*PLEASE make a comparison video with sigma 16mm 1.4..! Thank you*
I had both- the Sigma on my Lumix, this on my Z30. Very similar lenses in quality Iâd say, not much between them. I prefer the slightly wider angle on the Viltrox I think, albeit it can distort a bit more ( particularly when filming something with straight lines going into the distance) as youâd expect.
Please don't shy away from the Viltrox because of its size and weight. It's very close to the Sigma 16mm F1.4 and I find shooting with Sigma much easier than I thought it would be. That's because when you choke up on the Sigma barrel, you have the weight of the lens and APS-C body perfectly balanced. Your right hand doesn't need to clench the camera body grip, so it stays more relaxed and makes pushing the shutter button much easier (in my opinion). Excellent review.
Great Video. Would this lens work for low light videos? In my case: Lost Places and Urban Exploration. I'm running a non stabilized Nikon Z50, with Weebill 2 Gimbal.
My concern would be the weather sealing - do you have any advice or other lens recommendations?
So excited because I purchased a Fuji XT5 I found this Lennin on Facebook marketplace for 450 bucks in Australia brand-new and it should get here next week so Iâll have a nice white man to go out with I donât but it is handy to have a wide lens. And Iâll give Astro a go as well loving the Fuji. Thanks for the review
Is there another under served focal range with APSC prime lenses? I love my 35mm 1.8 OSS. Seems like thereâs not much in the 24mm +/- range?
Stunning pictures
APSC not deadđđŒ
thank you, is it have only onbody manual aperture control ring? is it possible to control aperture from camera body?
I absolutely love your channel and content. I love your simple studio setup as well but I think it is time for you to get a small diaphragm condenser mic and mic out of frame. Just a suggestion, keep up the good work. Cheers
How's the coma distortion for astro-photography wide open and what's the minimum focus distance auto/manual focus?
I switched away from Sony after they released the a6600 because I was really hoping for a better aps-c body and the lens lineup at the time was just decent. Now it's insane and if they released an updated body it wouldn't even be a question to go back. Great review as always!
I think they will. Soon.
I like my a6600 but dont love it. Screen resolution and evf is okay at best. Buffer is slow. Battery life is excellent though and images are great. Feels good in the hand. Overall I like it but would also love to see a new Sony APS-C.
Sony >>> everything
@@Princeton_James yep, it's insane that their newest APS-C camera's only write at about 25MB/s
Welp you got it now, at $1400
Arthur. It is not fast but Zeiss Touit 12mm is not exactly out of the running
but I notice you donât mention it. Should I hide it under a bush?
Oddly enough, the Fuji X version seems to have a clicked aperture ring, and even though I use Fuji cameras, it feels weird Viltrox didn't renew this aperture ring for Z and E mounts.
Probably to align more on Fuji's tactility feel than the Sony and Nikon counterparts
Sir, I'm waiting for your review of Meike 85mm f1.8 sony e mount new release.
I'll stay faithful to my Rokinon AF 12mm f/2.0. I don't remember a single instance when I would be missing f/1.4, so the only flaw might be the relatively worse handling of secondary colors.
Hi what do you mean by worse handling the secondary colors? Im planning to get that samyang 12mm
@@gailguardian1203 Iâd say itâs nothing too major that some small color tweaking in Lightroom wouldnât fix
How about in video? Do you notice anything strange?
@@gailguardian1203 I use that lens for vlogging. Everything is great (especially weight and size) but sometimes it misses autofocus in low light situations or when you use ND.
@@gailguardian1203 I would think this lens would better for astrophotography compared to the 12mm.
Iâm definitely going to get one
Great review.. the only thing I would have appreciated is when you had all 5 lenses on the table the only one you mentioned by name was the Rokinon.. it would have been very helpful if you would have at least mentioned the brands as well as the mm of all of lenses.. in fact you're usually so thorough in your reviews that I was surprised that you didn't mention it... thanks and keep up the great work..đđđŹđ·
left to right:
sony 11mm f1.8
rokinon 12mm f2.0
viltrox 13mm f1.4
sony 15mm f1.4
sigma 16mm f1.4
@@elmingggg damn there are so many choices
Wondering if you have a recommendation/preference between Viltrox 13 mm 1.4 vs SOny 11mm 1.8? for both photos and vlogging? Using SOny 6300 currently and waiting for my ZV E10 to arrive.. Both look amazing and only want one wide angle option. thanks
Which did you go with
Will you review the Viltrox 75 f1.2 made for Sony APS-C?
Great job Arthur. What is it about the Rokinon that makes it the worst, as I have one and it still seems quite good except for some CA. AF or manual focus version of the Rokinon?
I have the rokinon as well, quite happy with it
Just the autofocus performance. Itâs good, but not AS good as the others.
â@@ArthurR Yeah, it loses the face sometimes in video, at least for me. It's not often enough to make it a big issue, but it's not top notch. Definitely slower in AF than my Tamron 17-70. If I didn't have it, I'd get this new Sony 11 1.4 , but since I have it, I don't think I feel the need to switch
Nikon Z mount version has a weather seal on it. Nice addition. But strangely doesnât have the click aperture like the Fuji.
