"Griffin you should come in here because you're very pretty!" That was 100% Caboose. Lol
Jack died for 0.003 dollars lol
+theeshyguy1 Actually did the math to test that. Its true :D 0.003725 Dollars
+mc94mc94 The man with the button never decreased the amount of money gained or friends lost so Joel was still gaining half a million dollars by the time Jack came.
Zion Laguna I think it's safe to assume by how the button works that the price splits in half and twice the people die each time.
I agree with theshyguy1 here. Its obviously an exponential function. Everything else would be nonsense.
Besides Joel explains: Its like i get half the money but like twice the people die ?
And the guy doesnt object but simply states: "Thus increasing the chance of you killing someone you love" ... So it IS an exponential function.
A million dollars but...
+AMGwtfBBQsauce This is where it all began.
***** butt-ton of money
GODAMMIT BARB

AMGwtfBBQsauce GOD DAMMIT BARB
For anyone wondering he ended up killing 268,425,455 people before Jack died.
AlphaHunter That is wrong, because if you were to convert that to binary, you end up with 5 zeroes. Also, too small
No, because of the first person that died.
Ultimately the answer will be X = 2^Y - 1
Where X = Dead people
and Y = Number of button pushes + 1.
For example, X = 2^7 - 1
That 7 means that the button was pushed 6 times. 7 gives us 64.
X = 64 - 1
X = 63.
Now let's confirm, if the button was pushed 6 times, do 63 people die?
1+2+4+8+16+32 =
3+12+16+32 =
15+16+32 =
31+32 =
63.
Done.
So, Joel had the capacity to make the human race extinct and end all life in the universe as my math shows he would have killed ~1.17967x10^5457 life forms over the course of 5 hours (at 1 button push per second) For reference, the amount of atoms in the observable universe is estimated to be ~1x10^82. Now, granted, I failed calculus like 3 times in college so my math might be off, but the calculator doesnt lie...and he gets 2 million dollars for it :)
JKSSubstandard Technically less than 2 mil, unless he kept doing it for infinity, he could never truly get 2mil.
I rounded up by ~.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001...sue me
Fun fact, no matter how many times he presses the button, he'll never get 2 million dollars, but he'll have killed everyone on Earth after 33 presses if he knew everyone.
More like a depressing fact.

i think it sticks at 2 people and 500k
the original story is the button kills a random stranger that he will never meet or have met but he gets the money. the reason for how he gets the money is the button kills the previous person who pressed the button and got the money. so the cycle of killing only happens to those who have pressed the button
+ttrop I was literally just reading this story in English class, and this video made me die of laughter!
+ttrop Well, Joel should be fine. I mean by the end of the video, he probably killed off the planet's entire population, so no harm done there.
*****
its a stupid old folk tail, like the boy who cried wolf
+ttrop That is really, really wrong. You are giving the 80's "Twilight Zone" version (also similar to the version used in the film "The Box"), which really strayed from the original. The original "Button, Button" was written by Richard Matheson in the 70's, and based his story around a "moral dilemma question" asked in passage 1.6.2 of The Genius of Christianity, which was written in 1802, by Rene Chateaubriand, in which the authors asks the reader what he would do if he could get rich by killing a mandarin in China solely by force of will
In his story, the original story, the twist ending is different. Norma presses the button, and receives the money after her husband dies in a train incident where Arthur is pushed onto the tracks (the money was the no-fault insurance settlement, which is $50,000 instead of the $200,000 in the Twilight Zone episode, and the million dollars offered in the movie). Norma, now in despair, asks the stranger why her husband was the one who was killed. The stranger replies, "Did you really think you knew your husband?"
Matheson was actually extremely upset at the change from his original story, because the impact of the immorality shown was not immediate, and the person did not have to live with knowing that they killed their loved one, because they truly did not know them as well as they thought they did.
It was also adapted for a radio play in 1974, back when things weren't very PC, and titled "The Chinaman Button", giving a nod to the 1802 inspiration, but in this version the person would become unimaginably wealthy by anonymously assassinating a stranger.
While none of the versions were as good as the original story, they still had good moral dilemma questions in them, however, I feel that the original had the best twist ending. The moral wasn't really about getting the money, but about how well you know the people in your life.
You Spy On Me
i original heard the button story when i was in grade school in korea like 20 years ago, different cultures come up with very similar stories just because you found a story differently doesn't mean the way i heard it is wrong
Jack Lee - the chairman - is giving Joel Heyman - Caboose - a dangerous button!
This is awesome!
Ah. Chairman of the Oversight Committee Malcolm Hargrove and Private Michael J. Caboose.
Kartik Saraf rvb season 15 based on a button and caboose
@@HaloFTW55 I imagine The Chairman doing something like that, I mean why wouldn’t he, he let 2 goons keep their jobs after they failed by bragging about their plans
If double the people die each time he presses the button, and if he was pushing it for five hours straight then Joel must have a lot of friends.
this includes acquaintances also so yeah people know alot of people just saying :P
Does it include people you only said hi/good morning and walked off lol
Gavin and Gus clones
That or it still gives out the tiny amount of money even after you run out of people who you know.
