i miss the atomic drop so much. especially the way rick rude sold it.
test of strength was always my favorite
Bret would hold their legs open like he was going for the shooter and then deliver a head butt to the “abdomen”. Always looked like a nut shot though.
Rake the back of your opponent and then look around and shake your head up and down saying Yeah Brother
I have to admit I never understood the raking of the back
@jamesrawlins735 Me either. Maybe, a quick muscle stretch?
chew on their face and then gesture to the crowd for support.... i NEVER understood how hogan was a babyface who'd get away with chicken shit heel moves (low blows, rakes, biting, etc)
@@mox19380 It NEVER made sense. Then again, that was his overall moveset; dirty.
I love the carny origins of wrasslin. Bring it back
Poke in the eye does for it all the time and you pull the ring ropes and the other wrestler on the other side flips back in automatically like magic. God, i miss those days, so childish.
Carny spots are the dad jokes of pro wrestling. I want them back. There’s always a place for silliness
I knew Dick Murdoch’s aunt Bonnie who raised him. Her husband was a wrestler also. She told me so many awesome stories. RIP Bonnie. I knew his family. They all called him Dickie
Murdoch was one hell of a character in life Sly as a silver fox! Had the pleasure of wrestling with Dickie the last few years of his life and wrestling against him a couple times, what a performer! Bought a bar with a studio apartment above it in Walsenburg Colorado where he died. 🙏🍺
I'd prefer going back to the test of strength instead of trading chest chops. Chest chops are getting boring.
Test of strength was some of the best parts
I remember Berzerker (John Nord) did it sometimes. There's a Coliseum VHS with a rare houseshow tag match with . . . Undertaker/Ultimate Warrior vs Papa Shango/Berzerker from 92'. Hard to believe but actually "entertaining tag match." Though the funniest part is when Berzerker gets Warrior in the corner, kneels down, and does the "Carny Spot Headbutt" to Warriors nuts hahahahahaha. From the angle the cameraman got it . . . L M A O . . . lets just say it tops the WM 6 meme. I'm serious hahahaha.
Tyler Bate does the "look up and punch" spot, but without running the ropes. I've seen people do the "falling face first and headbutt to the groin", but I think it's been a while since the last time and I can't remember who did it or where.
The last time I saw the head- butt to the groin was HHH vs Kurt Angle. 😅
Kurt was the one who fell down the HHH. 😂
Ric Flair! 😂
I think the Dudley's took the headbutt to the nuts and turned it into the WASSUP and it became theirs.
I remember one match, I forget who was in it, but the two were crisscrossing on the ropes, bad guy dropped down to let the good guy jump over him, only instead the good guy stepped on his back, hit the ropes, and ran across his back coming the other way, round and round until the bad guy managed to scoot out the ring.
I haven’t seen a stun gun in a while? Or like Dutch said the guys running the ropes opposite each other. Flair would always do the late fall after getting hit and fall flat on his face that was his specialty. Flair did a ton of Carny spots he wrestled the same match for 20 years
Yes but in his defense, he could do that while he was nwa champ because he was always in a different territory. when vinnie jr and jim crockett were the only 2 games in town, thats when he got exposed for having the same match for 20 years
"The Outlaws" Dick Murdoch and Dusty Rhodes. Late 1960's - early 1970's. Video of them on the AWA TV program from Minneapolis on CZcams.
Ever noticed when a guy hits a drop kick and lands he's ok. Same guy throws a drop kick and misses and he's half knocked out.
I think it was Brian Pillman who said that when you lack an opponent to "bouce of" you land differently.
the Bushwhacker battering ram?
Did anyone do it before the Bushwhackers? I don't think it's old enough to be a carny move. It's more of a gimmick move like the People's Elbow.
I think some of these things have been used in recent years...I think of the Santino Cobra thing, hell People's Elbow etc...still silly spots around but some of them are definitely not done
It's a hackneyed move but the airplane spin still impresses me for the strength required to do it.
They're challenging to do safely but old school jumping piledrivers still look devastating.
Any submission move that takes a while and slows down a match seems to be on the outs (sleeper hold, figure four, Boston crab, camel clutch, claw on the forehead or even abs, abdominal stretch, ankle locks, long armbars).
Back rake isn't used.
Hip tosses and swinging neck breakers seem rare. Targeting a spot like with a back breaker and working that spot through the match seems disused.
One cliché I don't miss is the 10 punch in the turnbuckle spot.
There was always the criss cross each other throwing into the ropes while one goes down and the other jumps over. Seriously, how hard is it to stop yourself from running? Sometimes after rope runs you'd get a chest bump that might turn into a test of strength or both going down for a double count.
Moves that don't seem used as much anymore but still look cool would be bulldogs, lariats, and DDTs.
Popular things from the 90s-00s that should be clichés now: choke slams, powerbombs, Austin style punches and stomps, thigh slapping super kicks.
I miss a the ol’ back rake.
I did not have James saying the word "ballsack" on my Bingo card today.
Sting always did the head to the 'ballsack' routine.
