Well in this episode they just said youtube is limited to 12 hour videos.
The thing about Amtrak passenger trains in the US is that, legally, passenger trains have the right of way. The problem is that companies have extended freight cars to such ridiculous lengths that they no longer physically fit onto the sidings that they are supposed to pull on to in order to allow passenger trains to pass. Instead of forcing private companies to shorten their trains or combine sidings so that their trains can fit onto them, the US government just decided that private freight companies can just functionally ignore the law that was specifically passed to make passenger travel by rail more convenient.
The freight companies also own the rails and Amtrak just leases/rents/has permission to use them
Transporting goods quickly and cheaply is far more important that transporting humans.
At around 40 minutes, they talk about sending poo back to the places that include a return to sender envelope. While no, don't send actual poo back.. but if you use those envelopes to return their stuff to say you aren't interested, sooner or later you won't get that anymore..since they don't get charged for them until you actually send them back. My Mom would add maybe like a candy wrapper or some other junk mail from a company that didn't include envelopes.. It took a while, but she says she stopped getting as much junk mail.
For like 90% of the podcast I thought Barbara had an undercut, and I was like, oh that looks so cool!

It was really nice to know that the RT community is still there. It’s tough seeing the poor views on CZcams but knowing they probably get the equivalent on their site and app is nice to know.
In the month of August, the TOTAL number of visitors was 2 million, they used to get those kinds of numbers on individual videos back in the day. The rt community has for the most part left.

You can absolutely find gold in abandoned gold mines. Not tons, but its there. BUT its dangerous af. Unmaintained support structures, 100 ft vertical drops in pitch black darkness, and i wouldnt be surprised at the occasional misplaced explosives

Sense of touch is very sensitive and fabrics are a testament to that I feel. Also fun trivia: Most people can look at any object and know exactly what it would feel like to LICK it. Try looking around your room and imagine licking things!
See now the crisis I have is I'm not sure if I'm just imagining what it would be like to lick the things around me or if I'm just remembering what it's like to lick all this stuff from experience as a small child

Kinda relevant but due to living by the sea for an extended period, I've developed the ability to smell rain/storms with a high degree of accuracy. They smell exceptionally clean and almost like ozone
It's inherently clean and pure smelling. Especially when you are used to industrial smells.

I went to the Van Gough thing a while ago, I enjoyed it mainly because it told you his life story, and I find him a tragic but interesting man and I like his art. I didn't feel like I was being told what the meanings of the paintings were, but more like it was providing the context of his actual life experiences at the time that he painted it. But I guess that's not for everyone, fair enough.

Australian here. We have this thing called 'No Junk Mail' and if you put that on your mail box they legally can't give you any flier, catalogs, etc.
The USPS doesn't receive federal funding at all so if we did that in the US, a lot of companies would stop spending money on ads in the mail and the USPS would lose a ton of money

true most things aren't recycled but that is mostly plastics. Paper items are normally recycled and up to 85% of cellulose insulation is recycled paper. please sort your paper/cardboard and waste mail properly. thx from insulators

I want to talk about trains, I love trains. Interesting fact; rack railways allow trains to travel up steeper inclines than what Gus referred to such as those used in Wales and Tasmania. There are other types that use pulley systems too such as the the one used in Hong Kong (I can’t recall the name at this moment). Trains are not just an efficient way of moving people but large quantities or resources too such as grain, oil and ore. That’s the direction most railways are going in this day and age; bulk haulage.

A stoners input on Delta-8s quasi-legality:
Delta-8 THC is federally legal, and it is not the type of THC most people ask for, as it is not as enjoyable to most people. It is chemically different from Delta-9 THC only in weight. As in, 1 Delta-8 molecule is lighter than a Delta-9 molecule, but is the same chemical and structure. This means the high is "lighter" because the endocannabinoid system processes the lighter molecule faster and is less weighed down by it. [Correct me if I'm wrong on the last bit.]
Some states actually have legal Delta-9 THC (as in, recreational cannabis,) but not Delta-8 THC. And some states have none. The federal backing of the legality stops at the state level if the state decides.
Why the feds decided Delta-8 was okay, or shouldn't be scheduled? I have no clue. But it's weird being able to buy Delta-9 but not Delta-8.

Would have been one thing if it was, like they said, a long time into it and they needed to get back to filming other things, but having it just end before the weekend it started on in that way felt weird.
