  • Mounting a Holosun X2 series micro red dot sight to the new Canik Mete is not as straight forward as you would think. This is a some what quick video on what you'll have to do, to make it work.

    Super helpful video! I Mounted that optic on a mete sft. Filing two of the nobs off of those cheap adapter plates worked fine. If I could go back I would have just bought a higher quality metal adapter plate from freedom gorilla, but shaving the plates works well enough

    Hey, this is not all you need to do... The front dimples are too tall as well. You can look under and see they hold it off the plate. I used a sharp razor knife to remove the back two and same to shave off a hair of the front two. Was fairly easy. Fyi... On a hellcat these 4 dimples are metal and you have to use a grinder same way, remove back two and shave down the front two so the sight sits flat... Thanks for the video, helped me to get started.

    Thanks for the video instructions. I recently bought a Rival. It is so new that there aren't any videos installing a Holosun on them yet. I figure it is basically the same, except with the Rival, you get 5 plates in the package. Maybe it will keep me from having to grinds the nubs off a plate. I think I am going to try the 507c ACSS with the chevron reticle.

    Used my wife's nail file on the nubs taped the edges i didnt wanna hit to protect them. Glad i found this video I wasnt sure if grinding em was ok at first seemed like an odd thing to have to do especially for the optic most people are gonna buy for this gun. Just used the locktite the came on it ,dont have a torque wrench so I hand tightened it like you did . Doubt it walks loose. 407k Green dot used a laser snap cap to zero it gonna shoot it tmo and see if its on

    • @lastavocations9487
      @lastavocations9487  Před 2 lety

      I thought taking the two nubs off was weird also. But I figured the optic only has two holes in it, so what difference would it make to the optic.
      I looked all over for a torque spec for either the holosun or canik. The only thing I found was a company that says they put them on a 5 inch pounds. Which is probably less than hand tight.
      Thanks for watching.

    • @lastavocations9487
      @lastavocations9487  Před 2 lety

      What I do is have a local person make my OWB holsters for any of my pistols with optics,lights,or both. Then make sure they can make it adaptable to the Safariland ALS system. That way you can just swap back and forth without having to spend $200+ on each individual firearm.
      The combinations of firearms to light, firearm to optic, firearm to light and optic is pretty vast. So finding a good holster that matches your particular set up is pretty hard. Legacy Firearms Co makes one for the Mete and TLR1, that doesn't look bad.
      Good luck.

    Appreciated. I spent a little time getting used to my iron sights on my Mete SFx, and I'm now researching optics. I narrowed down to Holosun 507k, 407k, and the Swampfox Sentinel. To be honest, I'm leaning toward the "407k" for 3 reasons: it's offered in GREEN dot, it's 6 moa...compared to "2" moa on the 507k, and finally - price. Swampfox seems decent, but the business and rep is just so young, and their pricing is just too close to Holosun for me not to go with the reputable. Side question: Does the 407k co-witness with the SFT/SFX METE okay?

    • @lastavocations9487
      @lastavocations9487  Před 2 lety +5

      Co-witnessing is pretty good. You only lose the bottom 1/4-1/3 of the front sight. I don't think there would be any reason to switch to suppressor sights.
      I was going to go with the 507 at first, until I did some looking around. And saw almost everyone saying that they never use the extras with the 507 over the 407. So I couldn't bring myself to pay the extra money.
      As for the swampfox. I don't know anything about them. This was actually my first Holosun product because of the same reason. I also tend to lean towards the tried and true brands.
      Good luck..

      The cut out on the slide is longer than the sight. Without the plate filler on the adapter, the screws would have to take 100% of the torque from the shock going back and forth. Just my opinion though..

      @@lastavocations9487 since this is a plastic plate, could this present durability issues? If so, is there anywhere I could purchase a metal plate and still be able to co-witness with my iron sights?

    • @lastavocations9487
      @lastavocations9487  Před rokem

      I think it's durable "enough" for 99% of what ppl are going to do with a Canik.
      If I was thinking about taking it into battle or a service pistol, I probably wouldn't bet my life on it. I would go with a direct mount for sure.
      Yes, there are companies out there making aluminum plates for them. But I'd warn, that steel and aluminum in direct contact with each other with massive swings in tempature will result in fast corrosion issues.

    • @jasonkramer1271
      @jasonkramer1271 Před rokem

      @@lastavocations9487 Okay thank you! Also, since the screws would be taking 100% of the torque, would regular use cause the screws to become loose and lose zero? If so, would blue loctite be enough to hold zero?

    • @lastavocations9487
      @lastavocations9487  Před rokem

      The way I see it. The screws (mostly) hold it down vertically, and the little cut out it sits down inside holds it horizontally. That's why the slide cut out is so important.
      If you torque the screws down to the proper in/lb, in the proper sequence, you shouldn't have any problems with it loosening up on you. And (I myself) put blue loctite on EVERYTHING.
      One thing I recommend to ppl is to not fully sight it in until you've shot enough rounds through it to get the slide good and hot. Plastic and metal expand A LOT from heat at different rates (plastic less at faster rates and steel more at slower rates). And you've got an aluminum sight, mild steel screws, a plastic plate, and a hardened steel slide. So naturally, you're going to have different alignments at different tempatues. That's why it's so important that you don't over tighten your screws. Because if you've got those screws almost to their yield point at room temperature, when it gets hot and expands, it will stretch the screws past their yield point, and things will start to loosen up on you.
