    I Cut about half of this stuff out with my Numark TTUSB. I’ve gotten excellent results doing this, and using Audacity as well. The only problem, and it’s one that popped up when I changed the headshell, is in the cartridge pre-attached to the headshell. I’m only getting sound from the left channel. (It’s the Audio Technica AT-VM95C/H, by the way.)

    Thanks for explaining how to hook it all up and what you need! Most of the other tutorials i watched didn't show the basic configuration so thanks a mil :) 👍🏻

    Very nice job explaining this. Looking forward to trying it out and experimenting with it. Thanks for making it seem less daunting to set it up.

    I also have a mac and I am looking for a way to use software to emulate a phono preamp. I don't have a phono stage in my setup and I was hoping to plug my turntable directly in to the line in of my mac then use a software pluging for the capture software that would equalize the audio as it comes in the same way a phono preamp would. That means passing it through an RIAA curve equalizer which would increase the low frequency gain dramatically to flatten the response against the high frequency. Have you ever seen software that does this?

      I may have seen software out there but it wasn’t free. I would do a deep search but you are going to compromise quality of sound because computer are noisy and phono signals are weak.

      @@Studio3BRocksThanks. I guess I will buy a Phono Preamp.

    So here's a question: Would I be able to do this using a turntable connected to a mixer, and the mixer connected to the audio interface? Been watching several videos and this is the first one that mentions the phono preamp; are you using this because you are recording using a record player and not an actual turntable? Furthermore, I don't have the option to switch to "line" on my interface (I have this one www.guitarcenter.com/Presonus/AudioBox-USB-96K-25th-Anniversary-Edition-Audio-Interface-Black-1500000328631.gc?source=4WWRWXGL&gclid=Cj0KCQjw8IaGBhCHARIsAGIRRYr9-8cQCywVPLey-Ra0fG7132YZvsuKVwz2hPc4zk-qug5J1Bq759EaAjTEEALw_wcB); I only have "mic" and "instrument"; would that matter a whole lot? Let me know if you have the chance to talk more in-depth, sorry for the long comment.

      Mic vs instrument only affects the gain level. I would set it to whichever allows proper gain (no clipping!). You will need a phono preamp since you have no line out from your turntable. Turntable and record player are interchangable terms. Same thing. So for you i would go [Turntable -> Phono Preamp -> Mixer -> Audio Interface]. Not sure why you need the mixer unless you plan to EQ or DJ. For simple archival you ideally should not process the sound too much since the recording is already a finished product.

    I find the easiest way to digitize LPs is to use a Tascam CD recorder to record the LP to a wav file then rip the CD using jRiver (or whatever you prefer).

    • @Studio3BRocks
      @Studio3BRocks  Před 3 lety

      That is certainly easier. What is the bitrate available using this method?

    You could also just use audacity to make it easier

      Ok cool. I never got too much into audacity but I know it’s a good simple and free solution. Go for it.
