That would honestly be ideal, VMs run like shit, especially the kind Joel is using, VirtualBox runs like shit. It would be much better to run them on real hardware or better yet, use a "computer condom" as Joel basically referred to it as but use a KVM virtual machine and 2 graphics cards so you can make the VM directly access one of the cards, allowing it much better performance. I believe you can do the same thing with a multi CPU setup on servers as well.
