Thanks for getting this video to 100k views, and for getting me to 1k subs, which happened at the same time!
If you're going to yell at me about Infinite World read this:
I'll detail it more in my next video but some time down the line I'll be making a video about reevaluating my most disagreed with ratings. Infinite World at this point deserves to be among them, so before you tell me I'm wrong about it, bide your time because there will be a time and place to get those criticisms looked at. I guess Budokai 3 will also deserve a place in that video too.

In 2008 I was living with a friend of mine, and his younger brother would come by and see me playing BT3, and he would fight me and always lose, and lose bad. So I told him he could play the game for 3 days and I wouldn't touch it. 3 days to get better at it and we'd have a 5 on 5 battle. Something that I'll always appreciate about Budokai 1 is how much effort they put into actual cutscenes. Every budokai game after that was basically just a graphic novel in terms of story mode. Budokai 1 was before its time and definitely didn't have the tech to make amazing looking cutscenes, but it has a lot more heart in the story mode, imo. Also, that first minigame in Budokai 1 where you are Goku trying to keep Radditz lined up with Piccolo's charging Special Beam Cannon - the music still gives me anxiety hahaha. And the following cutscene is completely brutal and I think actually did the source material justice.

    • @Sawngawkuh
      @Sawngawkuh Před 3 lety +11

To be fair to later entries, it isn't so much that they "put less effort" into them, and more that Dimps and such (wisely) started to dedicate more resources into fleshing out the gameplay and content of succeeding entries. They focused more on fully animated scenes for the original because they were just establishing the foundation for the series moving forward, then the priorities shifted into making more fully realized games over the spectacle. Had it been like these days where more time and money are given to these sorts of projects (as publishers back then would rush devs for most licensed-based titles), they'd probably continue the trend, but as is, they made the right call moving forward.

To be fair, this mechanic is never expanded on by the game, any of its manuals or any guide before Infinite World. I disagree with Infinite World, the gameplay has a revamp, the combos are better refined by combining Shin Budokai, Burst Limit, and Budokai 3’s engine into one. Canceling, Juggling, Defensive Options is better. Just because your a casual type of player and don’t practice the Budokai games itself doesn’t mean Infinite World is bad.

@@SonnyDha_B I think that the only good thing infinite world did was make the capsule system actually work. And I do have to disagree about dragon rush because dragon rush was accompanied by a huge risk of stunning yourself and losing all of your ki and your transformations. The damage output can be great but the chance of failing increases from 25% to 50% throughout the attack. You can even lose if you fail the first part of Dragon rush. It's a big risk vs reward component.

Glad to see you gave Budokai the criticism it deserves. The game has not aged well at all and only retains any presence for putting more effort into cutscenes than most. It's surprising how Budokai 2 is treat as the black sheep of the trilogy despite having far better gameplay, some unique character forms/fusions and a story mode that's more than a straightforward adaption.
One error in the video is the statement that Tenkaichi 2 introduced characters being unlocked through item fusions. A significant amount of the first Tenkaichi's roster featured this method, particularly for some of the stronger forms and those not connected to the core story arcs (ie. films and GT). If anything, Tenkaichi 2 was a step down in this as Tenkaichi 1 would also have some characters unlocked by gathering the Dragon Balls.

I agree. B1 is honestly overrated, as it has the worst gameplay mechanics and graphics in the trilogy + IW. They put more effort into the cutscenes, then they did into the fighting system. Remember how bad the skillshop was ? People are just blinded by nostalgia. But its still a solid 6/10 for me.

Like you said, the battle system, the music, the extensive story mode, and everything else about it were MASSIVE improvements over the original, and even though 3 improved the gameplay a bit, so many other things were either cut or made worse in that game. Glad to finally see someone else who appreciates it.

Despite all the DBZ games that have come out over the years, BT1 has the most badass and authentic Intro of all of DBZ games of the Franchise. BT2 and BT3 in my opinion still remains the most Unique and the best DBZ games in terms of content, quality and fanservices. And from the gameplay perspective aspects, these DBZ games that I mentioned are very close to the anime itself because of the Vibe and Charm, I don't know how to describe it but it was, and still is the most Unique DBZ experience you could have with the combat factor. (- Sheer amount de of characters
      - Transformations mid-battle (powering up and down)
      - Fusions mid-battle
      - Fast gameplay that has that "woah" feel
      - Tons of extra content
      - Story mode covering all sagas + movies
      - What If sagas
      - Shenron having permanent impact on game (character unlocks and whatnot)
      - Great tournaments that rotate availability
      - Edit characters with items (buffs)
      - 5v5 battles
      - Really Great and Epic Soundtracks
      - Destroyable environments
      - Entire stages could be blown up into their "destroyed" alternatives
      - Mission 100 being a great challenge
      - Artwork is 10/10
      - Sound effects are great
      - Combat feels heavy and satisfying) Only Budokai 3, Infinite World and the Raging Blast 1 and 2 are still considered also very solid DBZ games, also the hidden gem that a lot of DBZ fans missed from PS2 Era of DBZ games is "Super Dragon Ball Z" which is also a real Unique and DBZ game, especially for the different gameplay aspects perspective. ✌☯️

