Divine Soul Sorcerer is one of my favorite classes! I love the idea of a Zariel tiefling trying to redeem the actions of their ancestors and maybe become an aasimar themselves someday.
Ooh, a devil/angel all wrapped in one. Sign me up!
This is gold
Dude I had a similar idea! That's so dope!
I have an Aasimar Divine Soul in a backup pocket. Not set on his backstory, though I’ll be taking either Urchin or Entertainer Background. I plan to play them up as a mage who lets loose golden animals with Spirit Guardians, and takes care of children abandoned to the streets that either ran from orphanages or churches and cults. He’s a pretty interesting morally grey character who isn’t afraid to cause chaos and steal as long as he can care for these kids.
Dude your channel is a lifesaver. You've allowed me to make so many unique characters that always make my friends curious as to what I'll roll up next
DUDE! That's what I'm talking about! Keep 'em guessing!
I have an Air Genasi divine soul sorcerer/tempest cleric made for a Theros campaign! They were part of a church on the coast of Meletis that worshipped Keranos and Thassa as a child. At 18 they had to survive a great storm to be blessed by the god and named a high priest. They worship Keranos and Thassa, and their magic looks like them creating and controlling the weather around them. Oh and their spellcasting focus is a lightning rod!⚡️
As a variant of the Fallen Angel, you could potentially be a new deity brought to life by the madness of the Kuo-Toa. You have a passing resemblance to the cleric or greater deity that inspired your creation, but you are fundamentally different. This works best with reflavoring a race, as flavor-wise you should look like some kind of abomination only the Kuo-Toa could think up.
Maybe Blibdoolpoolp feels threatened by your existence, wanting to wipe you out. Maybe she feels relieved by your existence, thinking of you as a sign that she is no longer alone in her fight to protect the Kuo-Toa. Most likely, she’s somewhere between, especially if you very recently came into being.
As a story hook, you may be on a quest to gain followers of non-Kuo-Toa races, not only to avoid stepping on your big sister’s toes, but also to give your people more respect in the larger community. Maybe you need to prove your divinity, working alongside a party to prove your willingness to protect. Only when you reach Level 20 and accomplish a great deed may you finally ascend to true divinity, leading this character to possibly become an NPC in any future games taking place in the same world. Imagine playing one campaign as a fledgling god, and then playing the next campaign as a Cleric or Paladin of that god!
Ooh, someone has been watching my recent live streams! 😉
I may have to take this idea!
I played a Divine Soul about a year ago and loved it! He was a Kalashtar with an inability to speak and his power was derived from his other senses being made stronger from the loss of his voice. Very interesting role play when you can only project your voice into your party’s minds lol
One thing I would give to Divine Souls Sorcerers is that they can choose a Cleric Domain depending on what Deity has given them their blessing. Doing so gives you access to the spells in that Domain as your Bloodline Spells.
That's a popular one. I agree!
Ooh! This is one of the subclasses I've had a tough time trying to reflavor, so this video is going to help immensely
Lol hope I did it justice!
@@TheClericCorner I love the idea of a Swarmkeeper-esque Sorcerer surrounded by healing bugs! That's really cool, and I might use that one
Edit: Reflavoring an Aasimar's Radiant Consumption to be a minor form of Spirit Guardians, both of which take the form of holy fireflies. Definitely using this one now
Mannnn I LOVE your ideas! So unique!!!
Thank you!! I'm glad so many like this series!
There just so many ideas for this subclass i can't even begin to explain
I have a Divine Soul Sorcerer stylized like a Stand User. The source of his Divine Power is an angel sent by his deity, which acts as his Stand, and Spiritual Weapon and Spirit Guardians are flavored as said angel punching the crap out of said Sorcerer's enemies. Helps that Stand Users are basically Sorcerers, themselves, since their Stands are extensions of themselves. Granted, the idea behind my Sorcerer sounds more like a Warlock in a sense, but already had a Warlock, and Spiritual Weapon and Spirit Guardians are appropriate spells to flavor into a typical JoJos-esque ora ora ora.
I played a paladin/sorcerer multiclass.
