  • This mini clone of the old Atari 2600 "woody" has 40+ games built in and comes with Atari 2600 compatible controllers. But the truth is being a "TV plug and play" system I've overlooked it many times. Let me tell you why you shouldn't!

    I recently got mine modified with the cartridge port, and a Harmony cart thus making it the absolute best Flashback model by a lot.

      Nice setup gives you clean composite video too I've seen mods on real 2600s for that but they can be hit or miss and often not a super clean image as you would expect

  • @92vinman

    He was not thinking of people modding his system. It was originally intended to have a cartridge slot included but because of time issues was not included in the final product. The parts where the cartridge slot would have been are still located there thus making it easier to mod.

    This was really informative thanks for making this video. I plan to get an atari 2600 one day, but this might hold me over until I have more space to build up a collection of real atari 2600 games if I bought the real console.

  • @MN12BIRD
    @MN12BIRD  Před 12 lety

    Yeah there are some 7800 games on the Flashback but those are the ones that you can really tell something is off in the conversion/emulation. It is indeed an NoaC and the games have been ported to NES code.

    That's great that it plays like a real Atari 2600 because sadly I was one of those nerdy guys that noticed how weak the emulation was on the first flashback.

    Nice you got one. Great collector system, I have not played much since getting a Harmony cart since it can hold the whole 2600 library but still a great conversation piece and nice to have the composite cable option. Yeah it is virtually identical to the original as far as game play and compatibility etc.

  • @WARPUDDY666
    @WARPUDDY666 Před 14 lety

    there are some hidden games on it if you have paddles
    To access the hidden paddle game menu, the user must press up on the joystick 1 time, pull down 9 times, push up 7 times, and pull down 2 times (this represents the year 1972, in which Pong first appeared). The code must be entered steadily and without pauses (enter it too quickly and it won't work)

    @MN12BIRD I'm impressed with your skills and learn a lot from you. So I find it very bold of you to admit that a mod might be tough. If you ever get a cheap one, you should give it a shot. I tried it and killed my $7 Flashback2. I bought another and learned my lesson (it's a tough mod--it's way too crammed in there!). I do have to disagree about the joysticks. I think they are fantastic--original design with today's technology! Yours might need a cleaning. Thanks for the 1-9-7-2 tip!

    It's good that it has composite out right out of the box but you won't be able to play ALL 2600 games on it since it's not 100% compatible with genuine Atari 2600.

    Great video. By the way, do you think that old plug'n'play atari joystick from jakks pacific is a NOAC? All these years I thought I was playing on real AOAC hardware but now I'm worried. It seems like most other plug and play units use NOAC hardware, such as the spongebob plug and play.

  • @tarstarkusz
    @tarstarkusz Před 7 lety

    I'm wondering how they got games like Millipede to work. Millipede is a super-chip 16k game. Usually the bankswitching hardware is on the cart and the super-chip (an extra 128bytes of ram) is on the cart. A lot of these games use different bankswitching techniques. Since there is no cartridge hardware, the designer must have added these abilities to the hardware. It also makes me wonder why they didn't continue to use this actual Atari hardware on subsequent releases.

    I don't have a DVD recorder but my TV tuner works well with most content inc Sega Genesis and that's the main reason I bought the ATi 650 over the few Haupagge cards I treid that wouldn't jive with the Genny. Most TV tuners I've tried inc generic Phillips tuners don't like the Genny.
