Your CEO has stopped producing vehicles because consumers can’t afford to buy a 75,000 truck. Inventory was stacking up here in N California, Chevy lots were completely full of overpriced trucks. Lower your prices !!!!!!!!!!
Buy a trax.
@@lawnmowerdude spoken like a sleazy salesman .
It would appear some dealerships are hiding inventory to charge higher prices
Dealer near me does that. They have almost no cars on the lot and have a plethora of trucks and SUV's in an empty lot quarter of a mile away.
Yup.. This scam started in CA with Lithia owned store fronts nearly 20yrs ago. They meter out specific models and trims among all their stores and post adds. The sales tactics are show shopper adds for “similar vehicles” priced the same they don’t say hey look at this green on we have at our other store. They say see that dealer has a similar price. If your selling your car below their jacked up price you get called and offered $ they want it off the local market. It’s classic monopoly games.
Today they hide all their stock and only show one example of each trim/model on the lot and play the oh soo difficult to find them but we can try for the right price.
The Mercedes dealer by me has this game going. Wana blow up their game? Say oh wow you guys must be going out if business no cars.. They’ll back pedal so fast you wonder how they don’t injure themselves. Also a hint. A dealer with zero cars wont have tons of sales staff. Theyll have one crusty old guy that works part time. Not a bunch of young lot vultures floating around😆
A new car dealership near me does exactly that. Displays only a few cars out front but his remote lot is chock full.
Everything is over priced and u have to wait forever for a order. Wait till this winter prices will fall like snow.
I like that you try to understand your competitors cars as well. So many dealers I have met barely know the first thing about any cars, even the ones they sell. Gone are the old days when the sales guys were true car guys.
Totally agree. What is the problem with some of these so called "sales professionals "😮😮
Where do you live? That's not the case at my dealership. There are a few guys that know everything , and some guys that know enough to answer pretty much any question. I'd like to know where they hire people and don't make them learn about the features and specs of the vehicles they're selling.
@@Alexander0011 NC. Went to a GMC dealer the other day, the guy didn't even know what Chevy comparibles were to the GMCs
@@davidstadtmiller8904 Long Hours and Low Pay means that the turnover is high.
Great Video Dave! It was fun and interesting. Got some big lots out there. Cool feature on the drone showing no fly zones.
Well done Dave very informative on what inventory levels are among the the various nameplates. Than you!
Thanks for the ride.
Thanks for the update.
Really cool video! 👍 I liked the Sunday morning other local dealership inventory tour. It would be interesting to see what your local carmax has next time your free on a Sunday morning. My local carmax seems to be buying up new Ford Mavericks and Broncos then selling them at a premium.
Happy to see you keeping then hair neatly trimmed...You look MUCH better with a short cut..
When I purchased my 2023 Sorento SX Prestige last year I did shop the Traverse but my dealers here in LA all wanted over the MSRP where as the Sorento was MSRP but I do like the look of the new Traverse
Very interesting video DB. I know in Western Pennsylvania, Ford lots are getting full. Also in Central Kansas from CZcams channel Ford video guy, they got plenty plenty plenty of f-150s.
This should be a monthly series where you go to the same dealers and see their inventory monthly as it may tell you when the best time to buy is at each brand when you can see when they have the most cars available.
Yea I’d definitely enjoy watching more Sunday morning dealership tours, cool video idea 👍
Good video! It shows when manufactures hold back, prices go up.
This is great content by the way. Know what your customers want, and understand what your competitors can do, and are doing for them. 99% of your peers don't get this.
Nice video Dave, I was just thinking earlier today that I haven’t seen a video from you in a bit!
Your right Dave inventory is down. Here in Albany Oregon Toyota, I have 20 new cars, but 4 Of those are sold.
I have about 30 used cars.
In 2018 we would have close to 200 cars on the lot
Thanks for another great video.
Here in southwestern Wisconsin, plenty of Chevy and Gmc trucks, Ram inventory is very high also.
I remember when I bought my first Cadillac in 1982 here in suburban Chicago, the dealership had over 400 NEW Cadillacs on the lot it took HOURS or the salesperson to show me just the DeVilles. The last time I was in for service, they had maybe 20 new vehicles, mostly XT5’s. Really sad. Loved this joy ride, Dave! You’re always so interesting.
We have in St. Louis good inventory levels. Most dealers are 20-40 pickups ford, Ram, and Chevy/gmc. The dealers offer 5-8k off right now and seeing some dealers 10k+ trying to sell. They don’t have the inventory prior to the pandemic but the lots are just about full for most part.