Took at the start two levels of paladin to get the heavy armor proficeny, and that jucy smite.
Then divine soul sorcerer from that point. Take Guiding bolt, Healing word, Spiritual Weapon, and Spirit guaridans whenever possible.
Take twinned spell and quickened spell.
At level 6 (4 sorcerer, you need to chose if you want a +2 to charsima or to take the metamagic adept feat to gain back the two sorcery points you lost from multiclassing) if you take metamagic adept I recommend probably careful, transmuted, or subtle spell.
This build is mostly ment to play as a spell caster, but with insanily high AC (21 - full plate, shiled, defense fighting style). In addition you can smite - and you gain mostly caster progression of spell slots, so you can smite a lot more than the average paladin. So if you find yourself in a sticky situation you can use that.
I chose protector assimar bc it most fitted for roleplay - and mechanically the flight can help you get to an enemy if you want to smite that turn.
Some cool combos:
Quickened guding bolt from range, then go to the creature you attacked and attack melee with advantage bc guding bolt. Allowing you to land smites more easily even if you don't bump your stength. This does insane amount of damage in a turn. Especially considering you can get more high level smites in with the casrer porgression of the sorcerer
Twinned Guiding Bolt:
Insane value for 1 sorcery point and 1 1st level spell slot
Twinned Healing Word:
For a bonus action, sorcery point, and first level slot. Heal two downed allies. And you can still smite at the same turn.
Spirit gurdians, and smite each turn. You are a cast that enemies can't get near to without losing HP and you 21 AC if you got a shield and plate armor with the desense fighting style. You are not losing that concentration check easily.
Sooooo good thanks
Great video…brought me not only inspiration but also tons of idea for my divine soul sorc.
I was thinking that my divine soul sorc is similar to the mixture of both shadow and draconic bloodline. At least the ancestors and the thematic look. My divine sorc was born from the dark/shadow dragon. Instead of animate the dead, it will be shadow demon/fiend. Kinda like shadow kunoichi/warrior. On the 14th level, my wings are made of black dragon with a little bit of shadowy auras around it. Of course, my form will be hybrid, half dragon and demon.
The motivator bit made me think of undertale and the whole "you're filled with determination" thing
I'll have to check that out!
These ideas inspired me to use this subclass as an Alchemist. Explosives and curatives are all available with a thrown flask.
Divine soul halfling with the lucky feat Bad rolls? What are those?
My context for this demon was that a unlucky gambler beat the god of fortne in a game of black jack. So now it's forced to help him
Brilliant 🙌
Liked the video as soon as you mentioned All Dogs Go to Heaven at the start.
Score!!
Character I made for an upcoming Dragon Heist campaign is a bastard half-elf son of a elf nobleman who was chosen by the god of elves Corellon to do his will and is now being considered for the throne of the elven kingdom of Evermeet if he can prove himself. Having been treated like garbage all his life, suddenly being literally chosen by god to be king has gotten to his head a little and now he's INSUFFERABLE.
I had an idea for a divine soul sorcerer that I think would be really good too:
A human woman falls in love with another "human" that later on is found out to be a devil, which enslaves her, and then she gets pregnant and prays for pelor to save her child from that devil, and then, the child is born as a tiefling divine soul sorcerer, which saves its mother and then works as a bounty hunter, hunting down evil doers and devils
The nanotech is essentially a character I am playing now, except I used Swarmkeeper ranger. In my story my guy was almost burnt away and the bugs are constantly healing him, but he has the ability to detach them and they can either heal or hurt, depending on spell of ability used
I wish I was able to continue playing my Fighter/DSS mc boy. My first character was a Fighter, who I learned in the 4th session was the son of a Lawful Evil deity, who gave his birth parents the ability to have children, as they were lacking in heirs. So after level 6 I multiclassed him and I had so much fun playing what was essentially a growing demigod, working to replace his God-Mother, due to a misunderstanding of what she had told him. I made a lot of mistakes with the character and if I ever get a chance of a do-over, a 2.0 version of that campaign, I will take it!
