I always appreciate how you’re able to articulate what you don’t like about something instead of the generic “this looks weird” or “they could’ve done this better”. Shows you are informed on what you’re talking about, thus giving your feedback real validity
Totally agree. Some people talk about upcoming sets and just write them off completely because it doesn't match how they think it should look even though they have no idea about the actual subject matter
🙌 that's why Jang's one of the best
@@joevictor53 yeah happens a lot with Star Wars. Some people only remember what the lego versions look like, so when a new set comes out that is actually more accurate to the on screen model, they complain.
As far as I know, the NASCAR set is not based on any specific paint scheme. That is to say they might run the scheme for a one-off thing, but I think the LEGO group was trying to make an eye-catching scheme that didn’t run the risk of getting into any trademark/copyright issues. Kinda like how the wheel covers just say “CHEVROLET CAMARO” instead of Goodyear.
That being said, licensed actual NASCAR cars sound awesome, though I'd assume the main issue would be that such products would mainly only appeal in the US market
Is there a no.94 car in nascar? I don't know the discipline well enough, but I think they adopt the franchise mode where the car no. sticks with a team rather than the driver, right?
They REALLY need to Color Match the stickers well this time.
Going to be very important for that Camero.
Perhaps you could use the windscreen from the Ferrari F8 Tributo? That one doesn't have the bottom part of the side windows printed.
You could but unfortunately it's the wrong colour
@@prateek523 It's the right color but just not well printed
@@reidledgerwood736The color of the piece itself is trans brown whereas this is trans clear. Obviously the print is right 😅
...I can't even drive, have never bought a speed champions set, but you bet I'll watch Jang talk about Lego Cars for 10 minutes. Great video as always 👍👍
This is a good sign. There are many 6-wide models that can be remade besides these two (three counting the mustang). The chiron, the porsche 911, the corvette etc.
@@TimL_ please I’m hoping for the Chiron and 911 🙏🙏
thank you for having reference images handy!! too many reviewers assume the audience already knows or they mistake their own knowledge for colloquial knowledge, as a visual learner it is UTTERLY appreciated that you aren't afraid to show something that isn't JUST the thing you're reviewing for the sake of our clarity. much love!
The side windows are bad indeed, but somehow I'm more concerned about the gaping holes where headlight glass should be.
On the F40 they definitely printed it like that so that it would match the rear side windows. Could've been better though.
Agree with the side window criticism. If you do paint a second one would love to see a video of that process and a comparison of your version to LEGO’s version.
I'm so glad for the F40, we really need more old cars.
I'm more bothered by the nose on that F40: a midge too long, a bit droopy though depending on the angle it's alright and those opened lights, that's a lot for the same area.
Love the color scheme for the Camaro though between that very flat and squared hood and that also very flat back, it doesn't do it any favors.
The older F40 did look good enough, but this one really captures the shape and style. Its instantly recognisable, whereas the older one was a bit too boxy, with the limitatiomns of design at that size.
Shame about the canopy print design... I really hope they colour match it, else that canopy could be the one part to ruin the whole set.
As a NASCAR fan, I’m glad we have a Cup Camaro.
About this scheme Lego made: The scheme is not related to any run in the past 3 years this Next Gen has run as far as I can tell. I think it’s trying to emulate Jeff Gordon’s DuPont flames scheme from his tenure in the sport. I only say that because Gordon began running flamed DuPont cars in 2001, and those have a fairly similar look to this design. In recent years, the flames have returned with William Byron. Hope that helps
I can't wait to use the stickers from the NASCAR Camaro for Space Police III biker gang mocs!
Ferrari Window
I guess they had to choose between making the window taller (remove the red side print) versus making it line up with the rear triangle window sticker.
Hey Jang, NASCAR guy here. The set is not based on any real car that has ever run, that is just a generic design that was created specifically for this car. The number 94 is what NASCAR usually tends to go with on any merchandise that features an unbranded car. There are some design inaccuracies with the set, such as the hood shape being raised rather than indented, the body not being flush parallel to the ground, the spoiler being all clear when they are only partially clear when used at specific tracks, etc. This set also re-uses the wheel cover piece from the 2019 set, once again reading Chevrolet Camaro instead of Goodyear Eagle, but even more inaccurate now since NASCAR Cup Series cars use a new kind of wheel more akin to the tires on open-wheel cars.
The sound of Tributo windscreen part prices doubling (again)
YesssSSS!!! I cannot wait for these to be reviewed. 100% adding these to the collection!
Hey Jang. If you have the Speed Champions Ferrari F8 Tributo set, you could use the canope for that set on the F40 and see how it looks! And also, love your content❤️
I bought the f40 last night, and there are definitely some awesome techniques used. The sides tapering in, the exhaust at the rear, the clipped on side panels adjacent to the tail lights, and how the central hood bit lines up so well with the wheel arches. But yeah, the side windows and spoiler are a bit goofy.
But the absolute biggest glaring flaw that pretty much made my jaw drop was the large side inlets. There's nothing behind the opening, so not only can you see inside the car, you could look THROUGH the car to the other side.
