Questions about hamsters surviving in outer space result in stories about dolphins sleeping with one eye open because they owe huge sums of money to the beluga whale mafia. Haha neither- ENFP. My way of connecting with others is sharing my ideas or like asking them hypothetical questions to get a conversation going and things that I find super interesting, also humour is 100% the way I connect. I had a sleepover with my INTP friend yesterday and we spent like 90% of the time talking about hypotheticals or ideas and analysis of things. The other 10% was ranting (we went from deep to what makes us angry between like 4am and 5. Then at 6 it was back to like hypotheticals, or like analysing structures. Like we spent half an hour analysing the social hierarchy of high school and how even after you leave in any social setting you have the same groups, and like what might make someone popular, and just like thinking about why that was. Super interesting. I have two INTP friends and we can just analyse, debate and discuss hypothetical scenarios and ideas for hours and hours (though fine tend to be a bit more flavourful than theirs) And we bounce off each other with jokes and stuff. My friendship group In general is just great for that (2x INTP, Me-ENFP, ISTJ and an INFJ) though the ISTJ gets tired with our hypotheticals after a bit.

      @@shellyballard8316 haha yes. Some people say I give way too much detail sometimes. And that’s normally sensors who also tend to give so much detail when talking about their day or something. Like my ISTJ mum who tells me I’m just “rambling” or “talking rubbish” when I’m exploring ideas sometimes (though tbf I can imagine some of my ideas appear that way cause they can be out there even though to me they seem exciting) and give too much detail or I’m “overanalysing it”. But yet if someone is telling a story or she’s talking about her day she will explain every detail in what I imagine to her is an organised way that is normally chronological and thought out. I find the communication style differences very interesting. My ENTP dad on the other hand is very much like me 😂

    Another thing about the INTPs and ENTPs is that it's totally okay to compete with us in those intellectual games. Like, if you disagree (or wanna play Devil's Advocate) and we get into a friendly argument, that's fun. Let's butt heads and get to know each other better!

    • @freregregoire2685
      @freregregoire2685 Před 2 lety +112

      Yeah, for ENTPs it seems like often they even want you to disagree with them...
      Us INTPs usually want to look at things from several different points of views to really understand them, and bounce ideas to see how they develop, and that's not gonna happen if you are agreeing about everything I say from the get go (even when I'm right).

    • @ShaleNinja
      @ShaleNinja Před 2 lety +52

      YES. Especially once older and a little softer. A lot of fun and even more respect is gained from someone introducing a new perspective, or from a more educated/experienced position. As an INTP my first thought is "oh lawd, I'm going to get smoked" followed by "but I win, because I exit with more knowledge" and usually have a new person that I deeply respect for it. Challenge me, I enjoy it!
      One of the best parts of the challenge/compete is being forced to analyse a position. Why do I hold this position? Are there gaps in the scaffolding of my understanding? Have I had this wrong the whole time? Or is the exercise going to introduce someone else to a more structured and diverse understanding of the thing?
      Realising the what and how of an ENTP has been incredibly invaluable for rounding out this trait. Y'all just wanna tackle things from every angle for the sheer intellectual pleasure, and it feels like a fantastic opportunity to join in the fun and rev the engines for once instead of "Have you tried turning it off and back on again..."

    • @einavherman7459
      @einavherman7459 Před 2 lety +50

      Yes exactly! As an ENTP I love to hear each others point of views since it helps me understand other people's prespectives
      Contrary to what many think, ENTP do not seek arguements for the sake of it, we do not wish for you to disagree with anything we say (but nor otherwise as well, we only want your honest opinion).
      It's just that we enjoy exploring the subject from several opinions, and try to encorage you to do so as well.
      Since usually there are no right or wrong opinions I see the talk about them as a debate rather than an arguement.
      But when someone disagree with a fact or says something to others with no experience in the subject I'll start oppose him/her right away.
      It's crazy how many people don't acknowledge you need to learn about something before you can talk about it.

