    Why do I want to buy an airplane? Because I'm sick and tired of going to the local FBO after getting checked out in their airplane and never being able to schedule it due to weather or only being able to schedule it for one to two hours at a time as I have to take turns with the student pilots reserving the airplane for their flight lessons. I'm sick and tired of having spent thousands of dollars and a lot of time to get my certificate and only having just enough time to do a couple of trips around the traffic pattern to get it back in time for the student pilots next lesson. I'm sick and tired of the FBO telling me where I can and can't go and when I can and can't go. I looked into my local flying club and they have two nice airplanes, but well over 60 members for the two airplanes. I suspect I'll fall right back into that same trap again not being able to reserve the plane for any more time than a trip or two around the pattern again all after spending thousands of dollars to join and paying a hefty monthly fee. With that being said I fell out of flying a few years ago simply out of frustration because of the above stated. Got my med pass done six months ago and will be working on getting my flight review done next month. I had a good heart to heart with myself am I being realistic with myself as far as what airplane I want to buy. I just want something to knock the rust off and to go to some places within a few hours away. Something I can fly completely unencumbered and is ALL mine whenever wherever for a few years and then maybe up grade if the need arises, and if it doesn't than I'll just be happy to continue flying it. So the short answer of why do I want to buy......so I can fly!!!!

    Very good advice which also extends to why you want to fly? I have experienced a flight school that was very eager to cash me out after every training flight, but not once did the instructor ask me why I wanted to fly or my aspirations/motivations for flying. Not to mention the CFI who sees me twice a week at the school and has never ever spoken to me once.

    Living in San Antonio, my main 3 missions would be a short hop to Corpus Christi for wind surfing, Phoenix to visit relatives, and back to LA to visit the old stomping grounds. This all assumes I run into about $1.5 million. Less than $800k for the plane, and $700k to run it for 8-10 years. Oh and visits to Telluride and Sedona. This puts me in PA46 Jetprop Territory. I think.

    Thank you for the great video--you post an excellent question. The MOTIVATION for considering the large investment of an aircraft is everything. It is the test of who is just toying with the idea because they think it will be fun--or if they are able to articulate their reasoning to themselves.
    For me, owning (or joining a partnership with 2-4 other owners) is still a dream. But your video gives me strength that because I have a number of solid reasons (i.e. visiting family, short travel for business, vacations, etc) it will become a reality.
    And of course the bit you said about finding the right aircraft to fit your specific needs. There are so many different kinds of aircraft available with a tremendous variety of strengths in different areas--this is an excellent question to ask.
    Thank you again,
    Chris

    I own simply because I want to. I am a 57 year old , 34 years flying and counting with ratings and endorsements. I currently own a Cygnet SF2A and love it. Let's face it...most of our flying is done within 250 miles of home. Long trips are rare for again..most. On the occasions that they are done...flying commercially is still less expensive than owning. MUCH LESS EXPENSIVE than renting. Add to the mix inclement weather, wind, fog, etc and the old saying can apply " time to spare..go by air ". That being said... aviation unlike any other passion invokes a feeling that can only be experienced. We as AVIATORS fly because it adds life to our being. The comeraderie ( spelling? ) is a small but very important part of that. Sunsets, sunrises coffee by our airplane, breakfasts under the wing...you get the idea and if you don't then maybe aviating isn't for you and that's OK.
    In short...or long...we own because we almost desperately want to be able to walk around OUR airplane, get in and fly and leave others wondering about the grin on our faces and smile that never seems to go away.

That just wanted to fly from say Middle Tennessee to the coast occasionally and just take it up for The View most of the time. You know just to feel alive. Oh and the ability to have a couple passengers would be preferable.

    ANOTHER thought.
    It seems most videos about flying focus on the money and time investment it takes to get a license or own. Not criticizing this or any of the other videos but I'd like to add a perspective it seems is often over looked.
    First off... flying does not have to be monetarily expensive. The time it takes is individually personal. The money is not. There are MANY airplanes out there both certified and armature built that are excellent birds that cost no more than a good used vehicle. For the purpose here..under $25,000.00.
    Also there are different stages in licenses that are cost effective for even a modest income. HOW much do you want to fly? Enough to give up smoking, Friday night bars, eating out everyday...etc. If you want a commercial license...there is financing available. If you want to fly strictly for pleasure than my advice is go to a smaller airport, get an instructor that instructs because he or she loves teaching and wants to pass on their knowledge.
    Airplanes do not need all the electronic bells and whistles to to fly. Instructors are out there that having the student fly them for a coke..can teach far better lessons.
    It IS WORTH it if you find yourself looking skyward and dreaming. Those dreams can come true. I know...I experience them often and it ALWAYS makes me smile.

