What rice did you use???
Hey there friends! Today we're making my mother's favorite way to eat Onigiri. Yaki Onigiri means Grilled Rice Balls and really takes onigiri to the next level. Enjoy!
Hey! Really enjoy watching your videos! I'm addicted to japanese cuisine but I'm from Portugal (currently living in the UK). I was wondering how did you make the rice and what type of rice did you use?
Really love your videos! Keep up the awesome content!
TabiEats rice ro Sticky rice ?
TabiEats is it me or do I see poptarts in the back?? A&W root beer ones and looks like brown sugar or cookie dough ones also.
TabiEats is there a specific type of rice need or will jasmine rice still work?
TabiEats I have been visit Kyoto for the past two weeks and decided I will like to take onigiri for work lunches because I love them so much, they are filling and fairly healthy. Is there a trick to keep the rice moist while being stored?
Something to cook for breakfast! You know, this is something that makes breakfast cooking enjoyable. Why? Because it's easy enough to feel free of hassle-you can just sit there and chill carefree while it cooks and the end result is just tasty.
I have a good friend who is Japanese and your descriptions of foods and tours of the cities have helped me in conversations. Thank you for explaining things so well. You two are great !

Ok these are great, I had never had them before so I made them last night. I sprinkled mine with Nigiri and black sesame. Thanks for all the videos guys.
Sorry that was Nori not Nigiri. Too tired when I was writing. Still a great recipe guys.
When I've made grilled onigiri, I've kind of just put them in a frying pan and poured soy sauce on to them. Seems to work pretty well, and tastes great.
I love u guys!!!!
Cool 😎 😎 😎
I've never seen Yaki Onigiri made. Thank you gentlemen for the recipe and techniques. (Oven & Skillet) As I've said, I can cook alot of Japanese recipes and now I can't wait to try this new to me recipe. 😋 sesame & plum
- 😀🙏
Greetings from Qld Australia. Thank you for nice recipe. GBU
Never have I ever had this! Now I can't wait to try it out . . . oooh
gardengalsu I found some frozen grilled onigiri in my local Japanese market. They were amazing, so I can only imagine how delicious fresh ones would be.
if you know how to make boil rice then you can make ornigiri
Melissa Quinn & William Ng: Thanks for the comments. Sometimes we just need a teeny nudge to think "outside the box", huh.
Looks amazing!! Thanks for sharing guys! One of my favorite fillings for onigiri is mixing Katsuobushi with shoyu, then squeezing out the excess shoyu. You end up with a nice chunk of smoky shoyu flavored fish in the center of your onigiri.
Your Yaki Onigiri look great. Never thought of grilling on a frying pan. I used to make bunch for my son and his friends when we had BBQ. I put cheese in the middle, then brushed with sweet sesame/peanut butter soy/miso sauce. Boy, the boys ate like there was no tomorrow!!. Great side for BBQ meats, too.
Ooooh, looks awesome! Have to try it out as soon as possible
when i a m in japan this is my favorite thing to buy in 711 !! but i cannot have them shipped to the USA!! so now i know how to make them thanks ! :)
ty i love making mine fell apart so i watched again...yup you have to mush it around...i forgot...it was so good still!!!!!
I'm going to make this and your mother's potatoe salad tonight. I'm going to be a little lazy and use my frozen korokke. Love all of your videos!!
omg shinichi your mom it's so practical. pour and grill. 😊 I'll love to have soy sauce in all sides of my onigiri. I love soy sauce. you guys looked so nice wearing similar shirt. great video as always. greetings from Nicaragua
Aww.. you guys are soo cute 😍 I love this video and all your reviews. Super entertaining!
Dunno why but I tend to crave for onigiri whenever I'm in Japan but never at home. LOL. I do like this grilled version very much esp because there is pickled plum! My fave. 😍😘❤️️
this idea is awesome :D
Oh Shinichi you cooked your mom version of the rice ball thats so sweet of you to share with the viewers your mom recipe. Hope you keep making more recipes in the future. Say hi to Satoshi, see you on your next video bye sleep thight and good night Shinichi.
I love a miso mirin mx on my yaki onigiri but this looks yum!
Yummy rice balls, they look so good :-)
I am going to make this tonight with leftover rice. Maybe some toasted sesame inside and out, too. Don't mind us. Finish eating!
I like Satoshi's beard that way. It looks good. Of course the onigiri look great too. Thanks guys!
I literally just finished watching the video and then ran straight to the kitchen. I got sushi rice and soy sauce (nothing for the filling though) and started making it! I was was too impatient on the frying part though, I did not let it crisp up enough because upon tasting it afterwards the crispy, slightly "burned" soy sauce parts were amazingly delicious. I am definitely going to make these again and when I do I shall be patient and have a filling ready cause they sure as hell are yummy and easy to make! Thanks for sharing this, I much enjoyed it :D
Another wonderful video - the onigiri look absolutely scrumptious! I hope you'll do another video with the miso version. Are you all okay after the earthquake? I heard that it was felt quite strongly in Tokyo. I hope you are all safe, including Justin. We get earthquakes here also, and I know they are difficult. Sending caring thoughts your way.
Thank you!
