What happened in Miss World 1973?
Remember that Miss World is not based on points, it's on places, whoever has the most first places wins. I will now explain the Morley voting system: In 1973 there were 9 judges, in an IMAGINARY SITUATION, if more than 4 judges voted Miss Philippines first and the other 5 left her in 4th position, she could obtain a privileged place. But if for Miss USA 4 of the judges voted for her in first place and 5 judges voted for her in second place automatically the winner would be Miss USA. Basically Mr. Morley used the majority vote system.
NOBODY can verify how many places Evangeline missed to get 1st place as the results were NEVER shown, also there was NEVER a tie, Mr. Morley would have said it when he was going to start giving the results in reverse order. Let us remember that in 1992 he said "And in the closest results in the 42 years by one point, Miss World 1992 is Miss RUSSIA!" Referring to which Miss United Kingdom and Miss Russia were the closest by only one point and it was the closest result in the 42-year history of the pageant.
Going back to 1973 no one was offered the reign either, Mrs. Morley stated in an interview that "No one will be chosen to take the title of Marjorie, which will remain vacant until November" Thus confirming the false rumors that they had offered the crown to Miss Philippines and that Miss Jamaica had replaced her in some commitments as Miss World.

Hi, I'm a Miss world insider from the Philippines
As far as I know, the voting system in the 60s and 70s was ranking,
      1st 5 pts
      2nd 4 pts
      3rd 3 pts etc.. with 6th and 7th getting 1/2 pts.
Each judges rank the vote and the girl with the highest votes win
An exception is if a girl gets majority 1st place.. if there are 9 judges if you get at least 5 1sts you automatically win regardless if you get 7th place from other judges.
If there's a tie, Eric Morley decide the result himself

    • @taroupriapus9760
      @taroupriapus9760 Před rokem

Eric Morley said in 1992 crowning that its the closest result with only one point between Russia and UK, it's true and there's an actual scores released by each judge. But it's not the first time in history... According to Julio matute in 1975 it also happened... Miss Puerto Rico and Miss Germany has only a gap of 1 vote. Eric Morley chose Germany the whole night and was visibly upset when he learned she's only second place. Only to be very grateful the next morning when it was discovered Miss Germany posted nude on magazine earlier.

It's true, when Marjorie was fired/dethroned, the miss world seat remained vacant until the next crowning. The crown was never offered to Evangeline, it was evengelines manager that time who invented the rumour and it went well with the Filipino public

At Miss Universe, whoever have the lowest score wins, none of this majority nonsense which seem to be open to interpretation from year to year. And why wasn’t the crown offered to the runner up when that happened next year.

I believe Evangeline was the true winner that night, they offered the crown to USA because earlier that year miss Philippines (Margie) won mu and USA was 1st ru, they don't want that to repeat in Miss world that year.
However when Marjorie was fired dethroned, the crown was NEVER offered to Evangeline or Patsy (miss Jamaica). This was confirmed by the Morley's themselves. The rumour that the duties/obligations offered to Evangeline was invented by her manager that time

Its still bs why they didnt allow Philippines to win just to avoid replicating the Miss Universe result. Didn't they allow to crown Miss India in 1994 where Sushmita also won Miss Universe. I think they play politics to countries they like to win. India is also a commonwealth country that the UK are okay for them winning.

True. It was published in one magazine in the philippines. there was a tie between PH and USA. During that time, Gregory Peck was chairman of the board. To break the tie he gave 10 points to marjorie, naturally he is an american and he is in favor USA While for PH he just gave 8points to Evangeline. Eventually Miss USA was strip off her title due to public scandal. In reality Miss Philippines was deserved the title.

      Yes I strongly believe too
They don't want a Philippines -USA result in miss universe earlier that year, so they most likely interchanged making USA as miss world and Philippines runner up. Besides USA never won that time and was 1st runner up many times earlier.

I looked at these finalists. I have no bias towards Miss USA. She is, by far, the most beautiful. Sorry Philippines. This girl is no Megan Young, Margie Moran, or Catriona Gray. She did well to be 1st runner up in a major international pageant. She wasn't pretty enough to win. I wouldn't have voted for her.