Hey Dave, Tony here from Niagara Falls , Canada... really enjoy your videos... very informative. I have the exact same vehicle you have, the 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV in full on black.... did my homework before I bought, and am so very happy with it... so much fun to drive, my hydro bill really hasn't gone up with home charging, and with me being 6'3", I fit in it comfortably. Keep up the good work, cheers.
Hey Tony, Thanks for watching! Your Bolt got me by a year, mine is a 2022
Loved the video and idea. Love joe you were unbiased with some of the cool cars you’ve seen!
Great overview and a real picture of the market.
Right on brother 👍
Welcome back Dave B, you were missed.
That was an interesting tour.
I went up to my dealer a couple weeks ago for an oil change and recall. Their lot was about 1/2 full of new cars. The last time I went, it had maybe 5 or 10 cars. It just looked really odd; when I asked a sales person about it, they said it was getting difficult to keep and get new inventory. I didn't ask the last time I was there, but it seems to have gotten somewhat better.
Interesting seeing such a local view. Just drove past all these yesterday hahaha. Enjoy your content, subbed man
Thanks for the sub!
I remember my sister buying a car from that Honda dealer in 2017. Those double stack racks were completely full
I leased several vehicles from Shoemacher Chevrolet and VW here in Palm Beach Florida.
Always good to deal with.
Local inventories seem to be quite normal.
Went to a local Toyota dealership recently in the Denver area and it was nearly empty. It was crazy.
Thanks for the video 🙂
You are doing your job too well! I wish you well.
I have seen low inventory at some of my local dealerships but definitely not as bad as your local ones. I’ve been seeing newer cars either sell immediately or sit for months on end and there is no in between. Used car inventory has been fluctuating faster than new inventory and part of it is the bogus markups on new vehicles. Thankfully your dealership has none of that and that’s why your vehicles are selling so fast but the con is it leaves you with very little vehicles left to sell before they can get restocked.
Dave... WV here... my local Chevy dealer has 96 new units on the lot or inbound... including 47 Silverado's they have at least one or two of model including a bolt and 2 Cameros
Being at a Nissan dealer, we never truly had Nissan inventory issues because of how long cars sit on the lot. But currently we have nearly nothing after a good month. We have leafs, Ariyas, and a Maxima
Most of the car lots in my area (San Antonio, TX) are closed on Sunday also. But all have pipe gates or similar that don't allow for you to drive on the lots when closed. Just surprised to see 'open' lots.
I am currently looking to buy a 3 year old mid-size mid-priced sedan for my wife. The best option seems to be a 2020 Acura TLX, Tech or A Spec. Visited three Acura and one Audi dealer. All 4 lots were packed with new and used cars. Prices seem to go down slowly too. I am in NJ and have not tried to get an american car since early 2000s.
Ugh. I feel that inventory issue. I love this. I'm working on getting together with our local Ford dealer to do a walk through his dealership. I love this! Thanks for the shoutout!
my local chevy store shows 296 new in stock with 151 silverados. It looks like it from the road. minimum 10K off msrp on silverados. The only other store I look at is local gmc/buick. new owners there and probably 40-50 vehicles.
Just did a road trip through Central and southern Oklahoma as well as northern Texas and every car lot I saw on the way was full of trucks and SUVs! My guess is, these lots get first priority, considering the volume of sales in this region!
About the Bolts, yes I called your dealership last year and heard the info about huge demand. I ordered one locally and received it February. The best car I have ever owned. My wife drives a Rivian and we both like the Bolt better (we do love the Rivian). I am happy to hear GM came to their senses about keeping the Bolt. Please talk about that next video. I'm interested to know if there will be a pause in production to convert to Ultimum and if they are keeping the EUV too
There has been no info released as of yet. IMO the next Bolt will be a redesign on the Ultium Platform. Maybe it'll look like the new Trax??
IMO the EUV was a waste of tooling budget, it came out so similar to the existing Bolt EV. They should've just extended the rear overhang of the existing shell but they're frightened to build anything, much less a small car, with rear quarter windows longer than they are tall.
I’m in metro Boston and this is similar to your area. My local Ford has a lot of inventory, mostly F150s. Honda and Toyota empty. Larger Chevy dealer has decent inventory but definitely lower than 2019 levels. Have you been watching the fellas from Ventnor?
Out here in San diego we are loaded up with ford's at EL Cajon tons of F150s
Some good friends of ours spent about two months shopping around for a new compact SUV. They wanted to replace their aging Subaru. After about two months, they cannot locate any of their top three or four brands in the car they wanted. They didn’t want to wait so wound up buying a Buick. They love it. I never thought they would ever shop for a Buick. But this low inventory lead them from all of their top choices over to a brand it wasn’t even on their list. Not sure if anyone is intentionally keeping inventory low. But it won’t work long-term. Shoppers will go and find value where they can find it.
