- In this video, I study Rohena Gera's film 'Sir' with a special focus on scene blocking. What is scene blocking, you ask? Watch the video to find out.

I saw this movie when it came out in 2018. Tilotama Shome is an incredibly talented actress who adeptly portrays even the most subtle emotions, such as a smile... it's as if she tailors the length of her smile to fit the character. Anyway, I admire how many key moments in this film were deeply explained, which I had overlooked due to my lack of understanding or limited knowledge of filmmaking. Great job! Lots of love.
The way she talks, walks, emotes, carries herself, you'd think she is someone from that "class". The tension, hesitation, insecurity...she conveys all of that so well.
The reason she calls him ashwin according to me is she finally thinks shes equal because of her job she finally felt she has achieved something which is acceptable according to the societal standards she feels that she is equalent to his level of hierarchy and she has achieved something she feels this can be accepted by society hence they can both be in a relationship notice how ratna do not care about the societal standards in the beginning when she comes back to work even after Ashwin's fiance is no more but gets a reality check and then again do not care about society despite caring about society there are lot of layers to this beautiful movie
Felt like a love letter for the movie ❤
This film has my heart. It's simple in it is potryal but yet it's effective the Simplicity to show class levels is beautiful.
You made me cry..why do you write so beautifully?
Not convinced that she is ready to love him, though that would be the expected romantic end.
What is obvious is that she finally feels like an equal person. Maybe all it is is a sort of gratitude, Ashwin showed her that she is capable of being seen as an equal and created the opportunity for her to become one.
Wow! What a narrative, so different and beautiful.
I watched this movie long long back and i recommended everyone to watch it. This movie touches your heart with its characters, narrations, performances, subtilty and most importantly it's own pace. You will feel for this movie, it doesn't rush nor tries to prove any point. It just uncovers a layer from our heart and makes us feel good about them throughout the journey.
Beautifully enunciated. You've made me compelled to check the film out by the power of your storytelling!
loved how you interpreted the details. This is one of my favourite films to watch. How subtly the society always reminds you of your class and how difficult it is to emerge from them. I am still not convinced that she is ready to love him back but perhaps this is finally a sign where she acknowledges that he truly loves her and has risen from the shallow societal norms of class divide. Her calling him by his name is the most important scene in my pov where she considers herself as an equal - perhaps not in class yet but equal as a person, maybe even as a friend. Not lover yet but just a small step that shows that you have to consider yourself equal to your potential partner. That's the first step of falling in love. Nobody's above each other in a relationship. There's no class divide, no income divide. Just equal partners in ways more than one.
I watched this movie a few weeks ago and I absolutely loved it. I liked it better than any kdramas.
where did u watch
@@harshithaparshetty2559 its on netflix i guss
Poigance of 'Sir' just improved for me. So richly described! ❣️
I loved the movie in first time but after this , I'm blowned by the perspective of shots. You are great
I recently watched this movie and loved it a lot..you have captured the essence of distance in each frame so beautifully..loved your breakdown! Amazing job 👏 👏
Fantastic movie. Fantastic analysis.
Framing and lighting are often overlooked as storytelling instruments by Bollywood directors.
So glad when a director utilises them properly. Even happier when someone talks about it with such verbosity and passion.
this is so well articulated, in one the core papers I study at university, we have a concept namely space by henri lefebvre and the front and back theory by goffman. this movie is the perfect example for the analysis. 10/10 presentation
Amazing how you notice the minute details!!! ❤❤❤
This is a movie which I have watched like more than 10 times.. the narration felt so warm… amazing work.. ❤❤❤
Never knew such a great movie existed. I watched it right awaya and loved it!!Thank you

Really a beautiful narration
wow what a artfully narrated story.
loved the way you explain... 👏
Wow.....Wonderful Explanation 😍🥰
Just wonderful.
Great one! ❤
Beautiful narration ❤️
Commendable narration.
The review - Top order / Meticulously captures both, the nuances of content & the thoughtfully executed process.
The film reviewed - Though genuine, is detached. More Madrid than Mumbai !
"Ashwin" watches this film in Worli - All cool ! ... "His parents" watch it in their South Delhi kothi ! - Phone call to Ashu beta - Maid fired
* Not exactly a shot in the arm for social mobility now is it ! / If 'films don't impact psyche"......."Animal types", should't upset.
This is my fav film ❤❤❤
Thank you for this insightful analysis. 🙏

@@Aishu_Mech thank you for replying but this is not available on Netflix rightnow
fair use ? copyright strike ? kya ...
0:14 can someone please tell me what ad it is? i can't find it please!!!!!!!
It's not an ad. It's from the short film Juice. Available on CZcams. I have also done an analysis of it which you can find under the 'Live' tab on my channel. :)
I think it is possible in India only because it's a poor country literally and metaphorically, you don't see this type of films from developed countries as they have their dignified lives as cleaner or servants. We have of economic inequality and per capita income so low that it allows this kind of situation. But one thing I can't make out of riches, "if you talk of manners and etiquette all the time, why can't you show it to your househelps ?"
I partly agree but it is true for many other countries as well. A good portrayal would be the one in Parasite by Bong Joon Ho.
@@Cinemawali No you're right but in other countries the case will be of class division only but in india there is also an angle of caste and untouchability strikes through.. and yes probably in everywhere there will be some classification based on economic strata, but what will be the relationship that is to be a matter of exploration
Is it anyway linked to postmaster by rabindranath tagore, ratan as ratna here?
That's a nice observation! It could be.
@@Cinemawali may I know what's yr profession?
Tilottama Shome 😇 ... not konkana sen sharma
Are you talking about The Mirror? The director of that short film is Konkona Sen Sharma. :)
Even though the film was very professionally made, it didn't work for me, reason being their coming together the first time jumping the chasm between them didn't feel earned. The chemistry didn't work too. That is why when she finally calls him by his first name on the terrace, I didn't feel anything.
Some of the shots also felt a bit pretentious, I don't remember much but the one with night city shot, outside the balcony, where the camera lingers a bit much outside.
Presented by Shiney Ahuja