I really hope Lego uses the F40 canopy piece to give us a minifigure scale BTTF Delorean as part of Speed Champions. I have the old one but it's very outdated and the Delorean would be a great car for the movie/TV car subtheme. Not happy about the colour difference between the canopy and the rest of the car. Also did Jang make a Matrix reference when he was talking about the window?
In the comparison between every lego F40 release to date, everyone forgets to mention set number 30192 (which I personally own). It was part of the first wave of lego SHELL promotional sets in 2014. It would be great if Jang included it in the upcoming review of the new F40 set where he would compare it to all the older versions.
I like the F40, a lot. I think the only thing I'm kind of iffy on is the headlights being sort of caved in vs flat
The NASCAR one has a livery created by LEGO but it seems to be inspired by a livery that Jeff Gordon used and it looks even more like a William Byron livery, I'm not sure if this likeness was intentional.
Also the two cars used the number 24
For the F40 one could easily make a clear cover for the headlights using a thin plastic sheet and a 5mm holepunch, and clamp it under the 1x8 and 2x4 tiles of the front hood.
I love how colorful that nascar is! When available in my country, I will try to buy it n.n
look closely to the orange engine hood of the nascar car, it looks like jigsaw puzzle made of all modern tiles :P just like tile mosaic :P
The camaro looks preety good imo
Totally agree about the F40. I think there's a bit too much attention given to direct translations versus stylistic fidelity. The canopy shouldn't have had a side print even if it meant giving the side windows an unrealistic step. The transition from window to sticker already undermines the sense of accuracy anyway. I also wonder if black would have worked better for those side slopes but maybe not.
CAMEL and “Smoking Joes Racing” had livery similar to this, but that was back in the 90’s before they terminated smoking from NASCAR
Is it possible to use a pencil eraser to abrade off the lower section of print to open the window up a bit?
I am hopeful of that round middle piece being a print. I love the SC line, partner is a nascar fan (yes I just admitted to that) so I guess I may get him one too
The F40 is absolutely gorgeous
Those nascar colors, dang this is awesome
I feel you with that F40 window piece, but still my inner child really likes this model.
Jeff Gordon driver #24 Chevy. His car was always colorful.. so they just did whatever they wanted and put it #94
Once you have a customized version of the Ferrari it would be fun to see even just a two minute video talking about what you did to mark the changes and showing how much of a difference it makes.
The 6-wide nascar camaro looked better than this one. The proportions just... felt better.
That F-40, though. Day one buy.
I’m so glad they finally are doing another camaro, it’s been so long
Maby try using the windsheild from the f8 tributo because it has just a small red strip on the bottom and you can use the sticker thats on the side of it to match the size of the windshield thats just a suggestion
Hmm fully clear canopy piece and custom stickers is probably the move.
You can use the F8 Tributo Speed champions canopy... its clear all the way down
I will probably be swapping the canopy piece from the f8 tributo onto the new f40, even if the rear window won’t match perfectly as a result.
NASCAR looks amazing the Ferrari side window quite small great preview jang 👍
the Nascar one is very cool, i won't put any stickers and it will look like a video game car...
that 6 wide looks like a typical lego city car lol. Infinite improvement.
Use canopy from f8 tributo. I’ve ordered one already for when this is launched
Just grab the windshield from the older F8 Tributo and you´re golden.
Omg i totally missed the new hubcaps on the ferrari
The windscreen piece for the Ferrari F8 doesn't have any red printing on the bottom of the sides, making it have much bigger side windows. You could maybe use that piece instead of buying an unprinted part and painting it.
The Camaro looks good for what it is but I really want to see a plain black one or some other non-stickered up version
I have the old one and have considered selling it multiple times. This new one aint perfect but it is so so much better
Hate to see speed champions being hindered by LEGOS stubbornness when it comes to printing
I like it too,it’s different.
Both cars look great but being a big nascar fan I’m let down since I finally figured out why I didn’t like it as much as I wanted to it looks like a truck style car because of how tall the windscreen piece goes up and how low the back end is compared to it so to me it looks more like a truck series vs the next gen car for the cup series
@@BJ-jh5is my problem with it is the back for me
The nascar set has been at my local Walmart for at least a week now, I didn’t realize it was an Aug 1st set
“not like. not like this.” - the matrix
I think the car Is based on the Kaz grala's 2022 Daytona 500 race car
While both cars look great and pretty big improvements over their 6 wide contemporaries, Lego really needs to consider a new Windscreen piece that angles all the way down like a proper side window should on most cars. The mirrors or the F40 are a nice deviation from the usual studs not on top technique with cheese slope/corner tile but not sure what the piece is. I'm thinking phone but not 100 percent.
It looks like you might be able to take the windscreen from the F8 Tributo which does not have side printing but it's a tinted piece so... still not exactly a good solution.. bummer that they missed such a critical detail. I understand trying to get it to line up with the rear sticker but sacrificing the entire look of the car for one bit of continuity is a strange choice from the team. I'll likely just swap all of the clear elements for tinted and use the F8 windscreen myself. That or try to remove the print from the side.
