Good to know super glue is that effective on rubber; always appreciate your videos, Toy Polloi, your passion inspires me!
Definitely a repair I need to get around to sometime.
Thank you for the extra video Dave🙂
Huh. I just assumed I shouldn't super glue that. Guess I'll be fixing my Whiplash in a moment. Thanks!
edit: Apparently mine's not torn. I'm so used to seeing them that way that I just assumed mine would be too!
So easy it fixed itself
That's also going to be a great tip for building models, as well.
Excellent video!
I've used super glue over the years and I never thought to use that simple little tool. Now I know what I need to buy. Great video as always!!!
I have used toothpicks when building model kits
@@richardromanyshyn608 that's what I was doing as well. Not anymore after seeing this!!!
You can get them with any basic set of sculpting tools (or sometimes by itself) at Hobby Lobby and similar places
They are very useful. You can find all the tools I use here: www.toypolloi.com/index.php/tool-shop
Great to see a quick video with a specific fix. Well done!
I'm gonna fix mine this weekend now! Thank you Toy Polli :)
Short, simple and sweet!
Hi another handy repair 👍🏻
Nice! I have actually wondered about fixing the tail on Whiplash. Like you said, it’s such a common problem. Thank you for the info, Dave!👍
Glad it was helpful!
Clever repair and nice video!
Great figure. Had him in 1984. I used to whip his tail round knocking other figures over (like the Alien). Also had Leech Man (?) with the suction cup for a mouth.
Going to have to try this! Thanks for sharing!
Here’s an idea I’ve bin to the podcast garden plots with Skeletor . And in that podcast whiplash’s two favorite things are heavy metal music and cooking . Maybe you could make whip lash a guitar and chiefs hat . Just a thought . And give on of your skeletors gardener gear and weapons .
Very handy tip on that tool Dave, I use super glue a lot but find the water based one runs everywhere so I get gel based, this will help 👍
They both have there uses. You have much more control with the gel stuff.
I did one of these years ago, where the rip went almost half way and made a feature of it by reinforcing it from behind with thin rubber sheet and using a thicker rubber cement so it looked like a "Scar", quite a nice effect that I'm 100% certain I could never pull off again!
Great and very useful video! Thank you!
Awesome job
Thank you for the vid .
Wonderfully done 👍 If I wanted to go a little further, would you recommend also a green color that blends with his tail and brushing lightly where the rip was as well?
thanks, some fix reviews I use sometimes pieces of Lego and trim it, or when I fix a motu hordak , I fix the legs different I cut a hair tie make a knot , use a pair of tweezers then I wrapped around it tie it nice and tight, anyway thank you for these toy repair videos 🙂🙂🙂
Not just any cheap superglue, get the one that has some flexibility.
Good fix. I am into RC Trucks and there are tire glued which are CA (super glue) but designed to work on soft rubber. I’m guessing this stuff might be good for the tail too. It secures while remaining somewhat flexible.
superglue is also very useful to stiffen joints to star wars beaters. put legs in "sit" position, add glue 45 degrees from where leg is pointing, wipe off excess glue and keep moving the leg until hardened. repeat if not stiff enough first try.
I would not recommend that. PTFE tape is far safer and less likely to cause serious issues. Cheers
I have that I will repair this
Before you glue something like that use tape on one and another side of the broken part :) in that way you will not glue anything else. After you are done just remove tape and all will be nice and clean :)
I just got an amazing almost perfect vintage Kenner C-3PO. But…the legs don’t move. The arms and head are pretty tight in the good way. I’m not not sure if the legs were glued for some reason or if the vac metal fused somehow over the past 35 years. You know the plastic type used on vac’d plastic, it feels really light and possibly brittle. I don’t want to mess with it and break it. I don’t see any glue residue outside the joint. The vac metal is literally about perfect. There is one tiny 1mm speck on the shin that looks off. It’s beautiful, but would like to display him in my speeder w Luke.
Have you tried silicone based glue for soft rubbers like that?
Hey Dave I did it
Good tip Dave I hope you clean that Bal stylus before 5he Glue cures
I let it dry and just pick it off later. I've got it a right mess before trying to wipe it off and gluing things to it 🤣
I have a question about leg bands. That inside piece in the waist the that the leg band stays behind is it needed if it breaks off when putting a band in?? I notice only taiwan figures have that longer plastic piece inside the waist that holds the band back.. because I broke mine off on a nice man e faces figure but he stands ok still just curious what the point of it was for and if it's really needed or not as I notice Malaysia and Mexico/USA ones do not have it anyways. I figured you could help put my mind at ease about it and if it's a necessary piece or not, etc..
Super Glue is NOT a good idea for rubber. It will react and harden the rubber ultimately causing more damage. There is a specific glue used for rubber repair. It's more prevalent at sporting goods or outdoor stores. Additionally, you can use some types of shoe repair glue. I just don't think that you are ultimately going to like what cyanoacrylate is going to do to that rubber.
Simples!
i had high hopes for the plastic weld stuff and tried to reattach the plastic thing that holds the spool of thread on top of my girlfriend’s sewing machine but the stuff may as well have been water
It only works with certain types of plastic. You soon learn what it is good for.
Dave, thanks for the quick fix. Have you ever tried your plastic weld (or some such) on those rubbery parts? Whiplash sadly always rips where the tail is connected to the Whiplash/Buzz-Off torso.
Thanks. Plastic weld only works with certain types of plastic, mainly styrene based. It has no effect on rubber. Cheers
@@toypolloi Thank you, Dave! Always a pleasure watching your videos. Cheers!
Do you think that the spring inside this figure is beefier than in all the others?
No. It feels the same as all the others to me.
🤯
really ? not a rubber inner tude support underneath??
Simple enough. Son wants me to reattach a Leech arm. Probably can't be done? Rubber cement was a joke, but cleaned back off easy enough. Ideas?
Don’t vintage MOTU arms pop on and off?
If it's the peg that has snapped off, use plastic weld. Cheers
@@toypolloi Leech has rubber arms and are the "male" end of the connection. Hole is in the body. Imagine feeding a rubber washer through a hole and when it flattens inside, it is what holds the arm on. I have the old torn piece out. Probably just need another arm or use him for parts. Suction action works though
If you have the missing piece you can glue it back, and the put a long thin screw in to add some strength. Then boil and pop it back into the body. It will be strong enough for display, but maybe not safe for your son to play with. Cheers
