And... don't forget they are a three piece. Big sound from three amazing musicians.
...agree !🙂 rock on, greetings from Berlin
Les Claypool is a genius, Bass-oriented alternative metal band, formed in California in the mid 1980s, three very talented musicians ! good choice, but please try the videos !
Dog will hunt
Steamy!
indeed he will
Oysterhead is a band with Claypool and Stewart Copeland (drummer, The Police). "Army's On Ecstacy" is a drum and bass clinic. Trey Anastasio adds some sweet lead guitar.
Les Claypool is a master at the bass and the way he can sing while playing those riffs is crazy. I'd suggest checking out Here Come The Bastards, Mr. Krinkle, Those Damn Blue-Collar Tweekers, DMV, My Name is Mud, or Southbound Pachyderm
Also American Life , wonderful riffs
I'm glad you caught on to it Che, to me, their a great middle ground for my love of metal and jazz/fusion.
Thanks for introducing us to so much new music!!
PRIMUS SUCKS ❤❤❤
Saw them in 1992, 1993, and 1997. Always incredible!!
Similar, saw them in 91, 92x2, 93,94
Still have my "This band sucks bumper sticker"
Primus SUCKS!!!!!!
God I love Primus. You gotta watch a live performance, or their videos, to get the full-spectrum flavor of Primus. Try Wynona's Big Brown Beaver, My Name is Mud, Blue Collar Tweekers, or Southbound Pachyderm.
Live!
These are the guys who do the old South Park theme.
I've not listened to much Primus but I can definitely hear them in the South Park theme! Very cool
@@jaquestraw1 In the early seasons they even show a cartoon version of Les playing bass and doing his leg thing.
Primus always has people like huh at the beginning but the more you listen, the more you feel it, next thing you know you are infatuated! Can’t wait to see them live next month!!!!
Love me some Primus. Can't believe this is your first reaction. Seems most people only react to this song, but I would also recommend Pudding Time, Tommy the Cat, and Harold of the Rocks.
I became a fan after hearing JWRCD and Tommy the Cat back in the day. Tim's drumming and Larry's weird guitar compliments Les' awesome bass perfectly.
In my opinion top 5 bass players of all time. But the band deserves so much more credit tho
Saw them in Detroit with Anthrax and Public Enemy. GREAT SHOW!!! Thanks for reaction
Oof seen these dudes back in 98 at The Cains Ballroom in Tulsa. Great show.
you gotta check out their live album "Suck On This", which was one of their first releases. they start w YYZ from Rush.
saw them live in 95, they opened w Pudding Time, and they went into Love Rollercoaster in the mid during the solo. still one of the best concerts ive been to-to this day.
ELVIS COSTELLO. WATCHING THE DETECTIVES. FROM THE ALBUM MY AIM IS TRUE. BRILLIANT.
I bought their first studio album, Frizzle Fry in 1990 while in the Navy. I'll never forget laying in my rack, hitting play on my Walkman and hearing the weirdest, wildest, most fun music I'd heard in a long time.
Sweet! I've been a die-hard fan since the release of their first studio album, "Frizzle Fry". I was in high school back in the early 1990s and Primus was one of my jams. We used to play several Primus tunes in my band back in the day...so much fun to play. Those were great & fun times.
Primus totally deserves the track-by-track album treatment for their catalog (like you did for some of the other bands). They have so many hidden gems throughout their albums along with their great popular tracks.
One. Best bassist of all time and one great live performance and bands them at Woodstock was a great performance
@AirplayBeats
I wish you guys could do some 80s King crimson songs like elephant talk and model man
Send me the link in Patreon. We’ll try it
Elephant Talk. Three Of A Perfect Pair (album and song title). Great stuff with a Belew influence.
@@stewpot6998 Adrian Belew had an big influence on the talking heads also
Les Claypool is, of course, a big King Crimson fan - but doing CZcams reactions to King Crimson is very difficult, as DGM has locked down almost their entire catalog. There are two or three videos out there which DGM doesn't have the rights to, but all are pre-1980s. Be aware that almost any KC will be blocked on CZcams.
The bass line in this song (Jerry Was a Racecar Driver) is directly derivative of Tony Levin's Chapman Stick bass from Elephant Talk, and in a totally respectful form of homage rather than simple rip-off.
@@gradypatterson1948 in accordance to you mentioning the bass line, that is exactly why I recommend elephant talk. 👍🏾
Frizzle Fry is the album I go to when I need some Primus.
Anti Pop is a great album too
FF is still my favorite album.
That’s my uncle!!!
That’s awesome!!
Oh man lol Primis is a whole vibe sometimes takes awhile. Les Claypool is one of the best bassists in rock. Dude is 🔥
Great choice. Love this band.
