I know it's an old post, but I'm surprised no one has mentioned it. When you express care and affection for anyone or anything you overly embellish and make a long winded comment about it. You see it mostly during toast with close friends and family. Not uncommon for toast to last a few minutes

I volunteered at the 2014 Paralympics in Sochi, then afterwards visited my Russian language partners Eugen and Leonid in Novosibirsk! I have to say I really enjoyed the visit, and I would gladly go back to visit again if I had the chance. BTW, you two make a really cute couple. I hope you're still together and still as happy as you seem in these videos.

fear = aggression....dont show fear....smile at them act as if their frowns or bad attidudes go unnotice by you... pretend that their negativity oesnt exist... this goes for any place that you may travel to....not just russia...Im russian and ha the same exerience when i visited moscow as im an american now... anyway rememebr its not personal..sure you may look different than most of the locals but that notorious russian scowl doesnt change for anyone... thats just the energy there....russa has gone through alot and it manifests in this way ....do whatever it takes to not let it affect you

I went to Russia when I was 16 for about 2 weeks. Yes, so many people will stare at you. I went to Red Square and people were trying to take photos with me. People would tall me I am "like Pushkin" (the author, apparently he had some black ancestry) and they would give me free stuff (like food and souvenirs). I really enjoyed it.

Why is everyone so surprised that no one smiles in Russia? No one smiles at you in Paris for example on streets or London and people there are even more rude, but everyone is only saying that about Russia?
Yeah and I personally prefer no smiles to be honest and I am in America in a city where everyone is overly friendly haaaa

The staring! Haha, took me ages to get used to. I'd be in a queue and grown men/women directly in front of me would turn around and stare at me the entire time. I would have no idea where to look, so awkward lol. I do miss St Petersburg though.

I haven't been to Russian, but I had a similar experience when I went to visit my Ex-hubby's family in Turkey (I'm married to a Brazilian now, DEFINITELY not as dramatic to visit Brazil) for the first time!! Those peeps never saw black people before... people chased me like paparazzi!! Ok, my question..... Why didn't Fedor go with you on the flight to help you out? I give you props for going by yourself at such a young age!! Hope you have fun, enjoy yourself and the cultural experience!!

Was in Russia in 1987- USSR-Moscow, Leningrad, Zagorsk..remember meeting everyday people on the street in Moscow, and they did not smile BUT once you engaged in conversation, man, they were/are so heartfelt, in a way you just don't see in North America...similar experience in Germany. Not a smiley people, but very polite & willing to help you...hope you got your channel up & running - da, da 😉😊

Girl! Being black and traveling is an extra ordeal. People don't even understand! I flew a Russian airline from JFK to South Korea. The flight attendants were very nice but at the airport in Russia all the Russian ppl STARED at me!!! They would not smile and almost all scowled at us. I definitely got the impression that Russians were either very unhappy or like to appear unhappy. Or maybe they just didn't like me...idk! But, that was just my quick opinion from my two flights (one was a 13 hour layover).

Well stop smiling at them I wouldn't especially if they're strangers. I understand how you feel though but I think my situation was different. I had went somewhere to get some information and a older lady ,she was American by her looks and she just watched me ,scowled and walked off even rolled her eyes when I looked back, most likely she was being a suka or just prejudice..
They stared at you because you were different and interesting for them, that doesn't mean they didn't like you.

You guys are so cute ))))). I am staying in Russia and the stare never stops 6 year and going they still stare like it's very annoying .What i do now is if they look @ me i look back .Russian are barely nice always grumpy i have no idea why they are like that . i have only met a very few nice Russians. At the airport they always seem angry. I used to smile a lot now i just smile when needed. Even my classmates we can have a good chat today the next day they see you and don't say hi i was like THE FUCK!!!! But i am used to it now so i don't care if you speak to me i speak to you if you don't then i don't speak to you. Mind you very very very few speak English so 98% of the time you have to speak Russian .It was difficult @ 1st but i learnt the language and found my way around. Fedora is 1 of the nice Russians. So before coming to Russia for anything learn the basics that can get you around. Have a beautiful day))))))
