I saw a TV documentary about Dave Allen, and was surprised to learn he was on Australian TV before he ever got on TV here in the UK.

I'm glad I grew up with comedy at its rawest in terms of braking new grounds with speech /boundaries being broken as such.benny hill ..Kenny Everett..but I think Dave Allen made it so obviously questionable the hypocrisy with religion ..and at that time it was pretty full on
@@Adrian-ey5xp Families grouped around the TV here to watch Benny Hill. I was disgusted that he was sacked for nothing, at the top of his game, with the highest viewing figures. The Kenny Everett Show was very popular a few years later too. For me, Dave Allen was at his best sitting down with his cigarette and drink. I didn't like the sketches so much. I saw through religion aged around 7, and mimed the hymns at school. Dave Allen probably aided me in becoming the agnostic atheist I am today though. I remember him ridiculing Adam and Eve and the speaking serpent, in the bible, then saying they make you swear on that book in a court of law.

@@Adrian-ey5xp Loved On The Buses when I was young. It's still shown here sometimes. I remember Love Thy Neighbour (snowflake, honky, sambo) and saw Open All Hours too. Only Fools And Horses is probably the best-loved comedy ever in the UK. Those early comedy shows will never be bettered. Btw, Reg Varney (Stan Butler) was the first person to use a cash machine in the UK, and possibly globally.