I did subscribe to both of these guys and this is My first video I'm going to watch their channels.
Harley Race had the kneeling headbutt to the groin as a signature move. 7/1/77 vs Terry Funk 2 out of 3 falls for the NWA Heavyweight Championship. 6/19/82 vs Kerry Von Erich in the Texas Stadium for A chance to face Rick Flair for the title. 7/9/83 vs Rick Flair for The Mid-Atlantic Championship as some notable references.
i liked the test of strength then when the heel got down to his knees and hands on the canvas the babyface would stomp on his fingers ... hogan would also do the criss cross hit the ropes spot but with a less entertaining result
it's insane the number of nwa champs, near champs, and could've been champs from west texas state:
champs: dusty, dory, terry, windham
could've been champs: bruiser brody
nearly champs: dibiase
in their own mind champs: Manny Fernandez
can you imagine taking an open field tackle from stan hansen?
Sting used that move. on several occasions.
Look up Les Kellett/World of Sport and you'll see most of these spots. Funny as hell but with a reputation as a real hard man in the ring as well.
Are you a fellow Wrestle Me fan?
Barry Windham headbutted Dr. Death in the groin in a spot at sc87. Greg Valentine headbutted Owen Hart in a spot at survivor series 88.
I think when Barry did that to Doc that was a screw up and he really nailed Doc in the balls because Doc laid there and held his balls for it seemed like 5 minutes I'm sure to Doc it felt longer than that.
Sting was King of that spot with both John Tenta and Ray Taylor.
The rock n roll/ midnight spot was called the tip toe.
INFINITESIMAL Dutch and Johnny Rain cloud show
I hated the ric flair face flop. I thought it was so stupid even as a small kid in the 80s.
He was dazed easily. What was he supposed to do?😊
Rockin the sunglasses indoors, well played…
Dick got hired by Coors and all he had to do was make appearances and drink beer and according to Cornette, he still managed to get fired.
Sting used to pull the fall and headbutt his opponents in the balls all the time in TNA
🎉🎉🎉
The heel using the ropes to get a break and would walk his feet up to the top rope and the face let's them go .
Dick was at that years royal rumble.
Everything involving ropes is "carny." Sometimes a babyface would taunt a stalling heel to re-enter the ring by sitting down on the middle rope and pushing up on the top one ... only to stand up suddenly and crotch the guy with the rope as he stepped through. Great!

Dick Murdoch was TRULY the master of ALL aspects of the nutshot. Giving one, selling one, whatever. On YT there is a Sha Na Na video called "Wrestling Tonight" (from GRUNT - The Wrestling Movie) where you can see Murdoch selling an atomic drop nutshot. It's transcendent. Perfect in a universal sense. When I was training all those years ago for this sport of kings, I was taught several racist spots. Things like if you headbutt a black man, YOU bump, even if you're the one coming off the ropes. When my trainer showed me these spots, he explained that "nobody does this anymore, but if you end up in there with some old timer that does, this is how the spot should go so you won't botch it." The last time I remember seeing such a spot on TV was when Jimmy Golden punched Porkchop Cash in the head and sold his hand in a big circle around the ring while announcer Ric Stuart was talking about the "cranial strength of Porkchop Cash". This was in 1980 or so, thirteen years before I would be taught these racist spots. Would these be considered "carny" spots? Maybe, even though I never heard them referred to as such.
I'm guessing they would be but the headbutt thing also used to apply to Samoan wrestlers as well if I'm understanding you correctly. Sign of the times...we could NOT have an Iron Sheik these days but in its time he drew money 😂
Sting would do the head to the groin spot later in his career
I remember a spot where Junkyard Dog talked about going to a barbecue with Dick Murdoch and it was a Klan rally. No one said a thing though because it was Dick Murdoch
Murdoch never went, he told JYD about a cookout in the middle of the woods. JYD and another black wrestler went and found out it was a Klan rally. When they confronted Murdoch about it he laughed and said he never thought they would go.
@@n0m4nic cool, it’d been a while and I didn’t remember correctly. Still pretty funny
Tony atlas claims it was him and tommy rich. Guess he could have done to multiple. Its pretty funny
@@kevinbbadd It's Dick Murdoch,, if it worked once why not try do it again?
1995 & He was gone before Ludvig Borger arrived im sure Dick and Ludvig would have had a lot in common...
After hearing about Killer Karl on Crime In Sports, he didn't seem like a good guy 😏. I guess it's another case of "he didn't do anything to me". We all have those people that we fawn over. Who is yours?
Carny headbutt spot is still scene but you gotta suffer thru a comedy match. I have seen it in aew and even recent wwe.
Hey Seymour I think I grew up with you dude.. if you got a brother named George and lived in the hall in high school how's it going buddy.. my name is Gary and have a brother named john
How often do wrestlers get attacked during interviews? When are wrestlers going to learn to not do interviews alone?
Anyone know the story about him bringing someone to a klan rally?
I miss the 10 punches in the corner and the test of strength.
Greg valentine use to use it, He would hit the guy in the sternum, Not the balls.
Is Dutch wearing makeup?
