes.
I think I heard about it through IRC maybe?
In one episode of Family Guy Peter Griffin makes The Hamster Dance the national anthem
Ahhhh nostalgia
For an example, many of the songs parody many different songs like the sped up version of thank God I’m a country boy is a spinoff of John Denver. Thank God I’m a country boy but slowed down.
Dibidi ba didi dou dou
Di ba didi dou
Didi didldildidldidl houdihoudi dey dou
Many hamster, dance references in cartoons
Number one Family Guy in episode The Hamster Dance Chris Griffin does a pay mod to The Hamster Dance song
Number two Family Guy again
In the episode, thank God I’m a country boy. Peter Griffin makes The Hamster Dance their national anthem.
nice

Hamster dance tourette syndome got me here.
Why did this give me frission?
the original!!!
do you have the Fishdance? was around the same time
I don't know it. Which Fishdance do you mean?
Was it like cat-mermaid hybrids singing "fish heads, fish heads, eat them up YUMM"?
@@WebDesignMuseum ok so bare with me here because it's gonna soud ridicilous. It had a bunch of gifs, similar like the hamsterdance, but fish-themed. and the song went like "fishheads, fishheads lalalala fishheads. Fishheads fihsheads eat them up Yum" and it repeated.
@@lauraliendo6373 not sure about the catmermaids but those are definitely the words! (i think)
