T-TWR Update: It Works!

- #lilygo #igate #hamradio This Lilygo T-TWR is a development project that has been put to use in several ways. The first time I saw it, it was being used as a handheld transceiver. It came to me with that firmware installed. That, however, is not the extent of the possibilities of marrying the esp32 microcontroller, a vhf or uhf radio, and gps. The firmware I came across on the internet promised the ability to use the T-TWR as a digipeater. Well, the firmware also has functionality for aprs beaconing, digipeater function, and an igate. I was very interested in the igate part of the system. It has been working.
Pretty cool, checking out the T-TWR now. And yes, I'd definitely like to hear more about your Meshtastic setups.

I have been dabbling in lora for a while, but I can't say I am much more than a dabbler. I have one of GarthVH's units from etsy that employs the RAK 4631/4630. It's solar powered and sits permanently on the trailer; it comes with no gps, but I added it easily. RAK is so modular and easy, and the Meshtastic developers do a good job of making sure the fw knows the hardware. I just put a RAK 4631 with gps up my portable, CHA antenna mast at 25 ft, and it's housed and powered by a Voltaic system. Both of those seem to sip power and stay at an acceptable level via the small solar panels. There are absolutely no nodes in my area other than me, but I am rv portable so the next spot may full of nodes, lol. There . . . there's my script for my next video, lol. It's not done and polished, but it does a lot of what it's supposed to do. Word is ( I have not tested it ) it can be a bit dirty, but dirty and minuscule power is how bad ??? Modern radios already have all this figured out, but it is kind of fun, not expensive, and frees up my mobile or handheld from having to do aprs. I'm having fun experimenting / playing with it. Have you been able to connect to the Bluetooth?
Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate it! As far as Bluetooth, I never gave it a try. Once I got it running as a gateway and connected to either my phone or cell hotspot via wifi I stopped tinkering. So it doesn’t like iPhone Bluetooth I was able to get it to connect to my kindle fire but no luck with aprs droid. I have not reached out to the developer.
@GunsandRadios something else just came across my mind. I know I still have the firmware available at the time of the video because it works for me. I know at least one newer firmware exists. Look into that.
