Training a GSD to protect is like teaching a mother to protect their child. A police dog is different. A Family GSD will PROTECT with its life! Watch your dog's Body, ears tail back legs mussels if they tense up ears up, they are alert!!!! A Family dog pet I suggest a Female. . I had 5 all protected the Family one in Philly went Thru a screen door when someone tried to take two kids off the porch.
My ex Boerboel and my ex bullmastiff both were very friendly but even so my bullmastiff was a very Good body Guard and even so my Boerboel was warry about strangers in the street by looking at them then watching my eyes to have my opinion if something goes wrong or not with the stranger my corso was absolutely different character as a body Guard. Boerboel, it's first professional job is (Guarding, farming, homestead, for trapping and to ward off big animals). cane corso, it's first professional job (personal protection Body Guard, police work and Guarding ) Bullmastiff first professional job is a Body Guard personal protection more than Guarding a place. Their 2nd and other professional job needs few work efucation for motivation and it good to do a remind for it from time to time. But concerning their first professional role job it's in their DNA without few education work. I owned boerboel,bullmastiff and cane corso and I did after university 2 years school for dog's education in Switzerland one year theoretical by swiss doctors from university & another year practical by swiss & french professionals trainers.There is a difference between Guard and protection dog & will focus more about protection here. Boerboel is the best for farm.About (protection)cane corso is a(ultra) protection dog. Bullmastiff and boerboel are(very good)for protection. Bullmastiff is fantastic protector but I did not use the world(ultra) protection dog for him cause he neither growls nor barks only he do it if he is closed from the aggressive target and cannot reach it. So he always do his job in scilence but very good.I also did not use the word (ultra)protection for the fantastic borboel cause boerboel is (sometimes)a lazy dog for(Gurad) exemple if the door rings he may go to see who is there or he will relax and just watch you(very well) from far opening the door.So if something happend he may be next to your feet for (protection)or still watching from far so he needs more time to jump from his place to protect you in case he is relaxing and he did this case (not rare)but if you are in the street so he is by your side for (protection)specially cause he is on leash next to you. Bullmastiff & cane corso are both famous for the word (body Gurad dog)& the word(corso)in latin means protector.About (Guard)dog as I said borboel is more lazy like to relax (sometimes)and I heared this opinion from a famous Spanish professional breeder of boerboel too which breeds boerboel and corso even he prefers the boerboel.And my boerboel did the same.But bullmastif for exemple he (Guards)the car if you are inside to (protect)you but if he is alone in the car he may Guard it or not he more focus for protecting you than to Gurad.He is more professional as a body guard dog than guarding a place. One more point bullmastif and boerboel they like to analyse the cituation well before reacting for(protection)but cane corso do not take the risk if there is any potential dangerous so he react(more fast). Some aggressors escape from size,face of bullmastiff others get scarey but cause bullmastiff does not bark,analysis,the aggressor can stay in front of you hesitating to agress you or not for a while and if he do it bullmastiff react fast without hesitating, cane corso does not wait he does not take the risk plus he barks immediately.It is proved scientifically that dogs smell if the person is aggressive or not.About level of barking cane corso barks 3/5 Borboel 2/5 Bullmastiff from zero to1/5.So bullmastif is the best for Neighbour.Cane corso said to have the strongest bite force among them 700 psi.Boerboel is more stockier, more muscles than the others, in general males are between 70&90kg & few are 120kg.Bullmastiff male is between 50&59 kilos,i saw one 81kg, European cane corso male between 45 to 50 kg in the standard of FCI and can be 55 but Americain cane corso are heavier from 55 to 68 kg. I saw one 94 kg & a breeder tolds his male is 100 kg. A lot of dog handlers working with dogs every day still don't understand the difference between police dogs, sport dogs and protection dogs. Good to see someone take the time to explain. 👍