Was kind of on the fence for the NASCAR Camaro, but this made me appreciate it a bit more and I think I will eventually pick it up but will wait to see if it goes on sale anywhere first. The Ferrari is a day one pick up for me though!
I love that paint scheme it's sooo 90s
"Look at it! Look at it!"
It's kinda hilarious to see Jang blow a gasket about a little detail that really stands out to him. I do that when I see something that pretends to be nerdy and gets the details wrong. I couldn't watch a single Big Bang Theory ep without getting angry about some detail they didn't care about.
I think there should be a convertible version with a Magnum PI minifig.
I'm not fond of the colors of the Nascar, but I bet the build is amazing, like most of the Speed Champion line.
_blows a gasket at the idea of confusing a 308 GTS for an F40_ ;)
The F-40 looks fantastic! Love the colours on the Camaro but it looks a little bit too boxy for me, especially at the front
Now that the F40 has been remade i hope those Mustangs, Senna, Chiron and 911 Turbo all get remade.
The Camero NASCARs colour scheme looks horrendous, there's just too much bombardment, however I could buy one and just change out the colour scheme with parts from my own collection I'll do the 2018 ZL1 but in orange/yellow and black.
It looks derpy and I like it for that.
For this time I wish there was no side printing on the window piece.
Hi, jang, would it be possible to post a picture of the modden windschield and window once finished
First time I've heard the phrase "distal taper" on a CZcams channel not dedicated to swords and martial history.
Once I read the rumours about the F40 I was hyped, but when the actual set was revealed I simply got a used 1/18 diecast bburago for half the price this will cost. Lego ask too much for 17 stickers on a single-coloured car and the terrible print quality on the canopy.
the f40 has trans-clear instead of trans-black, which makes it look worse IMO. still cool but also no headlight cover for the headlights. bit weird
I do think the clear is the right call, though. IRL the molded polycarbonate engine cover is iconic and completely untinted, critical for authenticity IMO.
I enjoy the NASCAR one. Like the color scheme even though it seems like I shouldn’t
You could use the f8 tributo windscreen
I think the next evolution of speed champions HAS to be the windscreen. It doesnt seem like lego is motivated at all to change their printing techniques, so maybe the workaround would be not relying on printing at all and do a brick built a-pillar and roof? Would be a huge design challenge but we've seen incredible things from this line already. And we know they are not afraid of new molds.
Thank you for the reviews
why didn't they just keep the F8 Tributo canopy? that was colored PERFECTLY for the F40. why did they have to add the extra printing down below???
Please show your version of the F50 when you buy it.
Lego printing on the side of slopes for the headlight area but cant print the windows 😂
Hope they also remake the Chiron as an speed champions.
Personally I think the tall windscreen on the Cameron is worse than the small window on the F40. Would it have been better if there was no printing on the side of the windscreen?
Looks like the old color scheme of the Smokin' Joe's racer (Camel Cigarettes)..
Not like this… not like this…..😂
@@andrewepp6763 “Every time I look at it, it’s… worse. It hurts”
I don't think I would have put on the sticker on the side behind the rear wheels - I think it's too visible and makes the fact the panel sticks out when it shouldn't more apparent. I won't because I won't get it. They have to do better with the canopies. It's sad, because I agree with Jang that most of it is really good. As it is I'll pass.
Sure wish they’d bring the price down too all speed champions to $20-24.99 range like they used to be!
@JANGBRICKS, I wonder if just giving it the Ferrari F8 Tributo windshield would look better?
It's always the windscreens/canopies, they bug me a lot too. Have done so for a while. It's a combination of those being bad, both in shaping and printing, and everything else being so good that it really shows what's bad. Printing color match especially is just embarrassing at this point. Love speed champions, but for the prices they ask quality really needs to take a step forward now.
Speaking of new pieces, are those new pieces on the hood as yellow, that 1x2 half circle as well as that 2x2 dog bone shaped pieces?
I'm more wondering if there's a way you could mod the F40 not to use the wheel arch mud guard pieces because on the F40 the arches are flat against the side of the car.
Lol the side ducts on the F40 are just holes into the interior
And this I forgot to mention…custom wheel covers. My zillions of prayers have been answered!
Dang it!! That Ferrari F-40 is just about perfect!! The side window is not right!! So close though! Not crazy about the Nascar ZL1, I know it's supposed to look like those racing cars, but it's not my cup of tea.
The Ferrari might finally be the one that makes me accept 8 wide cars. The window is absurd indeed though lol
They’re both really good
It's looks more like a F40 Kitcar/Replica with those proportions.
This looks AMAZING (apart from the obvious window 😭)
It's the F40's headlights that look weird to me, them being open like that just looks so off and not right
They should have just reused the canopy from the Ferrari F8 Tributo.
I don't get why they couldn't just not print that bottom half of the screen. we've had issues with not enough printing before now we get too much printing!?
I havent bought a speed champions since the switch to 8 wide