I love that you are listening to Primus with a Tower of Power album in the background..lots of East Bay pride right there!
His voice is California Hillbilly. The northern coast from Marin to Oregon is way different than the rest of the state, but he's exaggerating it quite a bit. And he plays the bass a bit like a banjo so it fits.
He’s from the East Bay, Richmond, El Cerrito. It’s in the water see CCR
Keep the Primus coming boys!
Ok Bros, that was bad ass. 😎
Mojo Nixon...Elvis is Everywhere always comes to mind when I hear a Primus song...dunno why
I love this band. I saw them in LA many years ago, and they blew the house down.
Claypool has a project with John Lennon‘s youngest son Sean, and it’s absolutely worth checking out.
🕊❤️🎼
I saw them, with Helmet, in 1995 and it was phenomenal. Mushrooms helped.
@@hampyonceThat's awesome and I saw them also in '95 with Meat Puppets who I highly recommend. I was not on shrooms but I highly recommend them too🤓🍄
@@mattjohn4731 did they have "little people" dancing through the crowd in costumes, or did I imagine that part? It kind of freaked me out. I went and sat in the nosebleed rows and just listened and jammed. I was not in moshpit mode.
In case someone else hasn't mentioned it, Primus did the theme song for the series 'South Park'.
One of the best shows I ever went to was Primus as the headliner supporting this Sailing the Seas of Cheese album and Fishbone as the opening act: two absolutely crazy bands with their own unique grooves!
When l hear Primus, I can't help but think of Rush.. so much correlation.. very unique.. a touch of bizarre.. 😮
I saw Primus at Red Rocks the night before Rush and they covered La Villa Strangiato. They were in the middle of Southbound Pachiderm and Les' bass dropped off. So Larry and Tim kept it going then Les came back out and just started playing Rush. 2004. ✌️😅
I just think of The Residents. It's uncanny how similar Primus is to them, especially considering Claypool is a huge fan of them. Basically just an imitation of them, which lessens their creative output.
And also anything live at Woodstock 94 is golden. Definitely worth a watch
Great band. Legends.
You want to see a live performance of Primus, any track will do
Tommy the cat!
Never heard this before - loved it !!
Probably my favorite Pry Muss album... Love the way Lalonde plays "off-center"!
Yeah ❤Primus
Saw them live years ago. Crazy good, bare feet and hillbilly looking with a dude playing the jug. One of a kind for sure. Thanks guys
It's just nice to have bands around that will dare build a song around such an eclectic rhythmic riff
I got to see Claypool perform with Oysterhead, the super-trio with Trey Anastasio (Phish) and Stewart Copeland (The Police).
Damn. I bet that was amazing.
@@hampyonce It was funky psychedelic.
Saw them headline at Lalapalooza and open for Rush a few years later!
I love their videos.😂
Wynonnas big brown beaver.
My name is mud
The videos are great.
Tommy the Cat, Those Damn Blue Collared Tweakers, My Name Is Mud, Over The Falls…the list goes on
When this album came out all the rockin freakies where the wife and I are from, NYC, went nuts. I worked at a record distributor and this LP, Frizzle Fry and the rest broke wide open and sold tons of units proving that challenging well played music had fans and an untapped market. Their forebearers were bands like Frank Zappa, Captain Beefheart, the Residents, Minutemen and definitely the Butthole Surfers.
Most people write Primus off as simply "weird", but not you guys...which is why I LOVE your channel! Have a great weekend!
You have a great weekend as well!!
Now this is a good reaction. Most people just cant comprehend primus, but i can tell yall have some musical knowledge that allowed you to digest it and appreciate the talent. This is an amazing song, but they have other stuff that'll really blow your mind.
Primus is awesome. Lots of good stuff to listen to from them.
open up this rabbit hole please!!
The drummer kills it
If anything involving Les Claypool comes near your house; attend. You will not be disappointed. There will be some of the best muscians in the multiverse both in attendance and on the stage.
First time hearing this. Liked it. Again, thanks for getting me out from under that rock I was living under 😂. Appreciate the excellent reactions fellas 👌
Other great tracks of theirs to check out include: Those Damn Blue-Collar Tweekers, Too Many Puppies, SGT. Baker, Tommy The Cat, Here Come The Bastards, Fish On, My Name Is Mud, Winona’s Big Brown Beaver, and Mr. Knowitall
Try some QUEENSRYCHE FOR THIS LONG TIME SUPPORTER. Suite Sister Mary, Eyes of a Stranger, Lady wore Black, Queen of the Ryche, Jet City Woman
Yes, please 🎤🎸🥁🤘
What if Frank Zappa was part of the '80's King Crimson lineup? You'd get Primus. Video currently on CZcams with Les Claypool playing bass on stage with Adrian Belew performing Thela Hun Ginjeet, very cool!