Good video 👏
Dave that green Chrysler product is actually a very old color. When it was first introduced, it was called "GO MAN GO" green. haha
Dave. I wish you a successful month of August.
Thanks! I have a week off mid month but also have about 7 orders that should arrive. 2 C8's, 2 Bolts, 2 Trax, 1 Tahoe... possibly a couple more. I have to check.
Work for a Honda dealer in Upstate NY by the Canadian border. We have no new Hondas in stock, almost everything is pre selling before it gets to the dealership. However, we have well over 200 used on the lot
That Honda Civic type R in boost blue was 39000 brand new 2021. It's a insane price on that. You can buy a new one for 45k but you will have dealer mark ups. I have a 2023 Type R boost blue that I paid 5000 over MSRP.
My daughter just bought a '24 CR-V Sport Hybrid. It wasnt on the lot, but it was in transit and she kinda lucked out and got it. (Right place; right time.) When we went to pick it up last Saturday, the dealership had a '23 Civic Type R. Stickered at $45K with an $8K market adjustment. Our sales person said this is the only car they "adjust" because they don't get many, and they sell quickly. Overall, they had a decent amount of cars on the lot, but nothing like pre-CoViD.
Pre covid , post covid crappy gm Chevrolet is kicked out of hindustan for disgusting cars . Thank God... even ford is kicked out. Let the best survive.
Those Honda Civics are very nice. My son has had two of them now. I loved em both. I'm retired and driving a Mercedes Roadster. It's a very nice car, but it was built in Germany. If I had to buy another car, I'd buy a Honda Civic or a Toyota Camry. Great cars. I still have an older Ford F150, I've also had some great American hot rods. Those days are over.
I stopped by our local chevy dealership and they had more competitor brands on the lot then they had chevys. That dealer also has an attached dodge/jeep dealership and there were only like 4 vehicles on the lot. I know the dodge/jeep recently had all kinds of advertisements for "employee pricing for everyone" but I didn't see anything move. The ford dealer had some f150s, one bronco, a raptor, a few escapes, and one ecosport. The ford dealer had the most new inventory.
Chevy selling more Fords than Chevys sounds about right
good job showing
FYI....two weeks ago my family member bought a new VW Jetta SE for $1000+ under MSRP + TTL + $175 doc fee cash. Dealer asked $2000 over MSRP but we settled for much less. There were no other customers in the showroom.
Very good video.
Great video Dave! Here in Dallas Texas, very low Toyota inventory. I've been trying to buy a new base trim 2023 Toyota Corolla LE gasoline sedan for months but all the dealerships are charging 5k over MSRP and refusing to bring the price down! They have plenty of eager buyers willing to pay the markup so no need to bring down the price for me!
Yeah it’s even worse for hybrid models which is what I am interested in. As long people as people are willing to pay more to get their cars, dealers have little to no incentive to lower their asking prices.
why do you want that car new so bad? just buy used or a million better used cars choices for that price
@@tacotacotacobajablast6821 used cars are very overpriced, makes more sense to buy new with the new car warranties.
@@braetonwilson4296 but why that one so bad, even new its nothing special.
Honda & Toyota inventory is very low everywhere. Try reaching out to a more rural dealership to check on inventory and see if they will sell for MSRP. The Toyota web site will help you locate a vehicle that you want.
we bought a new vehicle a month ago and i can say that inventory seems to be up and down by brand in our tampa area. chevy and vw are doing well, toyota only had 50% of their models in stock.
Honda sales guy of 4 years. Work for a mom and pop single location store. We got 28 new cars this month and will be around the same next month. Luckily we as sales guys sell and get paid on backend profit so we can make up for lack of front end of volume gross with backend
I personally always go on a Sunday to look at cars. I want to go in when I car shop, knowing the inventory and if there are market adjustments.
i thought dealers are mostly closed on sundays
@@desmaamv they are. I believe it’s a federal law for them to be closed

Dave, big fan of your channel (by the way, you haven’t been posting much lately ha ha). I live in the area where you were doing this video and I agree some of the dealerships don’t have a lot of cars. However, I drove to Jersey City the other day and there are tons and tons of cars at the docks. That used to be Baron and empty, but there are cars from miles. If you take a ride down there that would be interesting for people to see.
