A lot of people have purchased this camera recently. There are ways to get some high quality videos out of this camera it just takes a few minor adjustments to the settings. Here is how I get the highest quality video for my Sony a7III while shooting.

Yep!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
How on gods green earth do you have one thousand subs?! You deserve 100K. Thanks for helping this camera newbie out!
Thank you so much! Happy to help!
Had this weird Sony problem that I was only able to select 25p for 50/100m - now I changed it to the PAL mode and it worked for me! Thank you so much for the Video.
Glad to hear that! I appreciate the support
bro ur literally him! so glad i found this video❤❤
Glad you enjoyed!
Keep making content bro! You are doing amazing and helping guys like me who have no idea with settings, build confidence to shoot
What a simple yet super informative video. Thank you for breaking it down so amazingly
Glad it was helpful!
You explained it so well without making unnecessary noise. One of the best tutors!
Glad I could help!
Watched your photography settings and just finished your videography settings. Just got my Sony A73 and have a lot of projects line up already and glad to watch your videos very informative on what settings to use and why and what they control!
Glad to hear they helped! Good luck with your projects!
Thanks man!! Just bought my first camera today and have to shoot a wedding tomorrow haha!
Got my camera for years now and thought I knew everything. But wanted to look up some more help with video settings and bro, this is the most helpful video ever! Thank you dude.
Glad to hear it mate! Happy to help
Great video! I'm professional athlete and bought a new A7III for my vlogs and photos for sponsors products. Learning from a video like this makes the learning process way better.
Great to hear! Checked out your channel, keep up the great work!
Thank you! Getting back into the swing of using my Sony A7III and that video was great for catching me up a bit again.
Great to hear!
Oh god i need this camera
Thank you for this!!
Thank you, buddy!
Awesome video although the only question is about which picture profiles are best to use for the best footage outcome possible :)
Absolutely! I’m working on a vid now!
Hey, any updates on this? I really like how your Video looks. :)
Your the man! So straight forward and basic to understand 🙏🏼
Thanks for your help Zach!
I never comment a video, but you are very clear and pretty straight forward and you helped me a lot to understand the basics.
Keep it up man!
Thank you for sharing bro, A7III is still an incredible camera tbh.
Agreed! Such a good camera
Dawg I just got my a7 I appreciate you explaining this. Thank you!!
of course! happy to help
Dude I never comment on videos either but this was perfect. You got right to the point and these things are simple or whatever, but I just got this camera (switched from canon) and this was so helpful. Making the ISO the spin wheel is so clutch, mine wasn’t set to anything. I thought I had to keep pressing right on the wheel and scrolling to desired setting. The 4k 1080p 120 frames thing was helpful also. I love slow-mo haha thanks brother
I appreciate that! Glad it helped!
Keep going man!!
So helpful 🎉
Thank you! Glad to hear it!
You explain everything really good thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
your the goat man I appreciate your help
Thanks dude!
No problem!
A super informative and straight to the good stuff video! I wish you many followers and growth :)
Thank you!
Yo, i just got my a7iii, thank you!!
Anytime!
quick and easy, thanks man.
You bet!
Really well explained. Keep going mate🎉🎉
Thanks a ton
Thanks, very helpful, I´m newbbie with this camera, you saved me a lot of brain pain :p
Glad to hear that!
Thanks man, that's very helpful :D Would you mind making a video regarding picture profiles pls? Which to use and how to set them up?
Absolutely! I will start working on that for you!
4:10 DO NOT use steady shot in manual, unless you have a lens your camera can’t read.
If you set your steady shot at 8mm the shoot at 200mm, it will not work well. Try it. It’s a huge difference.
This video was helpful. thanks
Glad it was helpful!
great job sir.thank you for great information.
So nice of you
Excellent clean video
Thats very help full mate !! I dont know why when i shoot XAVC S 4k the video will start ta lag in post proses.
I’m not sure! But it might be from your frame rate. Make sure you double your shutter from your fps. So if I’m shooting in 4k 60fps. I make sure my shutter is at least 1/120. Same for 4k 30fps, I’ll have my shutter speed at 1/60 at least.
Very good informative video 👍
Thanks a lot!
Thank you!
Thanks for checking this out !
Hi Zach! Awesome video! I have a question for you. I bought the Sonya7iii because I saw most fitness videos are filmed with it and that is what my business is. Do you have a recommended "default" video setting for that? I know nothing about cameras and such so that's why I stumbled upon your video in the first place.
Awesome! Yeah so the easiest way to do it would be to shoot in A Mode, or auto mode. This can be done by changing the dial on top of your camera. I highly recommend learning to shoot in M mode eventually and I have a video for that! but for now just starting out learning the camera A mode will do just fine!
I also have the same Sony but I cant see these in setup settings
this is an awesome video, and thank you for making this so easy to understand! I'm a newbie and starting to get into videography and could really use your advice: I am always filming in 60fps due to needing to slowmo the videos if necessary. I realize now that when doing that, I'm not getting the highest quality footage I could be getting, and I see that 4k only goes up to 30fps. What settings do you recommend, especially if you know you may need to slow down the footage later - but still want the highest quality?
