Necrons casually respawning faster than DG can kill them
The new Res Protocol and Orb rules are what got me most excited for this edition
A note on what Luca said about Reanimation Protocols and keeping friends, you aren't allowed to be scummy anymore (I'm also not sure you were allowed to in 9th)
When models are added to a unit during the battle they must be placed within coherency range of models that were on the table at the start of the phase.
So if a Necron/Death Guard/Tyranid/etc player tries to do this, show them Page 1 of the rules commentary document
I like the new trend of winter themed Death Guard I've been seeing around. It's not my style but it does look cool and it's smart to attack during cold and flu season.
Ell he is from Iowa and the winters there suck glad I moved south couple years ago
As a Necrons player attempting to learn DG, this is quite a lovely match to watch.
I think the tip is when learning DG: Don't bother
Brave is the man who plays Death Guard in this edition.
I have an old lost and the damned army. I decided now was the time to turn it into a proper Death Guard army. I want to see if they're really that hard to play.
They are a great introductory army for new players to play AGAINST!
As a death guard player I can say that we are, at the very least, determined
You might even call them mentally ill (it's a joke I swear)
I'm sure gw will at least try and figure out how to balance them and give them something good or at least fun and unique because apparently they aren't allowed to be durable anymore
Pro-tip: some of your plague marines might find employment in a CSM army, where Nurgle marked Legionnaires and Chosen and terminators have their upsides. You could be closer to a CSM army than you think, which has better Nurgle rules than straight up Nurgle marines (because Gdubs is durrrr).
Your attitudes are so wholesome and friendly, it makes these battreps a joy to watch. This is how 40k should be played.
DG vs Necrons. Mad respect for the DG player to bring the hard mode faction.
That "thanks Skare" under Luka's breath got me good
You have to declare targets when shootting weapons BEFORE you shoot (34:54). You can't just see how it goes and pump more into the target or see it die and switch to another unit.
It's a very important rule.
A bit of 8th sneaking back in.
@@stevens9625 no you had to do that in 8th as well, that's just a rules oversight in general.
the best DG list.
1 x Warhound Titan.
1 x Knight
then fill in with DG units :D
I mean... u can also bring some demons.
@@Mastercio well been thinking about that for my army, though without the warhound :D
Or a few Brigands IF you can find any....
Really hope that GW do an emergency rebalance on DG. Not a ton of hope but there's a chance.
They'll be doing points updates every 3 months, so expect it within 3 months.
@@christopherclayton5500 feel like they need more than points changes but it'll help.
Just feels like nothing in the army does anything particularly well.
@@Blight02 Good news from the future, there is going to be a balance/points pass next week so might get lucky.
Really hope that GW do an emergency rebalance on 10e as a whole. It's really obvious that they shoved an unfinished ruleset out the door before testing it to meet a deadline.
@Blight02 I think it will take more than points to be enjoyable, but not more than points to be balanced, if that makes sense?
Looking at the points of DG is truly frustrating in its own right.
Amen, quite a bit could use a drop. PBC, Helbrute, PMs, Poxxys.
My DG army got like 300-400 points cheaper with 10th edition. Have not played it yet though.
I'd have been using pox walkers, I think I'd have left the terminators at the house, and probably said bye to the tallyman and maybe used a squad or two of cultists. Maybe left mortarion at home for a couple more squads of marines.
My DG haven't changed much, points dropped almost exactly enough for an extra unit of Terminators
The points aren't so much the issue, IMO, as the datasheets we're paying for. I dont wanna run heaps of models, I dont want to run super killy units or models. I want to be hard to kill and just wear the enemy down. And we currently do... neither of those things haha.
I've never seen anyone worry about coherency as much as Luka does
Man I wanna see Lukka goof around with 40 Warriors and Illuminor Szeras he's such a cool model and now he's actually fun to run
ikr the 4+ invulns he gives out is so good + once per game he just goes beast mode and likely wipes a unit from the table
@@josephvaccariello4181That would be Orikan.
Dude I’m literally painting my szeras right now
Those dice are absolutely busted 😂
"typically durable"
please, stop rubbing the salt in the wound...
Reanimator tanking stuff like a boss. From zero in 9th to hero in 10th \o/
Doesn't it have an invul?
Nope that was the doomstalker that got it. Boo. My some wiped mine turn two last night anyway... I got over eager and wanted his shots to badly.