      It's not manipulation as the youtuber labels it. It's just fitting in with people around, to keep that social connection with them, afloat. There is no manipulation of others and no manipulation of oneself, only just a small change in feelings, to make others feel more comfortable. You very well-know and feel what you actually feel and when you are able to express it as well to others, but many people I have seen MANY times, were faking their expressions as well. Doesn't mean you have to be an INFJ to fake emotions. The when part is important to infj,that is not discussed here, instead it is labelled as manipulation instead, because that's how he has viewed it, doesn't mean that is the truth and reality with many other different types of infjs who are certainly different from him.

  • @mjinba07
    @mjinba07 Před rokem +161

    As an INFJ, I totally agree that I'm reading others and "going along" in order to connect. It's automatic. But it tends to make the other person think I feel the same way they do when in fact I'm just being polite and accommodating. Most people don't ask how I feel about things. Even when they do ask, I can't always tell them right away and then we have to see if they've got the tiny bit of patience it takes to listen. Most don't! Since the other person has no idea what I really think, I eventually start to feel lonely in the relationship. And others tend to develop the expectation that I'll go along, so when it comes to something important and I take a stand, they're blindsided.
    Yeah, it's not a great way to connect, it's just a shallow way to get along. Real connections take a long time to develop and are pretty exclusive.

      Absolutely and us INFJs hate shallow, small talk.
      I actually recently told an ex that I can see the other side of an issue without agreeing with it. His eyes bugged out thinking of all the times I just allowed him to talk... He never actually knew me. Big surprise why we are not together anymore.
      I use to get upset all the time and think that ppl were so rude for not asking me questions in reciprocation. Turns out most people are just really self-involved but aren't heartless (except a few like my ex). So, now I'm just quiet and then say something like "oh, you want me respond to you? I thought you were talking *at* me". Just to remind them I'm a person and not a device or their therapist.
      Another things I like to do is ask someone if they have enough emotional energy before I unload something heavy to them (whether about them or not). I make it a point to point out what I'm asking and sometimes they will reciprocate asking me the same if they get it. It's nice to have the option to say "no thank you. Another time will be best".

      @D H I think for the most part I've just accepted this dilemma as one of my quirks. Honesty is "reserved" for long term friends. And I only put quotation marks on that because it isn't intentional, it's just the way I naturally am. Bottom line, in any social situation, however uncomfortable it may turn out to be, I've always got me as a friend and that's pretty good. Yeah, it's lonely sometimes, but never empty.

I know that I’m supposed to laugh at their joke, I read in their tone that I should ask about that thing they just mentioned casually, I know to nod my head and smile to communicate that I’m interested and paying attention. My perception is that the so called manipulative aspect of it enters when, for example, we intentionally ignore these cues that others are clearly putting out there, and I can choose what to do with that.
      But that's the thing, I think every type occasionally or frequently ignore specific circumstances because they simply don't want to follow an undesired path. That's not that different from INFJ "manipulation". I think the difference resides in efficiency and frequency INFJs explore and want to understand how these small social things work. Thus maybe having a greater potential to use that knowledge in effective ways.

When you want to connect, you use your abilities to show you are listening and you care. If you are trying to manipulate the conversation, you can easily get it done with incredible subtlety and apparent innocence. It’s scary, but low key kinda fun. So i'm not the best writer,
      Crime can be defined as breaking the law, which is essentially the rules for living within a society.
      But they're just that. Rules.
      Rules aren't inherently good or bad, but in the context of the law (a set of rules that govern individuals within a society for continued function, the opposite being anarchy) you can define what a good or bad rule is by a criteria of fairness, or what protects someone from being hurt unfairly by another.
      Take someone who decides to drive home after drinking at a party as an example.
      Someone may or may not get hit, he may or may not crash, he may or may not make it home.
      Is it fair to other people on the road, who are following the rules that ensure the safety of operating a motor vehicle, that the driver has affected his ability to be less than optimal for operating a system, and thus risen his chances of hurting someone? By breaking these rules he puts other people at risk, who are not breaking these rules.
      So it can be observed that rules tend to come from a place of protecting those who live in a society, from unfair treatment.
      It may offer perspective to consider "an eye for an eye" being the most primitive form of law, fairness, whatever.
      So boiling it down it can be like
      Good = what's for the greater good, for all.
      Bad = things that can be put on the far end of selfishness if it were a spectrum.