The lightening is yellow in the manga. The kamehamehas are also yellow in the manga depending if it is the full color release of the manga. Also budokai 1 is still great. Graphics are amazing and it’s super simplistic combat system allows players to quickly master mechanics. The depth comes when you can cancel combos and you can cancel any string into another. It has more depth than soul caliber 1

Ok, I appreciate the time you took to make this video, but I just wanted to voice one of my opinions. I have been regularly playing the DBZ games that are out on PS4, (for this purpose, I will exclude Kakarot) and I recently reconnected my PS2 to my TV to play some of the old DBZ games. I noticed you said the transformations in the orginal Budokai were very insignificant in terms of power boost, but I would like to remind you the difference between Base Goku and SSJ Goku is pretty big; I'd approximate double of the original base damage. For example, if I were to throw out transformations that were practically useless in games, Id say Xenoverse is a good choice as the power difference is so miniscule it's almost unnoticed (I do realize this title is labeled for ps2 games only but just wanted to provide an example for reference).

You have to be absolutely joking about infinite world. The gameplay is far better than budokai 3 for just two reasons:
    1. Hyper mode in budokai 3 is absolutely garbage. Every time you use it your opponent knows that you're either going to go for an ultimate and/or dragon rush and will just start running away from you and avoiding you until your hyper mode runs out. Telegraphing that you're going to use an ultimate is incredibly lame.
    2. The removal of dragon rushes. You seriously liked these? It's a Rock paper scissors simulator. The only way dragon rushes would be remotely bearable is if each character had their own unique one. After the millionth time of seeing the same dragon rush you just wanna fight and not play rock paper scissors.

Dragon Rush is the worst system in any fighting game, just no.
Removing speed blocking systems and focus on more damage to combo ratio skill is not a downfall of Infinite World, it is a crap toss point but I agree with the whole no Tournament though.

Budokai 2 is my favorite dbz game of all time. You can combo cancel and transportation into other combos. You can also move charge in the middle of combos to guard smash and still continue the combo. You had the same opinion my best friend had. He just didn't have a deeper understanding of the combat system. But the requirements for the combo before ki blasts in the first game is why I loved 2..

B3 made me realize how much I missed out on when i was a fulltime gamer, its so much better in nearly all aspects. The only thing thats gamebreaking is the RNG-heavy stupid dragonrush mechanic, and the broken Ai spamming hyper mode every 10 seconds on hard difficulty

  • @mohamedalismacktalk382
    @mohamedalismacktalk382 Před 3 lety +3

My favourite is definitely infinite world here's why:
1-the story mode has ACTUAL cutscenes instead of the cardboard cut outs that were in the budokai 3 game, also the mini games were fun to play and it made you feel like you're interacting with the series.
2- the gameplay has improved, the control layout is better and THERE IS NO DRAGON RUSH to always break the pacing of the fight.
3-more characters, this game has characters from GT also pikkon and janemba, sure some of the ultimate attacks can't be blocked but the actual ultimate themselves are amazing additions to the game.
4-the ost although budokai 3 intro theme is amazing I think overall the soundtrack in infinite world is better than budokai 3.
5-the CPU is actually way smarter and violent than budokai 3 which makes the battles more intense and fun
In the end infinite world is just like the back of the cover says it is "the best of the budokai series" it's just a shame it came out so late, in fact this was the last DBZ game released for the console.

And like you just stated: you loved it as a kid, where we don't really think about how the game is built and don't have much of an understanding of good game mechanics and gameplay, therefore nostalgia makes you believe that the game is good despite the fact that in reality it is a terrible game.

Good to see some love for Budokai Tenkaichi 2. Out of every Dragon Ball Z game, I think that was the one that makes you most feel like you're actually playing the show. With the transformations, fusions, destructible environments, dashes, teleportations, and MANY special moves, it just captures the feeling of Dragon Ball Z perfectly. And that's BEFORE you factor in that it includes almost every DBZ character and battle you can think of. Then on top of that, the music is awesome. BT3 has a better battle system but like you said, the story mode and soundtrack are markedly inferior to BT2. The best of BT2 and BT3 together with remastered graphics would easily be the best DBZ game ever made.
