  • Make Sure it's in 1080p! Monson Lake State Park in Sunburg, MN is a hidden gem of a destination. Established in 1923, to commemorate the loss of settlers during the 1862 Dakota Conflict in the immediate area, this park is chock full of history and beautiful lakeside views. There is a one mile long hiking path loop that brings you along the shores of both lakes in the park. These twin lakes, Monson and West Sunburg, were formed by melting glacial blocks and are both known locally for large or "Lunker" bass, as well as walleye, northern pike and panfish. In the 1930's, park buildings were constructed, mainly by the Veteran's Conservation Corps, that still stand proudly today and are in phenomenal shape.
The grave site of the victims of the tragedy of the area can be found in the Lebanon Cemetery in New London, MN not far from the park.
