normal people is one of my favorite books i think it’s a great character study and it shows miscommunication in a very real life way and isn’t contrived just for the plot
I think it's normal for book tastes to change over time. The more genres you read or explore, the more you realize what you like. Even within a genre, the taste is different, and that might come down to stylistic choices the author makes or the tropes that are used. It is sad to go back and read books I loved before sometimes though because now I'll be like....why did I like this, lol.

i really like the way it was written, and some of the quotes were really beautiful... but I felt like the actual story/plot was not my favourite.. like the main problem was miscommunication throughout the whole book and I didn't really like that :)
@@ellasheehan that’s totally fair! i usually hate miscommunication but in this book it felt so realistic to me. it didn’t feel like a trope or like it was only put there for conflict.

i really like what you said about not applying the same lens/expectations to different book genres. I feel like there is a segment (probably small) of romance readers who tend to see romance 'tropes' in another type of fiction and then dismiss it for that reason (ex. "oh this is enemies to lovers I don't like that trope").

I love rereading books. It feels like coming home❤ you also usually see things WAY differently after knowing everything so seeing foreshadowing of things is quite amazing
I just rewatched Normal People last week! I loved that book when I first read it, and I want to reread it soon as well. I also finished Conversations With Friends this morning. Normal people is the perfect depiction of fear of vulnerability and wanting someone, but being too scared to lose them. So you take them in whatever capacity you believe with keep them in your life. Instead of being honest and risking that person leaving a huge absence, you convince yourself that whatever will allow them to stay in your life is enough for you.
If I read Normal People I definitely wouldn’t have loved it (and literary gotten a tattoo dedicated to it) when I was a teen. Reading it in my 20s changed me as a person and is still my favourite book 4 years later and I reread it every year. I relate to Connell so deeply. Glad you gave it a second chance!
Just finished reading normal people for the first time after years of putting it off. I didn’t like the book I thought it was really boring and got repetitive. Then I watched the show and it made me like the book/story, so everyone should watch the show after

I love these type of videos!! I think for me, timing is everything when I’m rating books. I read the midnight library when I was in a very low time of life, needed help, got a new mental diagnosis and meds, and it absolutely changed my life and outlook. Five stars. But if I were to read it now, I’d be like “ok I get the point wrap it up” I got out of a reading slump in December and the book that got me out, Lovelight farms, got a five star! My friends were like “??? It was cute but five stars?”

I reread books all the time but usually only once or twice the exception is Harry Potter which I’ve read over ten times and started another reread where I’m finally annotating them for the first time! Also what is the point of owning a book if you aren’t ever going to read it again? Isn’t the point of having a physical book is to read it? And if you read it and then love it wouldn’t you want to reread it someday? I guess my thoughts are what’s the point in owning a book you don’t like or are never going to read/reread? So you can have a big library or something cause if so that’s kinda dumb! Wouldn’t you rather have a 20 of books you love versus 200 you don’t! That’s just my thoughts on books!

It changed my brain chemistry and made me realize a lot of things, I often relate with you and your book tastes so I was kind of shocked that you didn’t liked this book so I’m sooo glad that you give it a second chance

Literally me! I read "Normal People" at the same age as her (17) and I didn't like it. It's been about two years since then, but I don't think I'd like it even now. Funny enough, I've read all the books (when I was 17) in this video and I feel the same way as she did before her reread. I didn't like "Normal People", felt indifferent to "People We Meet On Vacation", and loved "The Midnight Library".😂
If you haven't already read it, you should read the Perks of Being a Wallflower. I think you would really like it and it's a classic/literary fiction
Normal People was a book I read like two years ago. I had no idea how to feel about it when I finished. I didn’t know if I loved it or hated it. But it has stuck in brain as a book that I am always thinking about.

I just reread Stephen King’s The Stand. I read it like…25 years ago when I was 19. It totally held up. Maybe a 4.5 instead of a five, but I left my rating 5 because of the way the book stuck with me all that time.

Absolutely! You definitely don’t realize that until you have more life experience. I totally wouldn’t have jived with the book in high school or maybe even beginning of college.

@@taryndancer29 I hope you like it! I didn’t necessarily relate to the characters very much but I can appreciate their relationship dynamic at this point in my life (25). A few years ago I wouldn’t have liked this type of literary/contemporary fiction at all.
