Shane was born with a neuromuscular disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy that requires him to use an electric wheelchair. He is the author of several award-winning books, the President of a nonprofit organization called Laughing At My Nightmare, and a renowned public speaker who has performed across the country at places such as Harvard University, The University of Florida, The University of Connecticut, Princeton University, and many more.
Hannah just graduated from Carleton College, where she studied Sociology and Anthropology. Her future aspirations include attending graduate school and owning a goat sanctuary. She films and edits the “Squirmy and Grubs” vlog.
Shane and Hannah have been dating for 3+ years and living together in Minneapolis for a year. On June 15th, 2019 they got engaged!!!! Their interabled relationship often confuses people, because much of society still cannot fathom people with disabilities being involved in loving, intimate relationships. Anyone who watches these episodes will quickly see their relationship is just as “normal” as any other. Sure, Hannah helps Shane use the bathroom and brush his teeth, but those activities do not detract from the emotional, intellectual, and physical connection they experience together.
I accidentally watched one of these vids and thought “WTF” is this? So I watched another and this guy made me laugh so hard. So I watched two more and laughed harder. These two need there own tv show. I’m subbed.

Aaaaw that is so sweet. Dandelion roots are a tasty alternative to coffee....yes, the roots boiled makes a remarkably close beverage. Honestly if you didn't tell someone they would just think it was coffee. So if you like the taste try that! It's kind of hard to dig them up unless it's just rained but you can either buy online or from one of those fancy health food stores with all the dried herbs and medicines
I have a bad intolerance to coffee too and sobs chocolate but tea all the way!!!!

No way! Me too! I’ve only met one other person in my lifetime who is also allergic to coffee. But I love tea and chocolate is fine too. I love the scent of coffee and wish I could drink it. I can’t even have coffee candy, ice cream, nothing. So sad 😭
LOL, Chloe walks into the living room. She has the look of quick while they aren't looking and busy. She goes into another room planning and writing her greatest best selling novel about her adventures of sneaking treats and learning how to speak fluent Italian.

Actuually, she just does a lot of pacing around and whining for attention while they do the videos. Sort of like kids when their mother is on the telephone. She just can't stand to have them occupied, when she's not included.

I’m so sorry for your loss. My husband and I have been together from the ages of 15 & 17, coming up to 45 years soon! My parents have been together from when they were 14 & 17, they just celebrated 63 years together!

That was so cute. I love this channel so much. These guys uplift my Spirit in these dark days. Squirmy and Grubs have no idea how much they help me. I rewatch their vids at night when I have trouble sleeping and their energy lulls me. Comforting, calming ,funny. Super strong Love energy. It calms my anxiety and sometime I can even drift off to their playlist what a blessing. So glad I stumbled upon one of their vids.

As a PT it makes me so sad you’ve had terrible experiences (the one in your book about your hamstring tear when the PT kept pushing you even though you told him to stop is especially heinous.) I hope you don’t need PT services anytime soon but if you ever do I hope they are knowledgeable and caring. Your channel has certainly taught me a lot about SMA, so thank you for that!

I drive a BraunAbility van with a joystick! It's a total game-changer but it literally took 3 years to complete the driving program and purchase the van. I was able to get funding through the state's vocational rehab program for people with disabilities (every state in the US has one!) so I was only responsible for the price of the van.
Born and raised in Baltimore and spent at least 1 week every summer in OC MD, haven’t been in so long. Love you both.

I love watching you guys. My favorite is seeing the love and excitement in Hannah's eyes as she looks at Shane. You guys have some of the best stories. My husband is always afraid to do some stuff with me because of my wheelchair. He worries that something might happen and he would rather play it safe.

shane and hannah’s dynamic is just so entertaining. i love the way one makes a joke and the other bounces off of them & continues it. within the first 30 seconds i was laughing bc of the little bits of sarcasm. the two of u are seriously so funny and such a good pairing.
Shane would make an amazing therapist for children with disabilities or without. He has such an awesome personality and sense of humor, kids would love him!! They would love you both!
You guys should create a wedding gift fund for your viewers, where the proceeds can go towards a bathroom remodel or joystick for your car, or some other accessibility option that you would like to have but not enough to pay for it yourself!

Just as I had imagined, Shane sitting on Hannah’s lap. My oldest daughter did that with her siblings. They always “helped” park the car, but never broke a thumb. Maybe mommy broke someone’s butt and pride when she found out?
We always go to OC in July. We stay near the Dunes Manor. You hav to see the lobby. It’s very reminiscent of a bygone era.