Wait, what? They declicked the aperture ring on the E-mount version?
I'm 99% sure the Fuji X-mount version had clicky aperture rings, one of their first lenses to do so.
I suspect it is because far more Sony users are using their camera for video than Fuji users. And for video shooting, the declicked aperture is important.
I never thought I'd be in a position where I'm seriously overwhelmed by sony apsc lens choices.
The icing on this cake would be a new body with a new better sensor.
Yes, thereâs a lot of us waiting for that.
It's mind blowing how long it has been since any major change with the sensor. What, like A6300 6 years ago? And even that was only a little update from 2014 A6000. I understand cameras aren't phones but still..
@@avavaviv1 yeah, the sensor's age is showing. I'm not sure if it's a logistics problem or sony trying not to compete with their FF line up.
Yeah me too, been waiting for sonys anouncement for years
@Oh hi While understandable, as a hobbyist, I have no intentions to ever put FF money into my hobby. No good reason to do so (in my case at least). So they are just making me tell people to stay away from Sony's APC-S as its future is probably uncertain (or it was).
Okay so I got the Sony 11mm and the Viltrox 13mm. Other reviewers have mentioned that the 2mm focal length makes a difference- it does. 2mm is 2mm. I know we would all like to take half a step back to get that extra 2mm but in reality, you know that is not how it works. I find the Viltrox a close to perfect lens. It's crazy sharp with a nicer 3D pop than the Sony. The Sony is a hair faster to acquire focus, the difference is noticeable. Where the Sony wins big is with weight and size. Many people comment on the size of the Viltrox. I would agree, it's pretty big. The Viltrox wins big with very little distortion. I recommend getting them both. If you only need 1 for vlogging then go for the Sony 11mm because of the weight and focal length.
great sharing đđ
I have the Nikon version of the 13mm and yes, it does have a weather sealing gasket đ
This one or the sony 11mm f1.8? Really can't decide.
Wide fast lenses like this one or Sigma 16mm f1/4 etc are perfect for astrophotography and night shots as well, it would be very useful for some sample photos of the sky in next previews to compare brightness, sharpness, or distortion of the stars on the edges đ
I personally was thinking to buy Sigma 16mm mainly for night shots but now i see the options are so many for APS-C!
czcams.com/video/kUMjaLQAyjs/video.html
ERRATA: Someone did astrophotography tests with the Fuji version!
Same thought, this might be a strong alternative to the Sigma 12mm F2 as well
I think sigma 16mm will remain good đ
My favorite lens for youtube video in ef 17-40 f/4. But for photos 24-104 f/4đđ
Thanks! This one vs Sigma 16mm, what's your suggestion for talking head for CZcams with an APS-C?
Iâm wondering the same thing.
I think this, just zoom in slightly, i mean the 13mm
@@kenprodigalidad6925 You'd have more distortion on your face though, so there'd be an actual difference not just in the zoom I think.
@@DatingDilemmaBreakdownthats easy! might consider geting a little bit farther from the lens, i think it applies to all lens whether telephoto or wide angle.

Just wish there 35mm was as good, as my favourite full frame range is 20mm and 50mm.
Arthur is there good 35mm for APSC
The Sigma 30mm F1.4. The Sony 35mm F1.8 is good too.
One point you did not find, it has linear step which you can do manual focus pull, slow or fast focus pull will be perfect pullsâ€
I've just ordered sony 11mm f1.8 ....did I make wrong decision instead of choosing this ? Was concerning on distortion. I purely do videography only. Pls advice. Tq brother
How's the Sony 11mm f1.8?
I want a 16mm 1.4 lens WITH stabilization... Please manufacturers... If this would have stabilization I would buy it straight away
like camera and video
How big is the image circle? Wonder how much vignetting it'll get on full frame.
It vignettes the sides completely.
APS-C lenses are never compatible with full frame bodies.
@@keystonebrotherb That is objectively untrue. There are plenty of lenses that are marketed and sold as "for APS-C' that almost (or sometimes completely) cover full frame sensors.
@@TechnoBabble
I have a few aps-c 0.95 lenses, and they still vignette. My FF 0.95 has almost no notable vignetting.
@@keystonebrotherb what do f/0.95 lenses have to do with anything? Also, unless it's the Nikon 58mm f/0.95, you're lying. Every other super-large aperture lens for full frame has very noticeable vignetting.
Viltrox 13.. 1.4 offers lenses with 200 PCS ($360) and infinity PCS ($381). What is the difference? Can anybody explain?
I posted this on an older video already but it's more likely that some on will read it here.
I need some help, i have:
Sony E PZ 18-105mm F4 G | OSS
Tamron 17-70mm F2.8 Di III-A VC RXD | VC
Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN | No stabilization
If you can only keep two, wich ones would you keep?
You only need to keep one and the answer is the Sigma. Tamron is 2nd place. The Sony is last.