When my Dad comes over to my house, I can't get him to stop fixing things and making me join in on helping him fix things even though I am totally inept at it and just frustrate him... But I do crack jokes the entire time! Frank called me out and I didn't even realize it that is how I try to bond with others! Even when I go over to my Dad's house it's the same thing really. He is in the process of doing something and suddenly now I am part of it. If I am talking to him on the phone, he is constantly asking me what I am fixing or going to fix and I just think to myself ...uhhh ... You mean break right?

As an ENFJ, it's like it's physically impossible for me not to step up to accommodate a social interaction if it seems other people are feeling awkward, left out, down about themselves, etc (Fe dom). Idk I'm never really aware of asking these type of questions, they're just so much fun, entertaining and it inspires a lot of curiosity in me. Interesting. I am wondering if I am ISFP or INTJ (the online test all say INTJ) but we all know about cognitive Biases.
      INTJ 4w5, tritype 458, ILI
      However, I do enjoy my personal space, don't like my belongings being touched and don't like being disturbed. But prolonged social interaction can be draining even when I am the one explaining but that's how I understand a topic better by teaching it to another person.🤔
      And I don't think I know what the INTJ "vision" works like but I do know that I have constant internal monologue that weight pros and cons of my activities, what way will get me to where I am going faster and I take my time to prepare for things.
      I can't really say I know what inferior Se is like because I can't work on anecdotal evidence but I have always had this passion of wanting to have a better memory because I forget things even my keys and glasses easily, I remember faces but not names, remember memories sometimes as something else. To me it was a flaw which affected my efficiency who wouldn't like to be a moving encyclopedia, right?
      When I learn things, I have to be able to relate them to something I know already or I have to picture/imagine it's motion. This is actually fun for me because I am a Med student so visuals and picturing how the body operates makes it good.
      One of my fear is not being competent enough and compliments don't really have effects on me, things like dreaming about eradicating a disease from the face of the earth but wanting not to take credit for it.
      When I was going through some emotional trauma, I wanted to block the emotions they were strangling me and I kept on looking for reasons why a person would do what they did, I kept on reviewing the "why". It was an issue I wanted to get rid of.
      I used to like drawing mostly free hand but I never had to visualize it in my head I just drew but it wasn't ever as a form of self expression of emotions like happiness or sadness just something based on something fascinating.
      Sigh, I have gone on full blast mode. I am typing this to know if you have could relate with my descriptions. It might not give me my right type but it can at least evict INTJ from my list

      @@darth_santos1137 so INTJs are a strange lot. We are uniquely useful and useless. This "vision" which sets us apart, does so because we rely very heavily on it. Unfortunately, it's frequently wrong. Too often do we try to give our intuition a tangible presence, to quantify it for validity and shared usage (Te wants it to work for everyone). However, it's here where our weakness becomes glaringly obvious. We cannot collect the data (in an effective/meaningful way) we need to test our own systems. This is Se demon. We believe what "should" be the case but the reality might elude us turning us into those self defense "Experts" you see selling their classes.

I like to dig deep in conversations too and get to the heart of matters... like what are you traumatized by? XD maybe that’s the Scorpio in my chart.

At a church work day, I’m the one who plugs the vacuum cord back in after you pull it out and finds an extension cord, leaves a bottle of water at the base of your ladder, organizes the ten little kids running around wild into teams to comb the church parking lot for trash, turns down the burner under the chili pot and gives it a stir just before it boils over, thus saving lunch, and then goes back to work taking care of all the little corners that everyone else forgets, such as touching up paint, dusting light fixtures, or getting the annoying trash out of the hymnal racks.
