This is what really matters when you take a solo (not chops, scales, theory...)

More than anything, this gives me some confidence that my basic as hell soloing skills can actually be useful. 😂
Dave Gilmour is a great example to emulate... he's not flashy and all of his solo's are simple (reasonably simple), melodic and to the point... there are very few of his solo's that you can't whistle along to.
Loved your solo, gave me some Nels Cline vibes. Tasteful AF
Wonderful content & playing
Exactly, mate. Nothing showy. Melody, rhythm, etc. Something you can hum is always the sign of a good solo.
Loved this type of lesson Adrian it is easy to follow with your usual slow pace . I have learned a lot from this and from you also over the past years. So thanks again and more of this type would be welcome.
This is a wonderful menu to choose from for when you're at a loss.
Superb video and feel like I have learned more with this than many others.
You are absolutely correct, I think you should be able to whistle or hum the solo, going back a few years Hank Marvin of The Shadows, when he did a variation of the melody you could remember it and hum along, David Gilmore’s solo’s you can sing along to, it’s memorable. Melody always trumps flash imho.
Great video. Simple and yet complex concepts packaged into a more workable format for a lead solo for us intermediates. Highly recommended video to watch over and over again
You have a point.. I don't think the Beatles, especially Harisson were into practicing scales and loading themselves with lots of music theory.. They had notions of course of solfege and music theory but seemed to use their imagination, creativity and instinct as the driving force.. Yet as we all know they changed the music scene forever..
Another stellar lesson, and tips on issues very much needed by most musicians and soloists. Thanks again!
Excellent! Anytime you want to make more of these style, feel free! :) Nicely done Adrian
You never seem to put a note in the wrong place. So, the point for me is, you do need to know your scales intimately before going on to this video lesson. Great lesson, just the same. Thank you!
Really helpful. Thanks Adrian...
This is REALLY well done. Really helps me simplify what I’m trying to do as I try to break through the beginner plateau.
Great lesson, and some important points to keep in mind when developing a solo. Keeping these concepts in mind also helps develop hearing relationships between solo phrases and the chord progression. A looper pedal is a great tool.
You da man! Love the simplicity. Well done mate
Fantastic lesson Adrian, really comes across with simple ideas to provide great results. Thank you for sharing this lesson !
Great lesson on soloing ideas Adrian. I’m sure a lot of guitarists forget that the spaces you leave between phrases are just as important. I know I do. Scale runs simply never sound as memorable as melodic phrases you can actually hum. Targeting chord tones is a great addition to the soloing tool box. Loved the jazz licks you played at the end of the video. Hopefully you might consider adding a few more jazz lessons in the future. Thank you again Adrian.
This is really helpful. Well thought out as usual.
Awesome stuff thank you. Your menu of ideas now gives me a a framework to work to and try to escape (bad) scale noodling which does not sound like music at all. 🎸
Hello sir your tutorial is great..thnks for lesson
Excellent lesson
Thanks for that...I needed it !
Brilliant!!!! Thanks!!!
Amazingly helpful video! It's so easy to mindlessly noodle with no idea where to go or how to structure a solo. Also, while I'm here, a request to do some Khruangbin please!
Thanks for teaching us how to become more musical 🎉.
Here's a band suggestion for the subject of a video - Bush Tetras
Gosh you’re early today………superb as always
Scales, modes, arpeggios, triads, ive tried them all! Focusing like this would probably be more useful.
Tasty solo!
nice, I like it
Superb…
Playground Twist, Staircase Mystery or Christine please ?!?!
Very nice video, very useful. And I'm hoping you're gonna have some discount on your guitar courses come Christmas. I need to bump up my game. 😄
Hi can you do a video explaining your Patreon site, I dont understand what you have to do , or what you get. I am in the UK and have limited funds and only really want the Siouxsie tabs and backing tracks? like can you download the backing trake?. i have no idea what you get!
It occurred to me the greatest challenge for Adrian is to teach the Adrian Belew solo from the Talking Heads song the Great Curve.
Any chance you could do a breakdown of James Burton's lead guitar work on the studio version of Judy Collin's Someday Soon found on her Who Knows Where the Time Goes album? Thanks to her voice, Buddy Emmon's pedal steel and Burton's lead fills and solo this was a massive hit for Collins and helped get Country Rock started. Although you can find vids about Emmon's Steel parts, NOBODY has ever discussed Burton's stuff ... and it only appears on this record.
could you do a song by The Jam like Start that has a great short solo?
Cool lesson…what guitar is that?
Hi there. Do you take requests? if so can you do the Survivor song " I cant hold back" i just came across your page you put up extra tutorials. Thank you and God bless. Keep up the great work you do
less is more ... wonderful solo. Almost like your guitar is talking to me.
... ok, I understand :-)
Where you from
Hello everybody! I'm looking for a youtube guitar inspirateur much like Adrian here who used to make really accurate guitar covers and upload them to the tubes. Occasionally he would make a sort of lesson and explain what he was doing. I don't think he ever showed his face. I yhink his YT handle had the word Private in it, and then maybe his name, Private Pete or something. Although i think he had to shut it down for some reason and started a new account with a new name. Anyone know who im talking about? He would play alot of like Beatles, T.rex, Zeppelin, Clash, well alot of stuff, he was very productive.
privettricker. His current channel is @jamesjames9275.
Its triad inversion, simple, yet difficult to bring nice melody..
The Cure new guitar reeves does a lot of guitar solos which the cure never did that look at me go guitar solos
You know what happens when you get this wise…..
The mask comes off of trying to be a fancy guitar player….
And you realise a solo is only there because….
A singer is not available to sing those notes….
Never forget that….
Language, brother. Always. Language.