Man i love the new Necrons! And pls more games with them.
The Monolith is so awsome. You could further buffing him up by taking the leader Aura Endhancement. So he gets +1 BS and +1 on the RP stratagan, Further more, a Canoptek Spyder would give him a 6+ FNP. He could tank so much!
How do you mean +1 from the RP Stratagem?
Even better, for 1CP you can get full re-roll to wound
@@dr.feelgoodmalusphillips2475 If you have a charakter with the enhancement for leading, then when using the undying legion strat you gain D3+1
"Reanimation Protocols and reanimates
D3 wounds. When doing so, if a Necrons
Character is leading your unit, your unit
reanimates D3+1 wounds instead."
@@Dewoy1 Ah, I see nice.
@@Dewoy1 what leader can take this? Because I don't see any of the leaders having this as an option
I am suspecting an outcome. I will edit if confirmed.
Confirmed.
Anyone want to place bets on how badly the death guard get stomped by the crons?
Fr
Especially with those sus rolls from Luka 😂
@@D-Z321 - just the Luka the dice!
God the Death Guard got massacred.
Only units they killed were a unit of 3 Scarabs, and a Cryptek who died do to coherency issues. They lost everything but a Predator, their 2 named Characters, and a single Terminator.
As a DG player, I’m not surprised at this outcome…just disappointed in GW for what they’ve done to my boys
Hey Ryan, I totally understand your point of view however... This DG list isn't competitive at all. I'm still running DG but I've changed my list. I'm running at least 2 X Crawlers, 2 X blightlord terminators and 2 X death shroud terminators. Keep with DG just shake it up a little!
My issue isn’t with the list but rather the functionality and synergy of the army. An optimised mono-DG list is severely outclassed by a competitive Eldar or GSC list.
Personally, I’m going to play DG because I like the lore and aesthetic. I just disagree with the choices GW made on how they are represented on the tabletop for this new edition.
Necrons vs Chaos Space Marines with a couple allied dg units.
What did they do to my DG
“It’s infected and sticky so you don’t need to worry about it” I sure hope you never try to group up with me in a zombie apocalypse.
Fun facts, as per the FAQ update, you must add all restored models to a unit within cohesion with the living models, you are unable to string out
You should really add some Cryptothralls to the Necron list. Makes the warriors a lot more durable. You basically get 2 2W models with the same armor but with 4+ FNP. And they benefit from the warriors d6 Reanimation.
You mean durable until 10th edition.
Watching this while working on my necrons, I enjoy seeing the Lychguard and Reanimator in action as the Lychguard I have adored since they first showed up with those shields, and the Reanimator I wanted last edition but couldn't justify running one, now it's getting put together.
Also as you said, Reaper Squads are good with a way to reposition them, be it Veil or Monolith, or just summoning them with a night scythe.
i think you could have used monolith ability instead of fall back with those warriors (1:31:00 or something) after that you would be eligible to shoot
I’m not totally sold on warriors yet. Immortals cost 2 points more per model and have +1 save, +1T, +1BS, re-roll to wound and a better gun. Sure the warriors reanimate better, but they also take more wounds
I think the warriors and immortals are pretty close in their effectiveness me personally I use the warriors as cannon fodder at front of the battle while my overlord leads my immortals a little farther back just casually throwing 10 shots into other frontline units
Great batrep. It is informative, such that I am learning what these two armies can do as I own neither. Plus friendly and pleasant to watch (not grating with attempts at comedy) and listen, especially given the appalling performance of the DG player's dice rolls. Good sportsmanship there. :) And, dayam, your South Paw skilz in rolling dice one handed while the right hand holds the camera. :D
I didn't really see how the DG player was using his CPs. I would think the battle with the Terminators and Mortarion could have really benefitted from the Sanguous Flux CP allowing Sustained Hits 1 or 2 if near controlled objective. Those extra hits would have been invaluable to clear out those reanimating Necrons.
if he didnt use the cp the land raider would prob be dead from the death beams hitting it
DG matches are always a fun to watch
You could have pulled the necron warriors out of combat with mortarion using the monoliths portal in order to relocate them and still allow them to shoot...