Ikr LOL
That's a lot of dead Gavin and Gus clones.
Oh Gosh! your right! XD
Nice pfp
More like Simmons and grif
Was this the first A Million Dollars But...?
Damn right.
The Twilight Zone
RED MEDINA it's a million dollars but because everyone died before saying a million dollars button
...ton
it's a parody of a movie The Box
Joel is freaking hilarious, I love his reactions but more so that hint of Caboose in his voice
This needs more views, it’s comedy gold and ancient at this point
I agree
"friends cant buy happiness but money can" this is now my second favorite quote of all time
He killed the world in 33 button pushes and only got close to $2,000,000.
No, he got close to 3,000,000 cause he won the bet.
This is still the best RT Short, even after all this time. The comedic timing it just fantastic.
"Man, how am I gonna get rid of all these bodies? Oh, right, I know a guy. Oh right.....I _knew_ a guy."
That moment when the guy who voices Hardgrove looks like Hardgrove IRL
Well they did sorta base him on the actor in S12, but come on. Anyone who ever saw his face imagined him as Hargrove. Especially with the bald head we saw in 7.
I ain't surprised if that's actually Hargrove
GENIUS
One of Joel's finest moments.
OH MAN! I LOVE BUTTONS! Beep bop boop bop beep.
Wow! That actually worked great! Thanks!
Ctrl-F-U
computernerd1101 Tucker did it.
Dear Caboose,
I regret to inform you that your abuse of the assets we provided you will become the subject of criminal investigation, and I have been issued an arrest warrant for you by the UNSC.
When they write the new morality protocols regarding killer buttons, I'm sure they will name entire sections of the doctrine after you. Congratulations are in order, I suppose. You may earn your place in history after all.
Sincerely yours,
Malcolm Hargrove
P.S. Hrrg...bleh...
computernerd1101 Big words make my head hurt.
...he was making less than 1 cent per press by the time he killed Jack.
Additionally, by the time he kills Brandon, he's killed the entire population of Earth a few hundred thousand times over.
ExpressionOfShock no, Joel doesn't know all of the people in the world
ExpressionOfShock also the only things that are constant is that the money keeps getting divided in half but two people die, the cloak guy never actually said that the amount of people double up each time
brooksnake
Joel did, and the man concurred.
He said "But twice the people die".
Anything with Joel is instantly classic, especially the classics.
"dear director"
I imagine the 2nd person to die was Burnie.
Burnie: "So hey guys, for this season lets turn Church into Caboose's best fr-" [*dead*]
So this is how Malcom Hargrove made his way up the military bureaucracy.
I would +1
...
But im on mobile
Aidan Harris You can +1 now.
Joel was definitely on 'Caboose Mode'
When Joel yells and Caboose is free
Intro to Day 5
I JUST noticed how he shakes the iPad like the etch a sketch to undo
I just realised that in this short Joel just got a new iPad and he's shaking it like he was in the short where he got the prototype for the 'new' iPad.
I felt so smart after realizing that lol
Noooooo Gryffon!!
I miss these..
I forgot how great they were.
"Because that reminds everyone of pooping" Joel channeled some inner Caboose there
This was the first RT Short I watched, it's still my favorite, but "Fish Wish" and "Chain of Thought" are also strong contenders.
I love that Joel sounds exactly like Caboose when he yells.
Sometime during his button pushing spree, Joel killed Pyrrha.

I’m so glad this comes up in my feed every couple years.
I love how I watch RTshorts and Joel seems like a genius, but after listening to the podcast he's a crazy person.
Aaah the good ol days, I miss old school Rooster Teeth. Back when they were independent and didn’t have the filter they do now. So many of the people who were involved with RvB, Rooster Teeth shorts etc are gone now and the company is just a shell of its old self.
Yeah, I’m a new casual viewer to them and I wish they were more like the people I see in RT LIFE
i used to love rt and achievment hunter and even funhaus…after 2016/2017 it started to go way downhill. ray leaving felt like the catalyst imo
Yep....
This is one of their best shorts in my opinion. Joel did a great job, though I do pity his friends if he ever got a chance like this in real life. v.v
2021 gang, I really wish this button existed now more than ever.
I love how when he calls Griffin, he goes Caboose XD
I love how Joel says "It was probaly the smoking." it reminds me of the ways Caboose gets out of killing is freind!!
It's only now that I realise this sketch was set in 2020...
Chairman Hargrove and Caboose in between takes.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It’s Malcom Hargrove’s job after Charon industry
LMAO CABOOSE
I can only hear the chairman lmao
Love how Joel doesn't hesitate and just pushes the button xD
Best. Video. EVER. 😂😂😂😂
So...I just bought this button off of Craig's List...

