Bought this on vinyl today and really liked it. It has more of a Think Tank vibe (which I LOVED). It was a busy day today, so I only got one listen, but I think I will like it even more on repeated plays. I feel there is a lot here to take in and one listen is not gonna do it. But that one listen made me really happy today. :)

I've swam in that pool numerous times. Salt water. Boak! Swimmer is Ian Gault who was in a bad car crash and swimming was part of his recovery. He was told he would never walk again.

I thought it was a refreshing change of pace for blur it has elements of thier older work but its definitely more melancholic in sound definitely a great album that i would recommend for fans of blurs early work but want something different

I have to say. I was a bit disappointed with album at first, just because like you said in your video its a bit slow. But when you take into account its an album about loss, and that they are a mature band now, it helps with the inital shock. But after repeated listening I actually love this album now for what it is. Avalon is my personal favourite. It would probably be their apple venus

Damon grew up in an Upper-Middle class family…
The rest of the members are working-class though.

@@whyismylifeweird4251 nobody went to Eaton….his father went to a Grammar school and went to University in Nottingham….so not posh even as the son of an architect….yes middle class possibly but he’s an artist primarily and worked for himself….plenty of those people live in squats and make no money their entire lives…..He didn’t come from nothing but he certainly worked for a living….genuinely posh people don’t (or at least don’t have to).

My CD copy arrived a day early. I’ve given it a couple of listens and I think it’s just ok.
I accept that bands like this have matured over time and it’s not the 90s anymore, so I wasn’t expecting Parklife - but other than The Narcissist, nothing really grabs me on the album.
Blur to me have always been a singles band and The Best Of Blur is all anyone really needs regarding Blur’s back catalogue IMO and I’ve got a few Blur albums. Oasis & Noel have always been and still are in a different league to me and it’s worth seeking out their entire back catalogues.
It’s true you can like both which I do, but they are on completely different levels to me.

Agreed, Oasis and the Gallaghers Solo are stronger musically overall. I wish there was some more variety on the album but its still good. Thanks for watching!

I couldn't disagree more. It sounds like you're really only into music/songs that could be released as singles. That's completely fine if that's your thing. Blur have such a diverse and creative sound, whereas Oasis is much of the same with nothing really pushing the limits of their creativity. The same goes for Noel's solo music, it's just a continuation of Oasis. Damon, on the other hand, went off and created one of the most unique and awe-inspiring musical projects in recent history. You really can't compare the musical talents of Blur and Oasis. Oasis do the simple things very well and stick to their formula but Blur effortlessly switch between moods, tempos and concepts. Blur's back catalogue is a lesson in a band pushing their musical boundaries, whereas Oasis' back catalogue sounds like their "front catalogue" but just not as good. I've been obsessed with both bands throughout my life, but I always keep coming back to Blur. Oasis is good for singing in the car but doesn't provoke nearly the same deep reaction as Blur.

@andrerenee4434 I'm definitely not as familiar with Blur's albums, so I don't have much experience beyond their singles. I dig the low key melancholy vibe of the album, and I love The Narcisst

couldn't agree more. Blur have always been light years ahead of oasis regarding musicianship.

@@andrerenee4434 that’s a very generalised sweeping assumption to make about someone else’s taste in music from one CZcams comment.
My musical taste is very eclectic, I have albums and singles across various formats from various decades and many artists/genres. I’m a music lover and collector, but music is very subjective and down to personal taste.
I can listen to many albums from start to finish without skipping a track - so no I’m not just a hits lover. However IMO that’s all Blur amount to, a band who could knock out some decent singles with not much else on the albums other than filler (in my opinion).
I 100% respectfully disagree with your comments about Oasis and Noel, but that’s your opinion and I don’t feel any need to correct you on it. You do you and I’ll do me.

It's no rock album, and Blur are not a rock band. The casual fan thinks they are from the Song 2 track which was not a typical Blur track. This album though is a masterpiece IMO, showcasing Blur at their best!
