I think some saw this one coming. Had to do it because the piano part is favorite part of this entire track. Especially on the 2nd half, I think the piano wasn't used enough in the music for the first 2 series, only a few themes actually used it aside from the opening tune. I think that's why with Robert's Theme I used it to include to bring back the more acoustic sound from S1/2.

Ever since I first heard this as a child, I was fascinated by the synth bass accompaniment at 1:45. Hearing it without the lead has rekindled that fascination once again. It's amazing how the right synth can turn a dominant chord into something out of this world. Even with the retro revivals in this day and age, I don't think we'll hear anything quite as bold as these J6/J8 harmonies in the mainstream ever again.

Everything today is “Hey look I did an arpeggio with a lot of reverb, I am Stranger Things man, the 80s amirite.” Similar to the “cassette tape vibe“. It’s morphed into referencing a small portion of what people think it was, and not what it actually was. Hell, even the Jupiter 6 itself has been pigeonholed. “It’s the dark dystopian member of the Jupiter family“ like says who? They made it sound like a freaking orchestra in Thomas, just about the happiest sound you can imagine. Ok rant over.

@@KnapfordMaster98 Commercial attempts to recreate the past all too frequently fall on their face for lack of budget or time to do it right, whether it's music, film, or anything else. It seems to be getting worse as time goes on.
Granted, this is nothing new: The sitcom _Hogan's Heroes_ is full of 1960's fashions and hairstyles despite being set in WWII (though a _few_ episodes obviously make a better effort to be period correct). Then there's the 1973 film _Day of the Jackal_ - set in 1962, but there isn't a narrow lapel or tie in sight.
Going back to music though - Anders Enger Jensen here on CZcams is one of the many stand-out geniuses for brand-new, yet perfectly authentic 1980's synth compositions. Definitely worth a listen if you haven't discovered him already.
As for the J6 being "dark and dystopian" - that's nostalgia marketing hyperbole. It's the skill of the musician that makes the sound what it is; not the instrument.

Love Anders. Discovered him through the 8-but guy. Him and Espen Kraft are two people who really “get it.” Alex Ball is wonderful as well, though he leans more into the sound-design/experimental angle with synths. His Roland and Sequential documentaries are fantastic.