Every dealership in my area (Dallas), has gates. Weird to see dealerships that allow you to drive in when they’re closed.
Inventory has improved in western new york. Just leased a 23 silverado zr2. Glacier blue. Dealer had 2 on lot both over 30 days on lot. Really nice ride with 6.2. Thanks for the video Dave I checked up here both honda and Toyota dealership Inventory seems very low from checking various websites at local dealerships. Hope you have a great August too.
Great video Dave. I’m looking forward to hearing about the new Bolt Ultium platform.
I’ve just got back from a trip to several southeastern states and I can tell you that the economy is booming. Highways are packed with cars and trucks, restaurants are full and people are buying vehicles.
Stallantis seems to have the most vehicles in inventory, that doesn’t surprise me though. Unreliable vehicles are a tough sell.
Bottom line is I guess, when manufacturers once again decide to increase market share we’ll see hundreds of cars on lots. They are in hog heaven right now selling at MSRP, but I guarantee you this will end.
Stellantis has a major problem right know. Their prices are 75K to over 100K and customers are not able or willing to pay that much money. Discounts of 10% below MSRP are being advertised by the media and 20% below MSRP may be possible in the near future. Ford Pick ups are piling up on dealer's lots because customers are not willing to pay 75K+ for a pick up truck. Demand for their electric pick up trucks is soft in part because of the asking price.
As a Honda dealer I can attest to Honda inventory being low. All Honda models are super hard to get. We have 4 new Hondas on the ground.
Same here. We have roughly 6 new Honda's and maybe 16 assorted used.
Has Honda finally resolved getting HR-V's delivered from Mexico?
@@avlog2823 not sure....we have (0) HRV's.
Toyota inventory is even lower than Honda. Honda and Toyota have come together and made a pact to produce as few cars as possible so they can keep prices high and not have to give any cash rebates.
Toyota had 7500 on a lease to bring down the payment on a bz4x
Trying to get those Car Edge & Car Question and Answer views. Good idea!
Not the case here in San Diego! Drive by them and parking lots are full. BMW offering 9k credit on new electric vehicle leases! 2 years ago it was a 6 months wait to get an electric bmw.
Also, thanks for the video, I have been curious.
I live in NJ and I pass 2 Chevrolet dealers on a daily basis. I cant tell if the are new or used but both lots are filled with vehicles
Great overview dave! Currently on the hunt for a Chevy trailblazer RS my question to you is do you know when the 2024’s are coming out?
That 2021 Type R are goes for around $44-45k in todays market.
one of those BMW's was a i4 fully electric
Local dealers here in KY have a pretty big inventory except Toyota. I'll be up your way this weekend, staying in North Bergen and seeing Metallica at Metlife.
Nice! Have a great time. I'd tell you to stop by Harold's NY Deli in Lyndhurst for the biggest sandwiches you've ever seen but I think they closed that location up.
The local Jeep Dealer by me in Pa. has market adjustments on some of there vehicles, like Dodge Rams which they can not give away. Stellantis has overpriced there vehicles trying to compete as luxury vehicles. There used vehicles are overpriced while wholesale prices are coming down but it has not shown in retail prices. I heard Chevy is slowing down on building trucks so low supply and higher prices.
No Mazda dealerships? In my area i was looking into Mazda cx-5. There seems to be a good amount of inventory. If your looking for a kia sportage, good luck. And majority of dealers here in central FL have $5,000 mark ups on kia sportage.
Mazda didn't seem to play the mark up game as much. My wife has a 2023 bolt, we ordered in oct 2022 and received from factory in Dec 2022. I bought a Kia niro ev that was on the lot. My kia is much nicer than the bolt. I tried to get a Bolt Euv in red. Damn near impossible last Feb. Unless you paid a 3-$5,000 mark up. I really like this video, good job Dave.
Mazdas sell well in NJ, but few dealers. I think the closest one to Livingston would be at least 12-15 miles away.
Im in Florida. I wanted a 2024 Trax but hard to find. Some dealers want 3 to 4K over MSRP. With a bit of looking I found a 2024 LS and got a nice discount plus my wife is a nurse and GM gave us another 500 off.
I can't get an OEM water pump for my 07 TSX which shares with the CR-V and Accord from that generatin. No ETA on when it will be avaialable.
Here in Houston most of the car lots are full. Especially Chevy and Ford.
Dang. I said it in another video, here in southeast Michigan all our lots are STUFFED! Selling at or below msrp.
Amazing how same vehicles different location can be different value.

