Thanks Ash. That looks like an interesting set, and, at that price, it's perhaps worth modifying and finishing the picks. If someone bought me that set, I wouldn't refuse it. BTW, Qu is pronounced more like 'Choo'.

    • @formermpc10

Pass. Nice presentation (cardboard box) but lousy items.
As for the tools ... the picks are poor quality.
Also, it's really a pain to have to change the handle anytime you want to use a different tool.

an alternative handle you could use is an Exacto knife handle which is lighter and should be easier to tighten. if the pick is too wide to fit just lightly sand down the slot in the handle

I carry that cheap credit card pick set all the time and have had good results.
Had a look at the link and they do a six lock version (eight as two are double sided) but with it appears to not come with picks.
    Nice, fair review 👍🏼

When I started picking, some 5 years ago if memory serves (which as a great grandmother, it often doesn't), this was exactly the sort of thing I was looking for. Even after much practice, I'm not very good, but without see-through locks and other practice tools, I never would have been able to open my first real lock. This presents as a pretty high quality beginner's kit, exactly what is needed, especially if you are like I was and had no idea of how locks work at all. The leather case is especially nice as keeping things organized turned out to be pretty important to me as I progressed to more difficult locks. I'm still not very good, but I love sport picking locks as, being disabled, its something I can actually do.
P.s. Great video btw, as per usual Mr. Lock Noob ! :-)

For the price point and what it is, it doesn't seem that bad, certainly better than some of the crap out there. The pry bars and overall presentation would keep me from getting too disappointed if I had ordered it. Like you said, if you're willing/able to modify things it wouldn't be bad to give to a beginner who's just dipping their toe in locksport. Great review 👍

The old credit card set has helped me out in a pinch over the years.
These days there's a Night Crawler set with two extra tension wrenches in my bag and coat at all times,
but they surely serve their purpose when in need!

I actually might buy this set.
I like how the book and the locks are designed to go together, this would be an excellent introduction for someone new that has absolutely no knowledge of locks. Myself, I am very new to locksport but have researched lots and learned a lot of "theory" if not yet skilled. I do have the ability, time, and pacience to modify the picks, but what I like the most is that this set comes with top of keyway tensioners. I now own a few sets of picks but none of them or any I've seen ever come with TOK tension wrenches which I desperately need for some of my locks with short keyways.
But I would not call those acrylic locks "practice locks". They are way to easy to open, but they do make a nice visual aid for beginners to see how a lock works.

The last two half diamonds you could shave/round down the neck, sharpen the diamonds, slope the tips and make dimple picks. Maybe curve the bigger one to make a curved flag with a sharp tip for picking pin and pin dimple locks.

Don't sand or buff your acrylic locks (or any acrylic) if they're scratched or ruffed up. Use heat gun or a lighter to make it clear. It's how acrylic is finished in the industrial setting.

Interesting though, they sound pretty hard, based on the file sound. I am a bit surprised. They look like they are the same size as a standard craft knife. I would likely replace the handle with a plastic one for weight. Maybe the maker should also include a sheet of 220 wet &dry ; ) This looks like an excellent gift box. (duh, you said that at the end of the video) I would consider giving this to my college age grandson or my father as something to keep his hands busy. Much better than a typical puzzle, which once solved, sits on a shelf forever. I would, of course, thin and polish the picks before I would give them away.

The pictures in that booklet look very similar to the 'lockpicking overkill' booklet that you can download from BBs website.