Cool batrep 😁 thanks
Iowa death guard represents
The amount of 1s the death guard player rolled 😢
Death Guard durable....ha
Sean from Iowa! I am also from Iowa. Good luck man. Hope you had fun.
Boilblight is only if there is a DG unit within Contagion range of the target...
Good battle report! Also I like reaper warriors with a royal warden and chronomancer. Advance and fire from royal warden and chronomancer moves them back afterwards to kite. Its good that now both weapons for warriors seem like good picks though. Also used to feel cheesy doing the stringing out models thing with reanimation in 9th edition, but now they fixed it in 10th so you can't do that anymore which is good.
So Im going to point out that wasn't a lord of contagion. He was using a death guard chaos lord in term armour. Same base as the blightlords. The Lord of contagion is on the same base as typhus
I think it was a Huge mistake for Mortarion to not go into those Lychguard. There was no way for him to do enough damage in just the fight phase to put a significant dent in the warriors and finishing the Lychguard even if the Characters wouldn't be killed, getting rid of an entire unit is tantamount to beating Necrons. Always go for the full kill against Crons otherwise you're not gonna have a chance. Not that DG had much of one in the first place in their current state.
Also, Luka needs to go over the Basics again. Piling in is a must with all models as well as fighting. Only shooting do you get to choose not to do.
How are death guard durable
And this ladies and gents, is why you never, ever, ever, spread out your squads of Necron warriors like that.
Yeah, I built all my Warriors with Reapers. But I got a 3D printer so I never need to buy GW minis again.
I took a LOV for blast buffing for plague burst crawler, defiler, and predator. 20 blob of poxawlkers with typhus, and 2 blobs of cultist with grenade launchers to sit on objs. Going to play a 1k game at some point. Other than that I'll probably do the same as the dg list if the 1k list goes good. DG stuff is very costly, doesn't do any damage and isn't very tanky...
Feels like Nurgle is concerned this Death Guard aren't spies for Tzeentch with all that blue and white.
I really don't get why cleanse and tempting target don't have a turn 1 clause that they don't score until the end of the opponent's turn.
Feels like things might have been better for the Death Guard if they focus fired more on street sweeping. I get the concept of trying to take out the big things, to cripple the army, but you can't reanimate a dead unit.
Can you use the eternity gate turn one because reserves aren’t allowed turn 1? What I’m I missing here? Also I don’t think you could have used protocol of undying legion a second time for 0 cp because it says if you’ve used it on a different unit
His Dice are loaded!!
Very much so
I think I see why this game lasted nearly three hours. Dude loves to talk about his monolith.
Why wasn't the monolith deployed via deepstrike? It lets you get a full turn of max shooting without being shot at first, and get further up the field.
3 defiler, 3 crawler, 2 predator destructor, 2x lord of virulence 2x5 blightlird terminators.
Im going to try this list. Called DG Boomblasta.
Time to dust off the Necrons I painted for 9th but never played...
@2:13:25 they needed to make a test to leave combat because that unit was battle shocked.
58:18 those guys are not in cover as the monolith can see all the squad?
Lol I think if I were to play him I'd end up setting fire to those taco cat dice.
I really wanted too
Hi guys, nice br! REALLY
Just remember cover save cannot go below 3+ for any reason 🤪
Jeeeesus christ, that DG player needs to thin his paints! Those coats are thick enough to give them their FNP back. xD
On one hand, chronomancer on lychguard and no cryptothralls. on the other hand, it's DG.
I will say that I think the DG player kept forgetting the plagueburst crawler's force battleshock ability?
for pile in if you pile in one you pile in all
48:00 I thought the rule for piling in was if you can you have to. Am I misunderstanding how this works? Coherency is the unit and not the character attached to it, right?
You're right, this is a mistake on their end. When you select a unit to fight, they must pile in, and they must end in base to base contact if possible. The lychguard were supposed to pile in fully
No, the rule says you can move each model that is not already in base contact, not that you must. If you do move a model, it must end closer to the closest enemy and in base contact if possible, but you can move as many or as few models in a unit as you choose.
So necrons have a character that can give a squad a 5+++ but death guard don’t… instead it’s a 2CP stratagem only in fight phase. Are GW high? Why does every other team get what is supposedly ‘too busted’ for death guard.
