Five feet tall In the middle of a tiny circle Forty people is barely a crowd The smallest bird of a woman Only five feet tall Poured her devoted soul out How can she sing so loud? I never saw anything so vulnerable in my life. Next to a little puddle of water The only ornament in her humble stage This unshielded creature Made sure you felt her heart ache. I never saw anything so vulnerable in my life. And it makes me cry Just to think about the beauty of that moment God must have bestowed a voice so poignant On that fragile, gentle spirit Just to show us what a miracle is like. Jessica Ferreira Coury Magalhães
She seems so fragile and vulnerable there playing for these people surrounding her. I had never seen anything quite like this before. It's very touching in a way, how she opens up like that, being so close to her audience. It takes a lot of courage. I'm amazed. I feel like giving her a hug
It's definitely powerful at the end, but there's a couple moments in the first 1/4 where she looks bored sort of like Arlo Gurthrie in Alice's Restaurant when he said "I'm waiting for it to come back around on the GUItar"
@@TheLudovic13she never looked bored to me. Just very vulnerable and small, and emotional. This video makes me so emotional for some reason. Performing for like 40 people that close to you. That must be a little frightening. You can feel her soul pouring out. She is baring her soul there. It's quite an extraordinary video. Almost spiritual.
This makes me happy. Seems like something from the days when music meant more to us than it does now (even though we NEED it now more than ever). Someone with something to say, stands up and pours it out of her soul through music. Beautiful.
she's so incredible! i mean if i was there i'd be too nervous : ( she's probably used to doing shows but *they're all around her!* and on the same ground. you're so amazing, Julien!
And now she’s a Grammy-winner.
She just opens up and gives a piece of her soul to the world.
What a performance.
I always cry when she cries at the end. I instantly swell up.
Five feet tall
In the middle of a tiny circle
Forty people is barely a crowd
The smallest bird of a woman
Only five feet tall
Poured her devoted soul out
How can she sing so loud?
I never saw anything so vulnerable in my life.
Next to a little puddle of water
The only ornament in her humble stage
This unshielded creature
Made sure you felt her heart ache.
I never saw anything so vulnerable in my life.
And it makes me cry
Just to think about the beauty of that moment
God must have bestowed a voice so poignant
On that fragile, gentle spirit
Just to show us what a miracle is like.

She plays at the coolest venues
She was supposed to play inside but the shop only holds about 20 people so it became an alley show real quick.
and in Woodstock Nostalgic weather
She's playing tonight at Madison Square Garden, so yeah
Still get goosebumps at the last part of the song.
i love julien baker w my whole heart
This is what music is about.
Woah, this is raw.
Amazingly affecting performance. Fun game: start at about 2:45 and see how many people in the crowd you can count wiping their eyes.

I think she is, but I think it's out of gratitude. She's also dealing with some heavy subject matter in her songs...
