Willow Lake Trail, Crestone Colorado - a beautiful Fall hike

- Willow Lake Trail in Crestone Colorado is officially our favorite hike in Colorado to date. The reason is that it has just about everything we love in one hike: a river, waterfalls, a lake, sweeping views, mountain views, wildlife, trees, and it’s not too difficult. We began the hike at 6am because we knew we had a very long day ahead of us. We had cell service for most of the hike - we lost it when we climbed all the way up and had to go deep into the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness. We clocked in just over 14 miles on this trail so we definitely recommend beginning early unless you plan to camp overnight, which there is plenty of, or you’re super speedy on your hikes. From the lake you can continue your hike to Kit Carson via Challenger Point. We HIGHLY recommend this beautiful trail in Crestone and we were AMAZED by the Fall foliage when we did it. Take note that Colorado often sees a lot of wildfires in the late spring/summertime so doing this hike during those seasons may present poor air quality - please also keep track of all fire bans in Colorado when camping.

We’re Anna D and Adam, vloggers living in Colorado. After the pandemic shut everything down in March of 2020, we decided to make more time to explore our own state in part for our own mental wellbeing and in part because we’d been living here over 5 years and had barely hiked more than 10 different trails.
