Chef, I have to say I love your videos. I'm lucky enough to have a bit of natural talent when it comes to baking and decorating, but your videos have given me the proper technique. My question is when will you be posting a video to show the writing technique? That one is much harder to master and I'm so looking forward to it!

Unfortunately, I do not have plans on posting a video on writing. That is as unique to each decorator as their personal handwriting.

Good point. If you want to make white buttercream with butter, look for butter in a health food store or Co-op that has no added coloring. Natural butter is a very pale yellow while American butter is colored yellow.

I am a total amateur that has been hired at a grocery store in the bakery department. Currently I'm am training on icing rectangle cakes. I have hit Pintrest and binge watching CZcams videos on how to. I iced 4 cakes by myself my Supervisor saw them today and was totally impressed giving me the side eye..😏,"you did this?" Thanks for sharing I want to do some for my family but nobody's cakes eaters round here..😑 and it may give room for my husband to indulge in his fat kid lives cake moments which have to be chocolate chocolate chip, like his sister makes, which is untouchable..😂😂

this really helped me do a basic decoration. i just started decorating cakes!!
Traditional and REAL buttercream in made with butter and will cause the icing to be yellow. In the USA, many people make buttercream icing with high-ration shortening and butter flavoring. For this demonstration, I used an icing that had no butter in it.

Hi Alan! Thank you so much for this tutorial, love way you explained how to decorate the cake. I use buttercream using High ratio shortening. Its' so much better then Crisco. Thank's again, and keep up the great work!
