    I use my Pegasus, just as a portable workspace for light tasks. I prefer to use my Triton Superjaws XL and a pair of MSA200 workstands (which are also portable). At home, I use my permanent workbench. A pair of Pegasus would be interesting. You wouldn't expect it to shake as much. Great video.

      I've never worked with the Triton Superjaws or MSA. The three legs didn't seem like they would be stable but they must be for so many people to depend on them. Now that I've moved to a permanent workshop (different then when this video was filmed) I'm considering building a permanent bench. Thanks for watching.

    I use power tools and have two of these tables. They work perfectly. If you want to strip a 4x8 MDF into 5.5” boards you could cut the entire length while supported by these tables.
    Every tool or device will have pros and cons. I feel you are demonstrating just the cons. The two tables I have are better than using two saw horses.

      This video was actually the sequel to another Pros & Cons review of my small woodworking workbench. So I put it through the same trials as that previous video. For hand tool woodworking it did have limitations. But honestly 99% of the people buying one would use it with power tools. I had no idea when I made the video that it would be so popular, much less get over 100 views. I agree with you that it is an outstanding portable table and since making that video I have found new uses for it in my workshop. Thanks for watching and giving me your honest opinion.

      @@RichoWoodworkingI missed the first video so I should’ve gone back to watch it. I just stumbled upon your channel and subscribed. After along time trying to find contractors who were available and not finding any I decided to remodel my house myself. I used to be a carpenter when I was working my way through college. I’ve been watching woodworking videos for the past 3 months learning from so many excellent craftsmen. I call it the University of CZcams ;). I’ve learned so much.
      In one of my first projects on my house I paid for the roughly $1000 worth of tools & equipment. Not a bad investment. I really love the Worx tables. They’re perfect for how I use them. I wish I had more room so I could have a workshop.
      All the best on creating more videos. As a filmmaker I know how difficult it is and the amount of effort and talent goes into creating programs. Keep up the good work! Happy holidays and New Years!

      @@MovieMakingMan I'm always impressed by people who go all in to remodel themselves. I probably should do that myself. I was initially trained in woodworking by the furniture conservators at Colonial Williamsburg where I worked for nine years. You can see some of that inspiration in the puzzle cabinets I've made. I pride myself on having a very small workshop and still be able to enjoy woodworking. With two Worx Pegasus it sounds like you've already got one. Thanks for subscribing. I hope to have more content out in 2023 in my new workshop.

    The table's lack of heft definitely works against it when working with larger boards - I've had to stabilize it with my foot to prevent it from pitching forward while cross-cutting dimensional lumber. But that's the trade-off - it is so small and portable! And in combination with the bench dogs (which up until this point I was calling "nubbins") the clamps are extremely stable. I will occasionally complement the clamps with vertical clamps at the edge to add extra stability.

    • @RichoWoodworking
      @RichoWoodworking  Před rokem +1

      Portability is definitely the key. I wonder if the problem with larger lumber is where they are hoping you will buy an additional table to connect to it for better stability. Thanks for your honest review and for watching.

    • @kenflagg
      @kenflagg Před rokem

      @@RichoWoodworking They sell sawhorses that, AFAICT, sit flush with the Pegasus and would work very well when dealing with long pieces of lumber. Honestly this is always a challenge without a dedicated workspace - I have a DeWalt portable table saw and when I'm ripping 12 foot decking boards I need my wife to help make sure the board doesn't start to tilt the wrong way. In that case I use the Pegasus plus some scrap wood to create a semi-flush extender to keep the wood as level as possible. It would be great if there were ISO standards for this kind of stuff!

  • @ericfranke1637
    @ericfranke1637 Před 2 lety +1

    Thanks for the testing. Looks like when needing extra clamping strength, we need to bring in a vertical clamp to the material. Also, looks like cutting with a circular saw would avoid a lot of the wobble. And for the dogs, it would be a good idea to affix some rubber pads with adhesive backing for grip.

    • @RichoWoodworking
      @RichoWoodworking  Před 3 měsíci

    I think these portable stations nowadays are for use with power tools and is meant for those who travel from job to job. Hand tools such as planers and chisels require stabiliity of a permanant work station in order to maximize percision that or very sharp hand tools that minimize exertion. But this video definitely shows the tables' limitations.

      I wouldn't want to damage the wood surface of the small workbench with T-tracks. But it could be an option for someone else who may be thinking of building one. T-tracks would be great for a hold-down solution but it can also be limiting with the track's location. Thanks for watching.

    Does clamping with other clamps through the dogholes work well?

    • @RichoWoodworking
      @RichoWoodworking  Před 3 měsíci +1

      It probably depends on the clamp. Some are too wide to even fit through the hole. Due to the waffle surface beneath you would need a piece of wood to help hold the clamp in place. It isn't solid underneath.

      @@damianooi8261 I've read that the Workmate they sell today is nothing like the one that was available in the 70's through 90's. To be honest, though I have a circular saw, I rarely use it because I've found I get better, straighter cuts with a manual hand saw. But that's on lumber and not pallets. Some get two workbenches to use together. It would seem that a standard pallet is larger than the Worx Pegasus can hold. Not sure what the solution would be for a pallet.

      I have an old and trusty Workmate but the wood is nicked all over and one of the legs is bent. I retract the legs and it’s fine, but I’m looking for a replacement. Most of these portable tables don’t have a good spot for your foot. As a workaround, what do you think about bracing the workbench against a wall or for separation from a wall a 2 x 8?
      I also thought about rigging some weight lifting weights using webbing and looping it through the holes on the bench top. Do you know if any small bench adapter to pass through the holes. When I’m done I can post a photo of a solution.

    • @RichoWoodworking

      @@artsolano6762 Workmates from 40 years ago are still among the best portable workbenches but as you said they are wearing out now. The guy I got this workbench from had a Workmate but it needed a new top. Also it didn't look like those original Workmates that I seek after now. I have also thought about weights for holding the bench down. An adapter, even something like wood with Festool hold downs may be something that can attach the top of the table to another sturdier surface.

    • @artsolano6762
      @artsolano6762 Před 10 měsíci

      @@RichoWoodworking part of the solution I think involves using a ratcheting strap attached to a weight. I think you want the weight to remain on the ground with tension on the strap to avoid any swinging. Some straps are as thin as 1 inch wide and might fit cleanly looped through two holes on the work bench surface.
      Festool hold downs solution sounds interesting. Maybe this would be a good topic for a video. :-)

    • @RichoWoodworking
      @RichoWoodworking  Před 2 lety

      Yes that is certainly an option. As I mention later in the video one of my clamps that came with the table was not as strong as the other, most likely due to use by the person before. I had seen others complain of this as well.