@@ArthurR Thank you very much for you opinion.đ
Use one on Fuji - itâs superb and amazing value as well unless you need a super compact plastic lens this must be on your shortlist đđđ
Nice
Suddendly, a lot of apsc sony lenses... I'm missing another tele lens to compete with the 70-350, wish they announce smth similar soon
Maybe something better than just a F6.3 đ
PLEASE MAKE A COMPARISON VIDEO WITH SIGMA 16 MM F/1.4 AND SONY 15 MM F/1.4 sorry for the caps but really, please
Itâs like a Baby Sony G lens!
Hi Arthur, I purchased the Viltrox 13mm f1.4 lens for Sony, tested it on both my Sony a6500 + Sony A7c and found a bug that I believe is the result of faulty quality control:
I normally set my cameras to Aperture Priority.
The lens aperture ring is set to A.
I turn the camera on and the camera defaults to f/2.0 instead of f/1.4
when I turn the aperture ring on the lens back to A, it goes again to f/2.0.
of course I can turn the ring manually to f/14 - but it seems like a bug that could be fixed with firmware update.
I contacted VILTROX several times via email and messenger and they either ignored me or brushed me aside.
I also asked this question in the relevant DP forum, but nobody was familiar with this bug.
potential buyers ought to know this.
Maybe it's a faulty piece. I have another problem with Viltrox. I have a Sony NEX F3 and for me this Viltrox lens does not work with AF, only MF works. Other old and new Sony lenses work flawlessly with the Sony NEX F3 body. My body confirms the green AF, but the image with the Viltrox is not sharp, it is blurry.
If you want a clicked aperture ring, I guess you'll have to go for the Fuji X-mount version... đłđłđ
or buy the cheap and very good Samyang 12mm f2,0 MF for SONY E-Mount
@@Reinh4444 I have that lens in Fuji X mount but itâs a bit of a one trick pony in my opinion⊠itâs Ok for astro photography but not really for anything else. I was never really happy with any landscape shots I took with it.
And when the sun is anywhere in the frame, you risk getting ugly flares all across the image. Worst flare of any of my lenses!
Point stars / pinwheels are also pretty ugly with the Samyang 12mm.
So to me, the Viltrox 13mm is an improvement in all areas.
@@TimvanderLeeuw Viltrox is double the price of a samyang walimex12mm, so no fair comparison! Samyang/Walimey 12mm is one of my favourite lenses, but I mostly use it for architecture. Don't shoot astro, seldom into the sun. Nearly same price as viltrox is the new SONY 11mm which I would in any case prefer over the Viltrox.;-)
@@Reinh4444 Sure, the price is a valid argument. And when the drawbacks of the lens do not apply to your usage, then the choice is clear!
Architecture photography is something which I donât really do, so I didnât think to consider itâs merits for that usage.
The Fuji version has clicked Aperture. It is weird why they omit that from Sony version.
Probably because Sony cameras are more used for video than fuji cameras. De-clicked aperture rings are useful for follow focus systems.
This or sigma 16 for astrophotography?
I can't decide on sigma 16mm or Viltrox 13mm for video. Suggestions??
I would suggest the Viltrox because of the de-clicked aperture ring which is useful for video, i think the Sigma 16mm doesn't have aperture ring.
@@manuelyagui1920 is that so important?
I am more curious about focal length difference
It's Viltrox for the indoor use
nice
Fuji may have fewer lenses than the E mount and FE mount combined. However, they have the standard focal lengths covered. Sony still does not have a weathersealed affordable, modern and native 35mm equivalent.
No 23mm f2 WR like Fuji. No 18mm f2.8 WR. Those two are the traditional street focal lengths.
Sony does not realise they have a great street camera on their hands in A6400, hamstrung only by lack of any good lenses. The Sony 24mm f1.8 ZA is long in the tooth.
Such a shame.
Compare it to Sony apsc new ones.
35mm equvilent autofocus apsc prime lens needed!
That's also Viltrox 23mm f1.4
Song zeiss 24mm
Time to compete with Viltor 13mm f1.4 and Sigma 16mm f1.4đ
In terms of IQ it would ve interesting, but I assume, that 16 vs 13 mm is quite a difference, so both are made for different target groups
I love my 6600
Heck I wish viltrox would weather seal and Pro this lens up I would buy one that I could get wet :D
Not bad at all

I think its safe to say that this will replace arthur's "If I could only Have One Lens" pick. :)
This is great but the fact that the 6600 is discontinued and there is no replacement in sight, turns me off from and aps-c lenses. Having to choose between overpriced 6600 and a vlogging camera kinda sucks.
There is a replacement in sight! Have faith!

You are a "provocateur". It is not the first time I am using your advise buying photo gadgets. :)
This lens is obviously not sharp at all with the aperture wide open. I mean, come on.. I feel like you are being sponsored by these Viltrox, Aristan, etc brands.. Bought a manual Artisan lens based on one of your reviews. My actual experience with the lens is absolutely nothing like you described it. I honestly think you are sponsored by these brand and you don't mention it. Very not ok.
How is that obvious to you? Every single source says its pretty sharp. And same reviewers have critisized the 23 and 33 viltrox for bad CA. There is no logic to your allegations.
