  • Here is a an explanation of the "muffler mod' for the NPP exhaust of a C6 Corvette (a Z06 in this case). Isaac and I will talk about the modification, walk you through the steps, and show before and after footage. This is a great mod for anyone looking to make their car louder while maintaining the valved capability and not breaking the bank.

    To my knowledge depending on the year off npp exhaust it's already done factory. I believe it was 10-13 that's done from factory.

    That was very interesting. If you didn’t want a quiet mode option would this be the same as just removing the mufflers?
    Enjoyed the video explanation.

      Technically yes. In loud mode it is effectively a straight pipe through the muffler, bypassing all of the sound suppression.
      I will say that the X-Pipe, cats, and resonator do a fairly good job of keeping the noise down, even in “loud” mode (aka mufflers removed). If you’re looking for significantly more volume you definitely are going to want a set of headers. It’s where I’m at right now.

    Nice! You should do an quite mode before and after to

      Thanks for the comment Arthur. I meant to! I recorded this a few months ago and forgot to film that. It’s basically the same volume as before, maybe a tiny bit louder.

    How did you weld both sides of the 2.5" pipe over the perforated section? Or did you only weld the one side? Loved the explanation of how these mufflers work with the valve, appreciated that.

      Thanks for the comment Nate! Good question. We just welded as far as we could reach, which was most of it. You could cut the other side of the muffler open to close the weld completely, but I thought it was unnecessary.

    Hi thanks for the great was the 2,5 inch pipe sufficient? I see in some clips a 3,5” pipe is needed

    • @MotivEngineering
      @MotivEngineering  Před rokem

      Been a while since I tackled this. You could try to use 3.5”, but it may be too large and you’d have gaps in the welding. I had good luck using the 2.5” as seen in the video.

    I put the old style turbo mufflers on my 2011 grand sport. A little bracket mods and I was in business. The sound is INFINITELY better than that sh*tty popping and crackling noise. It's got that heavy deep sound a vette is supposed to have...

    Only wish you had a better explanation of removing them from the car. I have it loose but not enough room to clear the rear frame cross member

    • @MotivEngineering
      @MotivEngineering  Před rokem

      I raised the car high enough so that I could rotate the whole system down (towards the ground) and back. As long as you can get it high up enough it should just come out.

    DUDE! Don't say "motor." The thing that powers your Corvette is an "engine," not a "motor!" Motors are electric. Engines use gasoline. Look it up.
