- Tatra is one of the oldest car manufacturers ever. A collection of rare Tatras were gathered at Retromobile 2020, so we took an in-depth look at the car that gave birth to the original Volkswagen Beetle and a 1930s limo! #gwoverdrive #Retromobile

I'm totally blown away, that an institution like yours would recognize Tatra's place in the history of motoring. Awesome
Hans Ledwinka might be the most important man in automotive history that most people don't know about.
beat Porsche in court for patent violations! Great cars, too bad they ended up in Soviet Eastern Europe.
2:34 Tatra mountain tange is NOT in Czech Republic but in Slovakia. It's called Tatra because Czech Republic and Slovakia were united in the 1930s, thus known as Czechoslovakia.
this is refreshing to hear that this Czech car is the real people's car started it all... thanks...:) wish they would make new ones.
This 77 was one the most beautiful cars on Rétromobile this year. You have to see in the flesh to fully appreciate it.
Its the car Porsche stole the beetles design from!
I have a book, Amazon Head Hunters. Two guys took a Tatra high up and far back. An all aluminum Tatra that looked like a sow/pill bug or a tear drop. ..... It's like a 911 on Acid. Sounds interesting.
One anal moment @4:56. In Czechoslovakia they used to drive on the left side of the road before WW2. The Nazis forced them to change that.
The Tatra mountain range is in Slovakia.
It spreads across several Countries
Luke Chrzanowski Yes, Tatra mountains are in Sllovakia, Poland, but not Czech Republic. In the Czech Republic is only the Tatra cars factory...
@@lukec410 85% of tatra mountain range is located in Slovakia
Thank you for showing this jewel of history to the public. Czech accomplishments are generally downplayed as earlier it was part of the Holy Roman Empire, then Austro-Hungarian Empire, etc. They rarely get the respect they deserve.
Thank you for an impressive auto history lesson. Comparable to a "911 on acid" certainly conveys the driveability. :)
Great video, but you´ve made a small mistake, Tatra mountain range is in the Slovak part of former czecho-slovakia.
Porsches inspiration by Ledvinkas ideas is not the full story.
You know ultraswven pointer car from movie ultra seven but looks like a beetle too mixed like customized between 1958 chrysler imperial and 1933 volks wagon beetle when the ultra seven car was mixed with pontiac and 1958 chrysler imperial
Im a simple man: i see Nazi killer,i press like
It looks like a cross between an ultra seven pointer and a volks wagon beetle
Some say inspiration Many say Blatant Copy
Go figure a Brit who doesn't like Volkswagen.......
Porsche et Volkswagen espionnage industriel
Hum am I the only one who’s seen the « Tatra : the Nazi Killer » title ?
Why use nazi when we talk about VW
Tatra the original Porsche
@Luffaman petrolicious.com/articles/if-porsche-never-designed-the-volkswagen
911, looks like a Beetle.
Beetle looks like a Tatra.
No originality in 911 then...
Please leave the nazi buzzword clickbait to car hipsters at Jalopnik. The whole story about the car killing nazi officers is a complete fabrication.
You could talk about this unique car for hours while keeping it factual. There's no need to bring in urban legend rubbish like that.
Also Tatra Mountains are not located in Czech Republic, Hans Ledwinka was not tasked by Germany to develop a people's car, and there is nothing contradictory about driving on the other side of the road in a LHD/RHD car.
Of course you're also here giving your precious informations.