At the 48 minute mark, was that reanimation done correctly? Can Necrons reanimate before they slap back in the fight phase!?
great battle report as normal :) question for you, were did you get that grass from on your necrons it looks realy dam good. good to see someone with same army as me ;)
2.33mins…
I guess Luka called it 🤣
First off, love the game guys.
Second, what was GW thinking when they got to Death Guard? They dropped the ball and this army is suffering. I hope their codex helps them but know G dubbs, DG players will be suffering.
Luka im not through this yet but your rolls are much better than last game. One question....whats the point of the tek thats with the lychguard?
Pretty sure there’s a rule for bringing back models, and you can’t chain out.
Now I am wondering, because he is using a chaos chosen as a plague marine, is that allowed??
Realized afterwards that I messed up boilblight
Thin your paint too. The paint coats are so thick that it’s obscuring some of the model details. Just add a little water to thin… 😢
And didn't make Flayed ones take Battleshock after Plagueburster shot at them. Doh! We all do it mate, it's not the end of the world.
@@D-Z321 Sadly I didn't like an old paint scheme so most of these models are stripped and repainted and lost some details in the stripping process
You made the critical error or thinking that a DG stratagem could be good without some bizarre conditions on it :P
tachyon arrow is one use only. the orb is not. the ressurection orb is far better.
Really gotta love how bad the Tachyon Arrow has been for several editions. Like, they could have at least made it Indirect, or Precise and [Anti-Character 2+] or something. It's sooooo bad.
Nobody is taking it over the res orb.
Luka regarding the protocol of the undying legion stray there is a big debate on that as it says you activate yout reanimation protocols and reanimate d3 so people are debating if wartiors get just d3 or get d6+d3
IMO it's just the D3 / D3+1 from the Stratagem plus additional D3 from the Reanimator if nearby. D6/D3+3 only in command phases
Dang those dg dice need to be retired lol. Roll infinite 1s except when vehicles blow up
Just got into Warhammer right before 10th came out.
Bought 4,000 points worth of DG before ever playing a game.
Now I don't even want to. At least they look cool, I guess.
I have a similar story to you.
Decided to get back into Warhammer recently and chose DG as my army. Didn't buy 4,000 points worth, but did shell out a pretty penny for the OOP Forgeworld plague marine kits from eBay so that I could pad numbers of my squads out a bit (I don't want repeat models in my army list). The 10th edition has scuppered my plans.
I could spend time and effort converting the models and painting them, but then again, I don't want to risk having all my work wasted if anything changes with DG in the future, like, for instance, if their weapon upgrades no longer become free. The project has been put on hold, despite me spending a, quite frankly, unnecessary amount of money on DG shite.
Looks like I'm starting a Seraphon army until GW pulls their finger out.
Hey man, don't despair! I started in the previous edition and I chose Necrons. We weren't hot at all but I still enjoyed my games and most importantly my models. Thing is, most of the time you gonna play with friends and chill people (at least you should!) so whatever the hyper-competitive people tell you on the internet doesn't matter. You can also play with homebrew rules if you feel like it. Most people want to have fun and if DG really is bad they'll let you bring extra units to counter balance or give you some sort of advantage (unified FNP6 for everyone or similar).
Don't let the meta and people on the internet ruin your fun. I truly believe that metachasing is highway to regret. And even then, the meta changes all the time. Maybe Dg gets a glow up in their codex. Maybe they drop their points soon.
I hope you find your enjoyment in the game and in your dudes. DG is pretty cool. I have a second army with AdMech so I'm in a similar situation than you. And I have zero problem with this. I still think AdMech looks cool. I'm still gonna have fun by painting them. I hope you have a nice day!
PS: and don't forget that a lot of people will sell their minis. Here's a prime time to get cheap models you love!
By the time you finish painting them, DG should get buffed. Don’t distress. You can always compensate with custom house rules as another commenter said
Hoping Luka actually knows how to use the Monolith in this game opposed to last game.
He used it quite well this game
Not as big of an issue against Death Guard instead of infinite Dark Lance spam
Where do you get your terrain? For example that three story ruined building in the beginning near the Monoliths initial deployment.
this game was painful to watch, the match up is already bad but then the dice rolls just turn the blade.
How are you guys getting a 1+ save?
I have no idea what's going on. I have no idea why this showed up. I read the books and even have my own Necron units I've painted just because I like the way they look. I have no idea how many of this game works.