I would still recommend shooting in that 60fps, but I would get in the habit of switching back and forth between 4k and 1080 in this regard.
Super helpful video. Will definitely give you a follow
Thank you! I really appreciate that
It doesn’t seem like these settings give you 4K 60fps ?
3:07 thank you for clearing up that it is slow motion at 120p. I kept recording videos but they would slow down by themselves :( . Come to realize I was recording at 120 p 😅
Great Video!! Thank you so much!
You are so welcome!
Good work bro! U earned my sub!
Glad to hear! Thanks for that!
Best video ever!
Function Ring (Lens) Message
Please attach a suppotted lens since the current lens is not supported
Sony Lens 28-70 3.5/5.6
Thank you brother 🤞🏾
Any time
thank you for your help. god bless you.
Glad it helped!
no questions, just thanks !
Glad to hear the video helped!
Best picture profile sony a7 iii
I like s-log3. Gives the most range for color grading in my opinion
Great tutorial ... which picture profile are you using?
For this video I was using S-Log3 and color corrected in post production
I need the best setup for video what is important to have a great video
Aperture
Shutter speed
ISO
Those setting all depend on the type of lighting situation you are shooting in, I always try and balance the bucket. Never let your shutter speed be less than half of your frame rate. So if my frame rate is 30fps, my shutter speed should be at least 1/60. If my frame rate is 60fps, my shutter speed should at least be 1/120. And then from there you can balance the other settings to your liking.
great video! earned my sub
Thanks! Much appreciated!
Can you explain Picture Profiles/Gamma stuff for a Sony A7III? If possible, thanks!
The pause you make at around 3:14 is so weird xD I thought you wanted every one to just leave lol
Hi! Thanks for the vid. Have a question re Function ring. I have the 24-70mm FE 2.8 Sony lens and when I try to click on it to turn it on... it says that it isn't supported. Do you know what kind of lenses are supported for the function ring? other than the ones you listed? thanks!
just fyi, if you use choose the 1080/120p and 4K , the face detection on AF - C mode in A7iii, would not work so you have to use manual focus.
I’ve never had a problem like that. I’ve always been able to stay in focus with my a7iii shooting at 4k30. Maybe that’s true if you’re shooting for a lot of movement but I’ve never had an issue with it otherwise. I appreciate the comment and I’ll lookout for that next time I’m shooting
Very helpful
Thx bro
anytime!
thank you
hey Zach-in video settings can you shoot in wide angle letterbox?or,can you adjust in aspect ratio?
Awesome! can you share of your using wire in Hdmi to external screen? hehe planning to use my mobile phone it is possible? :)
Hi, if I put in these settings my camera says: " To perform shooting with these settings, use a UHS-I U3/ UHS-II U3 compatible memory card". This sounds like abra cadabra to me, do you know what this means? I was also wondering if you could set two different shooting preferences (so day and night video settings), so that I can easily shift without putting in the ISO and F every time again. Many thanks, Gwen
What lens do you need for the function ring to work? It’s saying the lens I have on there currently is not supported which is a Tamron 70-180. Also with the Steadyshot settings in manual mode where you can set the focal length would it be better to set it at the high end of that focal length so for that Tamron lens set it to 180mm?
hi plz tell me which lens is best for food video and pic i have sony a7iii Thanks
I would say a good budget lens for that type of this would be the sony 50mm 1.8, but a more expensive lens, I could see the 16-35 G Master being helpful for filming food.
Great video
Thanks!
Yo thanks for the vid it’s awesome. I’m new to videography but if I’m shooting sports, is 120 fps necessary? Also if I shoot at 120fps 1080p does that mean I can’t crop in post?
I don’t have the (Function Ring Lens) option is it only available with certain lenses? Or how can I add it
Awesome! 🙌
Thanks! 😁
Hey just got this camera and when I press record to start shooting it’s really dark, how can i fix that?
Hi Zach! Thank you for this video! The only issue that I have is setting up Function Ring as Power Focus. It's unavailable on my camera for some reason. Instead, I see the message while trying to klick onto Function Ring: Please attach a supported lens since the current lens is not supported. I use Sony A7III with Sigma 24-70mm F2.8, and I have no clue what's happening. I make photos and videos with this lens and it works, but to set up this setting I'm not able to. Maybe someone has experienced the same issue and knows how to solve it? Thanks!
I notice light bands in my videos. What can I do to fix that? I have the a7iii
Thanks Bud.
Happy to help!
what video settings would you recommend for filming the aurora (not time-lapse) with the a7iii? Picture Profile, Gamma, and color mode settings?
Was going absolutely crazy at my A7III looking noisy despite trying everything. Turns out the solution was to record in movie mode and not manual mode 🤦♂
What kind of lens do you use for your camera. My two lens do not allow me to use power focus mode.
