- I found this little gem at a place I had driven past numerous times and finally decided to stop and check it out. So glad I did!!! This is a 1942 steel case WWII Zippo with original 14 hole chimney insert.

I found an obituary for him. He was a military police sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II, and later was a police officer. There are some notes in his hometown newspaper about letters he wrote home during the war. You can search for him in the Door County Library newspaper archive.
That is so cool!!! That is the same guy I had found as well!! Thank you for finding his actual obituary. For me, it's really cool to find out he was from Door County as well. My family stems from there. Next time I'm in Sturgeon Bay, I'll have to stop at their library and print out his obituary. He definitely saw a lot of action during WWII.
@@zippolyonsden1623 One of his letters from North Africa mentioned the Red Cross care packages they were getting from home with fruit, candy, and cigarettes. The whole letters aren't published in the newspaper, just little bits the parents must have told to the editor or a reporter. It sounds a lot like the stories in that Ernie Pyle book!

I've just been looking at the site Shorty mentioned. The guy who owned this Zippo may have actually known my Grandfather Lyons. They grew up in the same area and had to have attended school together.

Beautiful old Zippo and with a cool history
It definitely is a real beauty. Turns out the soldier whose name is on it was from the same area of Wisconsin that my family stems from. He was the same age as my grandfather. Makes me wonder if they knew one another.

I have a spare authentic camp spring if u need it. I was saving it for mine but I never got one.
Oh, cool! May have to take you up on that. I'm waiting for the tool I need in order to rivet the spring in correctly. The one I currently have is too big. It's made for the flat and not the humped cam springs. Should be here by the end of the month.