Remember when Joel still showed up in roosterteeth media?
both of them laughing and cheering, then joel says "haha yeah, and a high button" fucken made me laugh
one of the best rooster teeth skits imo
Still my favorite one of their shorts!
Mathematically, he could only get 2 million dollars max.
3 million since he won the bet for a million dollars
Still one of my favorites
This first episode of "Million Dollars, But" isn't as fun as I thought it'd be.
Whoa, Joel must know occupants of few galaxies, because by the time that Jack died he pressed the button enough times to wipe out most of USA. If my math is correct 1+2^(n-1) for 1 is the first push and n=all the pushes, the number reached by 5th hour is unimaginable. Who knew RT community spanned that far.
It only kills people he knows so it would have ran out of people to kill
Sam McGrath then how did it last five hours before killing the button guy? Remember, they only have to be acquaintances.
Forgot Other Password They were complete strangers so it wouldn't have effected him until Joel considered them more than strangers
Sam McGrath By definition, an acquaintance is someone who you know slightly. As Joel has technically met the guy at the start of the video, from the point he introduced himself, however remotely they instantly became acquaintances. Thus it could have killed him at any time. It was stated in the video that Joel didn't have to know the person well to be affected by the button.
Forgot Other Password They were complete strangers though, they knew nothing about each other. Well maybe the button guy knew about Joel, but doesn't affect the game. Joel didn't even know his name or favourite colour or literally anything about him, I think that makes them strangers. Lets say I bump into a stranger and we both say sorry then go our separate ways never to see or speak to each other again, we would still be strangers right?
after pushing the button an infinite amount of times he will have $2,000,000
but an infinite amount of people will die meaning he will have all the world's money!!!!!
I mean technically speaking if the amount halves every time he presses it he won’t ever reach 2 million, he could come within millions of a percent from it but never exactly 2 million
@@Shank5ter did you consider the amount of money he may have had before which when added might Push him past the 2 mill mark
God I remember when this came out. Now look at em. 😭 Love this company
8 years and still great.
Joel killed many fans that day
Or am I dead 😐😐😐😐😐😐😐😵😇
Baconater0977 I never met him so I'm alive himself haha
There was nothing to suggest that the 3rd push or further will decrease the money even more. For all we know it would still be half million and 2 people die. The guy told him no one has even dared to think about pressing it twice so there's probably no rule for 3rd push+
No one could play this part better than Joel did.
Favorite short ever
Wait, is that the guy that voiced Malcom Hargrove?
Right, so-
By the time Jack dies, Joel has already killed 536870912 people.
Joel is a very popular guy.
Might explain why he keeps pressing it.
This really made my night LOL
I love this one.
MILLION DOLLARS BUT...
who's watching this 6 years later
I appreciate Joel trying to "undo" the iPad screen like in the iPrototype video.
Such a small detail!
My first ever red vs blue video 😢 I'ma miss them.
one word: Hyperinflation
also death
Haha... :D
+Carlos David You do realise he probably didn't even get more than $3 million.....
bgw316 Yeah exactly
Pongo brought me back here.
Nice pfp
JOEL DID WORST THEN CABOOSE!!!! 😂😂
Friends and Buttons and Money and they all go together
Those purples...
I came here to relive the company’s glory days before they sold out and became a huge production company.
Charon industries chairmans voice actor finally
Love Joel's shirt. Sheila is the second person Caboose loves most
I guess Joel doesn't know himself.
After 28 presses the total cash from each press is less then a penny but you almost have 2 million and it's only 3.6% of the world population.
"Hi button" always gets me
I've thought about it and this is the only theory that makes sense, the first press of the button gives him $1,000,000 and -1 friend, but every time after it is +$500,000 and -2 friends for every button press, that is the only way that the video makes sense
This short is based off a movie based off a short story based off an episode of The Twilight Zone...yeah wrap your head around that
I'm going to hell for saying this but....I would totally push that button, twice actually.
i'd push it 10 times, with my dick, yelling "fuck you guys, i have money!!!!"
Golden! Man time flies
Technically he did make $2,000,000. He made a bet with the guy that griffin wouldn't get to say "Button"
Was that a version of that film the box?
Is this where MDB originated?
No. The Twilight Zone
Noah Fulkerson wasnt the snail question before that?
RIP Rooster Teeth
someone got eager with that button
i love the caboose voice XD
Chairman?
Wow from people I know in reality to the hundreds of people I know online... If I did what he did and spam the button hundreds would be dead...
*Tempting so very tempting Lol*
This is still one of their best earlier Shorts.
Best one out of all of them
Is Joel immortal or something? I can't figure that out.
Trinexx360 he said it will only kill someone he knows, not himself
Youssef Akli
I ment by the fact that he apparently doesn't age.
But he knows himself better than anyone else therefore he kills himself since himself is someone he knows.
Do people normally age over the course of five hours? :3