I typically use G master lenses or G series lenses
thank u
No problem!
Sir I am confused between Sony a7iii and Sony a7miii which camera is best for cinematic videography..?
Hey Zach! A couple quick questions, taking this camera and these settings in mind, what is the best SD card for continuous shooting, like for a CZcams or music video? And do you recommend shooting in compressed or uncompressed raw for those types of videos? Lastly 😅 if I want to be able to shoot and have normal footage speeds, but be able to edit it to slow mo for creative shots, what fps do you recommend overall? Thank you!!!
I have made a video on this subject but I've actually been using the "Sony Tough 300mb/s" SD cards and they have been great!
Ohhh! I’ll check it out. Thank you!!
Hey, thanks for this video it helps a lot! I've got a question, when I try to put on the function ring (lens) setting, my camera is telling me that I can't put on this option because my lens is not taken in charge. I don't understand 😂 can you please help me? It's one of the best option and it would be so sad if I couldn't put it on :)
What if the Function Ring(Lens) is grey and says you need a lens that supports that function? What kind of lens do I need?
why i dont have this 4 options in 4k? i only have 25p options
Great video Zach really appreciate the info! I do have a question though:
When I do change my FILE FORMAT to XAVC S 4K, It only gives me 2 RECORD SETTINGS which are25P 100M and 25p 60M.
Do you know how I can get the other options?
Glad you enjoyed!
So sometimes when you buy a Sony camera it has automatic setting programmed onto it. In your case, it is currently in the PAL setting, where my camera was in NTSC. It’s simply a matter of which country you bought your camera in or where it was shipped from, etc. It’s simply a location thing.
There is a way to change that in your settings. It should be under your main setting page, and it should just say “NTSC/PAL Selector” and just click on that to change it. It may reboot your camera, but once you switch it, it will stay that way until you switch it back.
thank you bro
Happy to help!
Zach this’s an Amazing video! I love the way you explain everything. Can I get a couple classes online with you? Let me know if you’re interested. Best regards!
Yeah absolutely! Shoot me an email at zach@ztmedia.co and we can discuss some details!
What shutter speed do you recomend?
Loved your content .. the way you explain things are so well ..
Just want to know can A7||| record 10 bit through external recorder
Thank you! I appreciate the tip
No 10 bit with the a7iii
good video !!
Thanks for the visit
I use xachd, what setting you are recommend for car static shot for speed ramp
Why m mode over movie ?
I prefer it because you have more control over your settings
hi. liked your video... can you tell me if you have the same issue.. im kind of disappointing in my A7III. I also have a sony FX6 and I know, I shouldnt compare those two.. but yet I do.🙄
After I have shot with my A7III there is alot of video noise, and that does not go away in post and grading. Do you have the same "raw file" issue or is your picture quality good in raw? I also shoot in Log3
Noise can be an issue when shooting in S-log if you are not color grading properly, that might be the issue. But also the Fx6 is going to waaaayy out preform the A7iii in low light, so just be aware of what ISO you are using and keeping your exposure level between +1.3 - +1.7
Hi thanks this was really a dope video, but as a Canon guy I need to know about shooting flat how do I set that? I mean S-Log?
For Sony, It should be under picture profiles, and it will be called S-Log 3. For canon Im not sure but I assume it would be something similar!
hi zach one question in record settings i only have 25p/100m and 25p/60m any advice how i can turn this into 30/100?
Why do I only have 25p100M and 25p60M in record settings when choosing XAVCS4K ?
Yes i have the same question
I found that it my be because the firmware need to be updated
Hi Zach! Great videos! Thank you for those! I have got a question: What's better if I want to shoot in 60fps, and my sequence will be 24fps. Shall I use S&Q in 60fps recording in 24fps or better XAVC S HD and 60 fps, turning it into 24fps sequence in post?Or another way?
Thank you! Definitely using XAVCS will get you a better quality image. Then when you drag your 60fps clip into the timeline it will automatically convert to 24fps. But if you desired, you would be able to slow that clip down to essentially >50% speed because your timeline frame rate is 24, and your clip frame rate it 60 so 24/60 = >0.5 or 50%
I hope that made sense
Does it have ALL -I.....option to shoot professional videos ?
Kinda of. You can achieve a similar looking video with PP10. It just provides an example setting for HDR recording and can be viewed with a wider range of brightness
is 60p 50m better for editing in slow motion (for weddings - shots of details and venue) or 30p 50m?
60p will allow you to film in 60 frames per second which will allow you to slow down the video. 30p with allow you to film in 30 frames per second which will generally not allow you to slow down the video depending on the type of timeline you are editing the video in
Really useful thank you! I would just like to know what SD card are you using. Mine currently isn't supporting 100M. Thanks!
I use a 128gb SanDisk Extreme Pro. It’s my favorite card out there. a little pricey as far as memory cards go but it’s really
nice to have that extra space and the ability to capture everything I need
