  • Between 1961 and 1968 Teeside photographer Ron Goult recorded an amazing vanery
scenes on the North Eastern Region of British Railways. The last duties of the Gresle
Pacific contrast with less glamorous freight operations on Teeside and Tyneside. Scenes
from the last decade of steam combine with modern comparison views to bring home ne
changing lace of the railways of the North East. This is the first of two volumes leaturng

I am sure I was born 20 years too late! Thankfully we have the work of Mr. Goult to appreciate better days.

Quality amateur footage such as this is invaluable for both those who missed the era and golden oldies who look back on those days with fond remembrance. Bless you for making this sequence available.
Congratulations on your excellent camera work. Most professional!

Ive lived right next to the Leamside (washington) all my life (40 years) and would regularly walk around down by the river walking under the Victoria Viaudct when the trains would go over the whole bridge would rattle. You could hear the garggle of the Diesels from my house. Me and my friends would walk up on the tracks and onto the Viaduct when trains were still using the line. Looking back now i cant believe how stupid we were and just how lucky we were to not get mangled. All of the track has completely gone now due to people stealing it for the scrap man and the Viaduct is fully fenced off and locked up at both ends. So sad to see her in such neglect especialy when you consider the class of locomotives that have crossed her. Fantastic video thank you for sharing.

I was rather young when I travelled in steam trains and those who were close to the engine generally looked worse for wear. Hence I wasn't very keen on steam engine. And was rather glad to travel in diesel and later electric. However now looking back I feel so foolish, at not realising those last few years of steam engine that will never come back. Similarly I remember those propeller planes hovering around before landing, yet all I wanted to see was the latest jets and above all the Concord, yet today I really miss those good days. I have hopefully learnt my lesson and today I value things which have served us well, instead of being eager to see the next new thing

The balance of steam sound and commentary is perfect , picture quality faultless and of course my time(early 60s)Doncaster being my preference. As an aside I am modelling Alnwick station and would love to see video (cine) do you have any. Thanks a pleasure to watch