I’d argue to not get any breed like German Shepherd or Mal etc etc even if it’s alleged “show” line, because my show line boy is showing talent in both bite work and scent work..now, he’s still super young, I don’t know how this will all turn out, I’m trying to do my best for whatever the dog will be talented at, but, he’s a real handful, and I’ve got a terrific pro trainer helping me. And this is why working a hardcore rock solid Police K9 is a dream job. Work day in and day out getting bites a few times a week to going 2 or 3 months of no bites. Most suspects will not try to violently fight a police dog. But it will happen when a suspect will NOT run! Punch kick slam the dog against a car, break a wooden fence with the dog’s body etc This is why “protection” trainers need to do numerous a ride alongs with a busy urban dept K-9 unit to understand the reality of what a real dog is expected to do. Rock solid obedience combined with fight to your dying breath type of dog. I was blessed to have worked a owner raised trained (me) Dutchie in a violent gang drug infested urban city to understand the clear distinction between bite sports and real deal work. It’s like comparing weekend paintball league competitors to a US infantry front line Marine having to kill numerous humans each week, stay alive to do the same the next week. Your content is outstanding! Just a thought. Do ride alongs, sign the death liability waiver and see what REAL dogs have to do day in and day out. It will blow your mind! 👏

Yes many Dobies are great protection dog they have drive tenacity, common sense and a very protective nature in fact were genetically bred for protection for the tax man, and superior athleticism. Only thing they lack is PURE MASS. Having owned and trained Dobermans, GSD working line, Rottweilers and Malinios. They all have good drive good instinct and with good breeding a VERY STABLE TEMPERMENT and intelligence. I know many people prefer Dobies because the German SHEDDER has more maintenance and a slight shorter life span. I know Rotts fell out of favor for a time because when they CAUGHT the bad guy they did a lot more damage due to mass and bite force. Malinios are smaller square not as heavy but SUPER INTELLIGENT and over the top drive. They didn't get the name MALLIGATOR for nothing and they Absolutly REQUIRE every day excersize both mental and physical or behavior problems develop quickly all these working dogs NEED a job. All of these working dogs require early socialization and sound obedience training. Most are not suitable for first time owners in particular the Mal.
So I have found conflicting information and I wanted to see if anyone knew if Great Danes can make good Protection dogs? Ive been told their too nice to do protection training with....but in my research of them it sounds like their very loyal and protective dogs...so I'm not sure. Maybe it comes down to the individual dog itself?
My pup is on you if you come with in our safety zone..and 5 out of 10 people walking by he is on them as well..He is dog aggressive..but I live in Harlem NYC it is super dangerous in my neighborhood..we are playing on a real coarse every day..I have a 46 pound GSD named Tyson fury..

My Dutchie is crazy drive and crazy anti social. If I give him his attack command, and there’s no target in sight. He takes it out on anything around him. Trash cans, chairs, and stroller haha. I’ve seen him chase freesbies with a broken toe.. in lots of pain. Overall he’s an asshole

All of these working dogs require early socialization and sound obedience training. Most are not suitable for first time owners in particular the Mal.

Get a martingale collar if that is legal, and pop their collar. If it isn’t just pop the normal collar.

Ive been told their too nice to do protection training with....but in my research of them it sounds like their very loyal and protective dogs...so I'm not sure.

Protection is defence. Start your training in defence and not with sleeves. They target the man

You might have to be more specific. Malinois, Dutch Shepard, German Shepard all have breed specific issues.
Protection dogs not aware of their surroundings cause they’re to busy staring at the handler for a treat🤔
I have a German Shepherd Belgian Malinois mix is 11 months old he's Beyond sweet but I want him to be protection trained will he lose his sweetness entirely if we make him a protection dog

My Dutchie is crazy drive and crazy anti social. If I give him his attack command, and there’s no target in sight. He takes it out on anything around him. Trash cans, chairs, and stroller haha. I’ve seen him chase freesbies with a broken toe.. in lots of pain. Overall he’s an asshole
