    Based on the accounts of Marines in World War II, this 10-part miniseries follows the intertwined journeys of three U.S. Marines in the Pacific Theater -- Pfcs. Robert Leckie and Eugene B. Sledge and Sgt. John Basilone -- from their first battle against Japan on Guadalcanal, across the sands of Iwo Jima and the horror of Okinawa, to their ultimately triumphant return after V-J Day.

    I think this kind of scenes is what makes this show more difficult to watch than BoB - that show was, despite everything, a feel good, almost idealised view of war.
    But there's nothing sanitised about this.

      PTO was a bloody mess and hell on lagunas, with no quarters given, fighting deep in the jungle, against mosquitos, tropical heat, mud, malaria, and dead-bent Japs on top of that, fighting to the very last soldier. It lasted 3.5 years instead of 1 year on foot in urbanised western and central Europe. I am not diminishing horrors from Europe, but the PTO was so much bigger, 3mln enlisted in the Navy alone, 125 carriers...

      @stuff9680 Před rokem +39

      In BoB Easy company was mostly in the rear since they were paratroopers and they were only in Europe in 1944 and 1945. The Pacific you see the perspective of Marines who fought nearly the whole war and who were on the front lines against a determined enemy

    • @kyleross8817
      @kyleross8817 Před rokem +33

      BoB has executing of prisoners, alcoholism, an entire episode on PTSD from killing a teenager+another from being a medic, non-judicial killings, bullying of raw recruits, etc. You're right that the Pacific is a harder watch, but BoB doesn't shy away from the rough stuff, either.

      @@kyleross8817 No but it plays a heavier role on character development and comradery than this show does. Leckie for example doesn't really have much of an arc at all, and he's relatively alone for most of the time even when in company.

      I think when the full bird caught wind of it he put it under his personal care so it wouldn’t be "lost" and he was actually a good guy so didn’t "lose" it himself. If you read the book you’ll also find out Lucky hated officers something special.
