Man. The guys in those days were not to be fucked with.
Rip to the legend Ernie Ladd
I’m 6’9 and I cover the world I walk -Ernie Ladd
“When I walk “
i saw ernie and andre in albany ny in the mid 70s. what a match.
Did he slap Andre in the presence of his parents?
The Big Cat was a real 1. Don’t mess with Ernie Ladd.
6"9" athletic pro football player.
LOL the Brisco brothers needed some body work after Ernie got through with them
Back about the 1980, I interviewed Ernie Ladd in Chicago after an amphitheater match, and all he talked about was the piss poor payoff that he got from promoter Bob Luce 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Tell ‘em Bobo!
Chicago was always sold out
Luce, not Loose
@@MyNameIsUnavailable I think he knows
@@johnthegreat He updated it after I politely informed him. I think YOU didn't know that.
Big cat Ernie handled his business.
I know Ole Anderson said the Brisco’s gave him their solemn word they wouldn’t sell their part of Georgia Championship Wrestling to Vince McMahon and as soon as they got through promising Ole they wouldn’t they went straight to Vince and stabbed Ole in the back.
To be fair, Ole had karma in one shot.
Ole also admitted he stopped paying them their share of proceeds from Georgia. To borrow one of Vince's favorite lines... "Ole screwed Ole."
Ladd came back, proving again no one who could draw was ever blacklisted. This incident took place during one of Ernie's first visits - 1975 or 1976, (Frankie Cain also liked telling this story). Ladd had a huge run a year or two later against Dusty. I think Ernie was the Florida Champ when he left the first time which was why the TV thing was a big deal.
@seangoodwin3046 I'm pretty certain Ernie worked for both sides in the Georgia promotional war in the 70s.
They messed with his lively hood.❤
Big Cat. I saw him in a gym. Largest, biggest human I've ever seen 😊
He was a Greek god in his prime. Zero roids
I remember my dad telling me about this. I don't remember the part about the tire iron but it makes more sense than what I was told.
My father's version was both of the Briscos were drunk or stoned and tried to take him down. Ernie Ladd kneed both of them in the head as they came in and knocked them out, threw them in the back seat and dropped them off at the hospital.
It's funny how the story gets changed but that was the version he heard from Gordon Solie.
The Sportatorium "parking lot" was nothing but sand as Dutch Mantell says, with a cluster of cabbage palms in the middle.
There was a huge pile of dead palm branches. I was told there were homeless guys living under those branches, which I didn't believe because it was the middle of summer and unbelievably hot. One day we were leaving the office and my dad says "Hey, fellas, what's up?" and a gravelly voice replied "Hello Coach".
I visited Grambling last year. Ernie Ladd is a legend there.
I always thought it was hilarious how on TV promos he'd refer to Dusty as "Dirty Rhodes"
I always wanted to hear the whole story on that ,this happened in either 81 or 82 .The old CWF office and building is still there and has not changed much as i drive by when ever iam in the area
That almost sounds exactly like when Andre beat up Dick Murdoch and Blackjack Mulligan and threw them in the trunk and drove them to the hospital!?
sounds like a fun story as well
That never happened … do you really think there was a car that had a trunk big enough for Black Jack Mulligan himself much less he and Dick Murdoch who was 6ft4 270? And also Andre never drove he was always a passenger .
@@carlosdanger947 I could be wrong but I think it was the Brisco’s Andre beat up and threw them in the trunk.
I think the story if I remember correctly.
Andre beat up two guys from a bar fight, put them in the truck of a cab, and paid the driver to take them to the hospital. Then he went back to drinking.
I don’t remember Ernie Ladd in Florida pass 84. And the Brisco’s left in 82
Tony Atlas told almost the exact same story on the Boston Wrestling channel (RIP Dan Mirade).
We're gonna poddy, wit moddy
Rip 🙏🏻 dan
@NabiscoAmerican 😢 pahty with mahty
Wrestling shenanigans stories are the best stories
As a fan that got into NWA Florida wrestling in the sixties with my grandparents it was truly sad to see downfall of Florida wrestling
necause of vince mcmahon's greed
Ole Anderson said the Brisco's would threaten to jump people a lot
Ernie liked to travel from region to region he often said that’s why he didn’t care for a championship belt it would tie him down to one region to long.
incredible how small the Sportatorium in Tampa actually is . capacity maybe 120 persons .
Less than that, about 75 capacity. We used to go there for the taping of the TV show in channel 44. Lisa Z was my friend's sister who worked on the show so we always got in.
This is one i'd never heard of before! Keep up the good work guys!
The briscoes are getting restless
I can't imagine anyone not wanting to talk to Dutch. There's some really good interviews out there but as story telling goes Dutch is the absolute best. Also round table style discussion. I've yet to see anyone bring up someone's name that Dutch doesn't have a good story about. What a life!!! And he's been smart enough to stay away from the stuff that's made everyone else forget everything!!!
I love dutch's stories. Thank you for the podcast guys! I love how Dutch says smoke a doobie. I would love to smoke with Dutch
Big cat. One of my favorite heels. RIP champ. 😊
Great story...but Dutch's timeline and memories are jacked up sometimes.
It's hard for me to remember what happened yesterday and I'm 45😢
Ernie Ladd with a tire iron is the stuff of nightmares😮
Thanks for answering my question. Love the book.