If you go by the rules monolith isn't blocking LOS to anything behind...
Man, they need a clarification for the Undying legions strat. I've seen it done 3 different ways in bat reps across different channels.
You get target by an attack, you lose models cause of it, you regenerate; I don't see where you can misread this
@daleodorito for warriors specifically, the "activates reanimation protocols and ranimate d3 wounds" is unclear. If they wanted specifically d3, why put activates rp. If they just want it to trigger rp why include and reanimates d3. Is it a conjuctive and or an additive and? Is it reminder text or part of the rule? The English language is unlear that way and there are MUCH better ways they could have written that
@@AdolfCritler210 I am pretty sure it just means that they trigger RP (activating any sinergy); and doing so, they regenerate D3/D3+1 instead of whatever they would normally
@daleodorito yeah, but do warriors get d6+1/d3+4 instead as stated on their data sheet? Usually data sheet rules override other rules. I'm not trying to argue what's right or wrong. I'm just stating they did not write the rule clearly, which is not uncommon for GW.
if you're not within or wholly within a ruin your unit cant see enemies and cant be seen by enemies or no?
The Chaos Spawns at the beginning wouldnt be able to get shot at from the monolith?
Correct me if im wrong please - kinda new to warhammer
Towering units can see and be seen through ruins now
You are right in principle, BUT... the Monolith has the "Towering" keyword. Aircraft and towering models use true line of sight even if there's terrain feature between them. That goes for both sides, so in turn itself can also be seen behind terrain if there is line of sight
Also oddly enough if a model is partially within a ruin they can't see through it but can be see in it. The worst option. Never do this unless you absolutely have to.
Thanks for clarification ya'll :)
you really should get an Illuminor model for your warriors. it gives them a -1ap which is so critical with 10th
Why did you guys say overlord is leadership 4? Datasheet says leadership 6+. Am i missing something?
Oh I found the answer. They fucked up and used the named character overlord datasheet from Combat Patrol that has leadership 4+. This poor DG player doesn't need the necrons to have even stronger rules than they already do.
You can no longer string the reanimations out (has to come back adjacent to a model that was there at the beginning of the phase). You really don't need to keep going on about that. I'm not even sure why it's such a big deal when it was such a weak rule in 9th. It was hard to live long enough to even use it, and it only really worked on warriors.
edit: The reanimate after battleshock was clarified in FAQ, but it did need the clarification as the wording in the command phase section was too broad
You can use eternity gate every turn, and you can draw units that are engaged in melee - so you could take lychguard out of melee range, shoot target and charge back into melee (edit: this is wrong), since eternity doesnt count as fallback.
Units that use the Eternity Gate cannot charge.
@@user-kc4lk4ey9t Yup, my fault - but still can shoot.
I had the best overwatch last weekend, I had a Knight Despoioer with 2 Rapid Fire Battle Cannons against a squad of 24 models. (Its Radpid Fire 2D6+3, Blast) had 35 dice on the pair of them then some stubbers and some havoc auto cannons. Ended up killing over 10 models on the overwatch. Best 0CP (chaos lord in term armor free strat) I ever spent
Would you be allowed to bring those Lychguard back on Turn 1 instantly? It says if they are on the battlefield they are placed into Reserves? Wouldn't that stop them then being brought on Turn 1? Or am I being a total idiot and missing something 😂
It mentions going back into reserves before you put them back on the table for the purpose of the enemy being able to use the Overwatch Stratagem against anything coming out of the Monolith!
@@lukapavicevic335 Thanks Luka, that makes sense mate!
i love that you guys are still keeping DG on the board since its one of my top 3. but the intro already made me sad because the is nothing durable about the DG anymore in any way shape or form. literally orks have become more durable than DG.... still i live seeing my stinkies around
am i lost on something? I keep seeing people making cover saves vs flamers... dont all flamers ignore cover?
You're right, they have the "ignores cover" rule
I love Luka, but I hope he knows that his “hypothetical rolls” do not actually reflect what someone “would have rolled” and are a complete waste of time. 😅
The DG units he picked are the worst. Chaos spawns... predator anihilator instead of haulers... typhus instead of lord of virulence with crawlers indirect combo...
All you have to do is roll 6s and win. It's easy..
"typically durable" the deathguard are not durable anymore, they are bottem of the totam pole and the only army i own X(