I lived in Stanhope NJ but living in the Poconos now.Sold my 2020 Challenger Scatpack too Carvana and the gave me $45,000 for a car that I bought for $36,000 3 years ago.I was out in the Lehigh Valley area and There were NO Toyotas and NO Dodges and a Few VWs and many Nissans and NO fords.I would have bought a Car in NJ but the DOC fee most dealers want is $750-$2000......But I ended up buying a Mazda CX-30 Select for $500 below MSRP.Cost me $29,000 with all fees and taxes.......I think Mazda makes a good car and glad I bought one......
Mazda does make a good car. Take care of it and it will take care of you.
This was a great video. I bought my first new car in April since the last time I bought a Jeep in 2012. I needed a car and my Jeep had started burning oil. I wanted Toyota or Honda. Toyota had NONE for me to test drive even. I wanted either the Honda CRV or the Toyota Rav4. I did buy the CRV but I was shocked at how little inventory there was. I didn't know why.
Congrats on your new CRV!!
You made a mistake by not checking out hyundai and kia, genisis etc, but crv decent too.
I am in South Jersey They are trying to Equinoxs w/ 5k Market Adjustment (MALL CHEVY) CRAZY If you ask me)
When is the best time to buy a car? Because it’s the end of the month and I can’t find a car anywhere
Interesting to see how little inventory there still is. You should go to other dealerships on slow days and interview other salesmen about the state of their inventory so that you aren’t just guessing….I guess if they’re willing to be on camera
I have seen slightly better inventories at you group's Clifton site, which with its original nearby Little Falls site sell more trucks, including medium duty trucks and fleet sales. Ford inventory has grown over the last 6 months, including for one time hard to get models. Lincoln and CDRJ dealers seem to all running high new inventories. Nissan seems to have good inventory. For sure Toyota, Honda are very limited on new and used inventory. Hyundai/Kia has some models at low inventory, better numbers on other models. Dealerships that lowball on price but add in high 'dealer fees' are more likely to sell less of their inventory.
Great insight Dave and one of your best Vlogs ever.
Glad you enjoyed it
Hey Dave, good to see you again as usual Another good video love it keep them coming and when did the flat bottom steering wheel become a thing?
Chevy has been using it in the RS trims, Bolt, Camaro. I like it 👍
@@DaveBsellsChevy I first seen one last year when I rented for vacation a Wagoneer I thought maybe it was for the more expensive vehicles at that time because that was the first time I’ve ever saw one
Heard Chevy is starting up the bolt again. When will you start seeing them on the lot.
No info released as of yet. They will be building out 2023's into November. IMO the next Bolt will be on Ultium Platform and probably redesigned.
The Chevy and Ford lots here have some vehicles, but the Toyota and Honda lots are empty!
I work at a Toyota dealers and our lot pretty much looks like that early this month the lots was a decent size now it’s just barren
Have u been to prestige Toyota of Ramsey New Jersey it has like a lot of cars maybe over 100
The Chevrolet dealer here where I live has a good amount of inventory both new and pre owned. They sell at MSRP.
The Ford dealers in the area are fairly low, Toyota and Lexus are very low along with Honda.
Nissan is not bad, but mostly pre owned. Kia and Hyundai have inventory. Dodge, Jeep, and Ram have plenty, but Jeep has gotten such a bad reputation lately that people have stopped buying. Dodge and Ram just do not change enough I would think to keep people interested in the product.
Jeep is trying to compete with Land Rover for a 110K SUV. Its not working.
I heard the Bolt is staying around??
I work at a big toyota store and yeah it hurts. The bigger issue is we're getting a lot of undesirable stuff as well as not getting cars people want. We sell a lot of paper. been having issues with logistics as well. Luckily for me my Autoplex lets us cross-sell so it's not terrible but very annoying
I feel this low inventory is by design. My Toyota dealership i buy from hasn't had new cars for 3 years. it's 9-18 months to get a sienna
Yeah, I am the main detailer at our Chevy store in MO, and our new inventory looks about the same, except we have 5 new vehicles, and about 25 used various vehicles... I don't know who is getting the inventory, but it isn't us.
We just been selling through anything that arrives from the factory very quickly
@@DaveBsellsChevythink that most of these dealerships consolidate. Harley in ocean county is gone and shoreline is slow.. only a couple in New Jersey.. cars will be a luxury one day

We are just going back to times (50s, 60s, 70s, 80s) when interest rates were higher. Dealers could not afford to borrow money to keep hundreds of cars on their lots.
So most customers custom ordered and waited a few months. Any customers that could not wait would have to pay full price for the limited selection on the lot.
in 2023, even if you custom order, you pay full msrp. It sucks.