That said, an idea I had for a DSS that was pure DSS, or a later multiclass, was "The Awakened One", a Sorcerer, who reached a type of enlightenment that unlocked the right synapses in their mind to be a DSS! Their touch-based spells becoming special martial arts moves that deal magical damage of their specific kind with that extra oomph! Their defensive spells being their spoken word to protect those, who would protect them in turn. Etc~!
I made Sun Wukong the Monkey King as a Divine Soul 9/Hexblade 3/Echo Knight 8. Problem is one of his favorite spells is Conjure Volley, so if I ever play a level 20 one-shot and get to use him, I'll have to persuade the DM to add that to my spell list.
I made a divine soul sorcerer that uses tabaxi for stats. They were a cat that lived at an abandoned shrine and for chasing away rodents the cat found favor and now is a blessed cat mage.
I'd love to see how many spins you could put on something that feels very specific, like the Wildfire Druid.
Can't wait for that one!!
My Divine Soul Sorcerer is a Street Fighter style martial artist built off of a Fallen Aasimar Evil Divine Soul Sorcerer with a single level dip into Barbarian to net Unarmored Defense. He “punches” via Inflict Wounds, and uses Necritic Shroud as a “power up”. He’s a naked tank that “hits” really hard and is hard to hit due to Con+Dex+Shield spell.
Wow, fantastic flavor!! One I'm sure looks great in-play!
@@TheClericCorner
Great? Maybe not so much, deals mid range damage while being a meleeist with d6 hit die
Fun? So fun! Having the best time playing this guy.
Okay. For my divine soul Sorcerer, I went with a pure blooded drow Who's bloodline links all the way back to the just God himself.
And I had her entire house destroyed by followers of lolth
Woo divine soul!
Woohoo!
Ausmudeus teifling devine soul sorcerer
...
Anybody here watch "Little Nicky"
So for an idea of what subclasses u can do next dragon sorcerer. And I even have an idea. Instead of of getting power from a dragon bloodline they could be a mystic cambion the child of normally a virgin woman and a demon. And the demon side gives them magic. U could replace the scales giving u the increased armor class to your your demonic heritage gives u increases strength cause I'm pretty sure that is something that cambions actually have. Also yes this is a character that I have created
As an expansion on the "Nanotech," I like the idea of someone who's been touched by the raw energy of the positive (or maybe even negative?) plane(s) but didn't get very much magic, but did gain a bunch of tiny living motes of light that they can command that go around doing things, like a moth to a lightbulb - kind of like a bunch of tiny ember elementals, but made of positive energy instead of fire. And you can just kinda direct them in various ways to make them do different things.
Oooh. Or maybe you were touched by fire, and have a ton of tiny ember elementals that like to burn things (cast prestidigitation and fire bolt a lot to cause small fires to represent this?) and sear your allies' wounds closedwhere you go, or better yet, just talk to your DM about fires being set alight by these ember elementals at random times. And they sear your allies' wounds closed. Or take a more nature-based route with the ember elementals and just say that you can make some of the ember elementals sacrifice themselves to keep the fires of life lit in your allies' bodies and have them heal through that. Maybe as you grow in power, your ember elementals grow, too, and
Maybe combine the two ideas. Fire can be a source of light, dangerous light at that - so maybe you have radiant ember elementals following you around. A sort of "mix" between beings of pure radiant energy and fire elementals.
Absolutely love that! Perfect with a dancing lights!
@@TheClericCorner Was thinking that myself!
First of all, love your videos. Quick question. If you are planning on multi-classing.. would you take a Warlock level first to tell your story on how and why you got your powers then multiclass into other classes ( like ranger or fighter)?
Going from Fighter or Ranger to Warlock in the midst of the campaign would be up to the Dm. Assuming you wouldn't want to just say. Oh.. level 6. I am going warlock.
A fighter to Rogue is not really hard to explain. Just your thoughts on how you might go about it
Hot take: doesn't matter :)
But you could do anything from latent ability, to deal finally closing out, or your fighting capabilities just being part of your pact. Think outside of class narrative boundaries :)
Hope that helps
@@TheClericCorner thank you
What about a healer that heal by basically scaring their allies into working through pain thereby making them more resilient.