    I am blind and autistic, but I really love flying. The reason that I want to buy one: I would like to sit in it, started, and tinker with it as well as being able to fly it with somebody else navigating me of course, and there will be less chance of a rental guy catching me flying the plane. Also I would be able to fly it for whatever period of time I wanted. Instead of just having one hour, I could fly for two hours one time, and half an hour or 45 minutes another time. It wouldn’t have to be consistent.

  • @bozoclown1902
    @bozoclown1902 Před 7 lety +1

    Well I want to buy an aircraft because I was Googling Walter Wright Crane Hire and this video came up and ive watched it. When i worked in hirise construction i often designed and built my own paper planes to throw off of city skyscrapers. I once threw a toilet roll from the 50th floor of Rialto in Melbourne when it was under construction back around 1993 ish and realised then that any whim could make me consider aviation over construction.
    I don't have any money so can i just borrow a Cesna ? No cops can pull you over in mid flight to check your licence so do you really need to pay for all that training and licences ??? Surely it is the same as sailing, the ground is your enemy so dont hit it.

    visited your site, cute planes but no prices. Same with buying vehicles, I'm not initiating the sales call on a pretty picture or display. Agreed, just must know why you want an aircraft but do want a potential customer to call because you have a Cherokee piper? There are hundreds for sale with prices marked. Along those same lines is the search for CFI by Walter Aviation, I suspect all seasoned full time instructors expect to earn at least 50k gross annually yet you like to play the odds and find that one instructor who will submit an application blindly and work for cheap. You get what you pay for and honesty is always the best policy. Your presentation here is spot on but looking at your business profile it turn out to be pure salesmanship.

    what do you think of LSAs? Would you rather have a "regular" GA plane used? I've heard the LSAs are kinda shitty. I'm not too keen on all the technology that makes things "easier" either. Kinda like all the electronics on cars and sport bikes today. It makes for shitty riders. I've heard that an older Bonanza in good shape or something like that is built ten times better, flies better etc. The new carbon fiber stuff good on paper, but in real life, it doesn't really live up to the hype. I know they're cheaper to own and run supposedly. But for the same price, you could have a decent Mooney or Beech.

    • @WalterAviationInc
      @WalterAviationInc  Před 6 lety

      There are many great aircraft that have been around for a long time, and the biggest factor is how often they have been flown and how well they have been maintained. There is a lot to say for an airplane that has lasted for 40-50+ years and still gets the job done. The new LSA aircraft have many advantages, but tried and true doesn't hurt either! You are correct that there are many good old Mooney's, Bonanzas, etc on the market which would do the job just fine. It comes down to preference in equipment really...

    • @dangrbitch
      @dangrbitch Před 6 lety

      thanks for the info. Yea i get the impression that Lso's aren't really on the same level of some of the nice old GA planes. I've heard cirrus's are kinda cheap in comparative quality as well. We had a couple Bonanza's when I was a kid. Even now, they look like "money." I heard the LSO's are kinda dicey in turbulence, their flight controls are really light and lacking in feel. There's apparently been some complaints about that among Cirrus pilots. Everything is just kinda wussy and I doubt they'd hold up as well. They remind of an eye catching, cheap, trendy little sports coupe trying to be on the same level of a slightly older porsche 911 gt3. It just isn't.

Otherwise a Cessna 414, 310, 320 or Beech Baron. definitely a twin. overwater and engine failure is no fun. figure your operating costs before you take the plunge. All this business about the hourly cost of flying when you own, verses renting,... is nonsense. There is so much more value to consider in owning besides the "hourly cost" of actual flying. Owning your own personal airplane is actually a way of life that you can't really put a cost on. If you don't see it that way, then you either don't truly have a love of aviation, or you simply can't afford to own a plane.
