As a product of the legendary JKA instructor course he quickly earned a reputation as a fierce competitor with a win at all cost attitude. Yahara sensei is always at his best. He has a unique charisma, a real samurai. Legends are not born all the time. He is probably one of those Last samurais on this planet. Respects. Blessed to have him as my teacher (sensei)
I saw Yahara sensei warm up before he taught the black belt class at Ebisu dojo back in the early eighties. It was scary just to be in the same room with him. He unleashed his kicks with such force that if he connected with an unfortunate soul, it would be all over. I am grateful for the memories and the opportunity to have been there.
He with out doubt one of my time gentil destroyer and amongst the late Enoeda and Kanazawa teacher of Shotokan Karate Do.
Bring your Enemy down, the fastest way possible, that is what Yahara Sensei taught me, in private, All in All out, this the difference between Yahara Sensei and anyone else. OSS Sensei.

Mr. Yahara practices real karate, a fighting art developed centuries ago for that purpose, it's not sport or Hollywood karate & not for the faint of heart since real karate is dangerous because when life or limb are threatened, the alternative is a trip to the hospital or morgue.
It’s very strange because it’s a double edged sword. Yes it can be seen as dangerous but would you rather be a dangerous man and return home to your family safe, or would you rather be a pacifist and end up with serious life threatening injuries from an attacker?
I agree with you, but I also think that it is not a problem if he follows the DOJO KUN, when it says "First, refrain from violent behaviour". So, be dangerous when needed, but do not be a violent person.
I don't think Yahara is a violent person, seems his mantra is he will finish anything an enemy is crazy enough to start & one needs to be in that mindset if one wants to survive an attack.

He is over 60, dude. And MMA is not the measure of how an street fight works.

after all development is countless of new techniques in the world of martial arts, he still sticks with the rotating punch. A bit boring now. I believe he should find other moves
The rotating strike has it's uses, not one of my favorites but Mr Yahara makes up for it with his combat karate, not the Hollywood or sport version.
I think that MMA are more boring by far. They are industrial "martial arts". All the fighters do the same things. No personality. They are full of steroids, hormones and other drugs. They have been doing the same over and over again for more than 20 years. The same 10 or 15 techniques used over and over (boxing hooks, wrestling, low kicks, arm locks, knee locks...). It's like mainstream music. They do what they know worked for others in the sport so they never change. Sometimes it appears somebody original like Lyoto Machida or Wonderboy but the rest are the same. No individual style.
Tattoos, long beards, shaved heads and other bully appearances to intimidate the opponent are also boring and ugly. Their disrespectful attitude is also boring and ugly. You don't see respectful people like Kagawa or Yahara. Just bullies everywhere.
I think I prefer Yahara's rotating techniques.
And besides, it is only a training day. You can see how creative and habilidous he is here