Listen to King Crimson song "Elephant 🐘 Talk" and you'll see a big influence on Primus and Tool.
Don’t do a reaction to it, tho. Copyright mofos like a mofo
Wow never thought you guys would get a request for something like this 0:43 😅 Les claypool is a wild dude
“My name is Mud” live from Woodstock
OMG… do John The Fisherman!! Excellent song and video
The best crazy mixed band you could ever hear
Check out Claypool-Lennon delirium-Lennon being John's son Sean
Their Southbound Pachyderms encore at the House of Blues is almost better than the whole show. Peace/JT
That was wild! Thanks guys
You gotta see him perform it
This ENTIRE album is 🔥
Peace/JT
"Mr Krinkle" you will freak/enjoy the video (it's a must) just ask MrDirty
I saw them at the Orpheum in Bean Town in the early 90's. The second set Les came out with a six foot, stand up, lime green electric base and they played a bunch of Metallica covers. Prong was the opening band, hell of a show.
haha Primus this is going to be good
Les is a phenomenal musician. Great reaction gentleman love that you actually get into the groove. Quick question when do you guys plan on getting back to Zeppelin Song Remains the same album review just wondering it’s about 2 weeks or so since last time we heard anything from you. Keep up the spectacular work La/Cheezzz
Grew up in Georgia hearing "that dog'll hunt" !
Bad boi right there 😮
I need my black sabbath fix sirs lol!!!
If you dig this, Les Claypool did a project with Sean Ono Lennon called The Claypool Lennon Delirium... Lots of great songs and they were excellent live as well.
Go see Les Claypool live if you ever get the chance, he has several projects besides Primus but it is something to behold to watch him play the Bass
Reminds me of a rave...fusion, yes...
Les is an amazing bass player. I would also suggest C2B3 (colonel claypools bucket of bernie brains): Bernie Worrell (Pfunk, Talking Heads), Brian Mantia ('Brain' from GnR and Primus), Buckethead (GnR, himself). And Praxis, check that out too.
Do it!😂👍
Primus is not for everyone. I saw them live back in the day when they were the warm up band for Rush at the Miami Arena. I'd never heard of them and was on a date with the woman who eventually became my wife. At first, I was a little like OK what are they about and when they performed this song, I got it and was into them. My soon to be wife not so much but we got married eventually anyway, lol...
Annnnd I'm back in high school immediately. For some hot n fresh funk grilled to order check "Shake Hands with Beef" - video is a silly bonus, but not necessary
Check out their song with Ozzy. A version of NIB.
Yea man that’s is a must. Les goes off in that one ☝️
Lets go
Welcome to the Mosh Pit Fellas!!
Those Damn Blue-Collar Tweekers! Gotta see them live!
You will never hear a band like Primus (Prime-us) Les Claypool MUST be watched to fully appreciate his genius.
"Tommy the Cat" or "My Name is Mud" would be great for next tune.
Tommy the Cat is the best of this beast! Although, My Name is Mud is pretty spectacular!
Swollen Members - Faceless Kings. 🤞
Play "my name is mud" pure 🔥
Primus are the altoids of rock but, Instead of curiously strong they are Curiously funky, heavy, and country.
You need to listen to the Primus songs John the Fisherman, Harold of the Rocks, and American Life. You'll get a unique musical journey around the Bay Area.
love it. Do the ones that all the musicians were influenced by.
T-Rex jeepster
Les Claypool has advanced the bass guitar. Primus is killer live. Check out King Crimson Discipline era to see one of his influences. (surprised you haven't tackled them yet)
Love it, had you speechless.
People commonly called Hip-Hop a musical style based solely on rhythm or rhythmic interplay.
...but that was WRONG!: IT'S *PRIMUS*! 🤘🤘
Gentlemen, I saw Primus (w/the great Les Claypool) and this is a great rabbit hole to go down for sure! But I saw Primus as the opening act to this phenomenal group: FISHBONE!!! Reality of my Surroundings will have you saying “oooh weee!” Thank me later! Tell them Jesse sent you! 😂🤜🏿🤛🏿
Primus Sucks. I love that you're ready for these guys. You won't hear much like them until you listen to them again. But that's still just Primus. And Primus Sucks.
Metal jazz
Nobody slaps bass, like Les🔥🔥🔥. U need to check out, Janes Addiction - Been Caught Stealin'.
Greatest bass player EVER!!!
Are you sure you're ready for the fantastical rabbit hole that is PRIMUS?!?!?!?
Funk, jazz and metal had a 3 way at a carnival; equals primus