That's some "Casino" level of violence!
Thank God for tire tools.
💯✊🏾 the Big Cat
Dutch is confused, Dusty left to go to NWA and he took alot of talent with him like Lex Lugar and Barry Windham.. And Dusty was booking in NWA
He was already in the NWA.
Yep It was actually Dusty and the Crockett territory that closed the Florida territory
It was the death of Eddie Graham that caused CWF to cease operations
@@timfrederick9305 - Dusty screwed over Eddie Graham.
Florida was in NWA. Dusty left Florida and went to Crockettt. Lex went to Mid Atlantic around the time when Crockett brought Eddie Graham.out
Put another log on the fire.
Cook me up some bacon and some beans.
And go out to the car and change the tires
Wash my socks and sew my old blue jeans
Jerry Brisco vs The Super Destroyer/Spoiler Don Jardine. What a great match.
Interesting stuff !
Dutch is fun I like watching or listening
Love dutches stories, he's been through it all it seems
Bleeding like a...waterfall? Love Dutch.
Story is EPIC
How did they make up?! I'd never speak to him again. I'd be driving around listening to The Big Payback
Big Cat 💪🏾💪🏾✊🏾
Best story teller in the biz.
If memory serves it was Ole that told a somewhat similar story. Just not quite as detailed. And for some reason Ole seemed to find it amusing/entertaining as if he enjoyed the idea of Ernie Ladd beating the Brisco's up.
There’s no as if. Ole was quite happy about it. 😅😅
@@fightsports66 I kinda got that impression myself.
"They were going to beat the shit out of Ernie Ladd ...but Ernie Ladd beat the shit out of them " LOL
HI DUTCH 😃 I never heard this story before; Jack Brisco is a legit "bad ass" I heard.
brickhouse brown told this story almost word for word..
Close the lid!!
Dutch needs a channel where he can tell us stories from Shakespeare and the bible...
Oh Shit! 😂
Billy jack said it best..wrestling was like prison..you had to take the mentality that when someone fucked with you you tucked back even more srriously
History would be a great thing if only it were true.
The cat takes the stooge down
Im concerned about The Dutchman
Dutch timelines wrong. Florida wasn’t about to close up at the time Ladd and Briscos worked Florida. Not even close. This had to have occurred in 1980ish and it closed in 87
Baldwin louisana
Now they are in the car?
The intellects and egos would make that biz "ALMOST" unnavigable. Ernie lost a load of money over fake wins / fake losses which folks only semi kept up with anyway. Mantell seems to be sensible.
This man is a walking , talking history book.
Dutch the sumerians had contracts buddy.😂 There's no such thing as before contracts.
Didnt Andre do the same the to some one ?
Dutch? The briscos have the upper hand by going around Ladd but give it up because he said wait a minute guys and grabbed a wrench. Come on
Never, ever liked the Brisco brothers, & still can’t stand Gerry. Glad to hear this story
They were not nice people in real life, although they were baby face characters.
Find that very hard to believe …. 2 college wrestling champions who both had their hands on him were beat down? I think it’s much more believable that he pulled out the jack before they were able to lay hands on him and then he hit them with it .
That's probably more how it went
Yeah I've heard this story several times and always found it a bit unbelievable, unless the brothers were stoned or drunk and just crazy out of their minds. Seems like some fanciful storytelling on the part of Ernie Ladd.
same reason dutch killed brodie - money from the territory.
Wrestlers and doobies? Nah, never! Lol
That's NOT what Ernie Ladd said Dutch since you don't know who's "dead" from Jack to Jerry. Florida Championship Wrestling was bought out by Jim Crockett not Vince McMahon as well.
For those idoits giving Vince that territory Erine should have to them
both!!
But they both tried to jump erine and he took a tire iron and knocked them both out that's the real story!
WWF took the top names and lied to them with fake promises!
I wish Dutch would get his facts straight.... Dusty left FL in '84 and steadily took talent to Crockett... Eddie killed himself '85.... FL was dead '87.... WwF got Dusty in '89 after his failed attempt to resurrect FL.... Briscoes already working for Vince since '84
Ok CAC
Seriously bro.. Who cares what years exactly, the good part is the story
It proves Dutch is full of 💩 and I can’t believe anything he’s said in the past. Another podcast I don’t have to waste my time with
Boo hoo who cares listen to the story
RJ CZcams took my comment down thanks for the facts
Ernie Ladd didn't have a right to tell them not to film it. It was their tv show.
But obviously the agreed verbally to him or else he wouldn't have been in the ring to begin with. So. it's more about them breaking their word than he not having the right to ask.
@@vedder10 that's like telling the WWWF not to film. Then he committed attempted murder.
@@Music-qt3ok According to the recollection Dutch just literally documented in the video they were encircling him to jump him. Watch it again if you missed that part. Looks to me like self-defense.
@@vedder10 they met him to discuss it. I didn't hear anything about violence.
@@Music-qt3ok I'm going to make this REAL easy for you. Here is the time stamp at 6:33 from when Dutch specifically states one of the got behind them. Now maybe you live in your mother's basement and have never been in a real hairy situation but people who have lived a while know a setup when they feel it. czcams.com/video/WBc9_RTDPGk/video.html
Gotdamn now that is gangsta...🤣
