Well, it is a Sonic game. Most of the time you want to go fast, since there aren't many other games where you can go so fast.
My weakness in games: Force Patience.
Always kills me more than fast reflex based levels. XD
Sonic the Hedgehog 1 had very clever pacing. The first level was to teach you that speed is your friend but level 2 is to teach you that sometimes speed is your enemy.
The levels go fast, slow, fast, slow, fast, slow because the designers thought fast all time would get tiring.
It's hard to believe that the human voice can sound so instrumental!
before the first instruments were invented by humans, these WERE our instruments :D
if you want some human voice wildness, go checkout the ulating in a lot of middle eastern/indian music, or even the type of music the mongols would make using their voices

And people still swear up and down that Sonic classic was 100% pure speed. Go ahead and try to do that in Marble Zone...or Labyrinth, or Scrap Brain, Chemical Plant act 2, Mystic cave, Aquatic Ruin, Mechapolis, Hydrocity, Marble Garden, Launch Base, Flying Battery, Sandopolis, Lava Reef, Collision Chaos, etc zones. See how long you last without dying.
Totally man. Back then speed was an option, not a necessity. Marble Zone is still a great level, even if people complain because it changes the pace. In most levels the speed came later after practice. Because the "speed" motif is what people remembered, the game sadly became a parody of itself.
I think this is your best one yet. I've always loved the Marble Zone music. Excellent stuff, Smooth!

The way the harmony parts in this version are balanced makes this miles more musically interesting than the original song.
I loved this level back in the day, when I was a tiny toddler turning 3 years old. This acapella seriously made this level's catchy song sound way sexier than it already was. *starts bobbing my head to it again*

This song more than anything throws me back to the 90s. I get hit with a mess of songs that my big sister used to listen to
Oh man, this level. When playing Sonic 1, you're like "Hell yeah, Green Hill Zone. Gotta go fast. This is awesome." Then, they drop you into this level and you have to be all slow most of the time, carefully platforming your way through three acts of fire and crap. -_- But I have to admit, the music is pretty cool. And so is your cover of it, Smooth. :)

This level was just a punch in the face of the game's core concept. Here's a speedy platformer! Now the second level will give you absolutely none of that and punish you for going fast.

Omniplayer Well anyway almost every track in Sonic1 is good. I just said that based on both my tastes and the popularity each track seems to have in the internet.
Let's just say Sonic's osts on genesis are awesome. Even though I have a clear preference for Sonic3&Knuckles and Sonic1 osts, personnally (personnally).
Is it just me, or was this stage hard as hell??! I couldn't get past it when I was 5 years old. 1 out of 50 times I would pass it but then I would not get pass spring yard zone either...that's the furthest I have gotten back then..
Yeah. Me too. When I was 7, I could never get past the boss of Spring Yard. But now that I'm ten years older, I can beat it quickly now that I'm a speed runner. I can beat the first level of Sonic 3&K in 50 seconds flat.
Dr.Robotnik is what gets me most of the time in this zone, over then that it's the Labarinth both fight with him that gets me. Sonic: WATER! MAH ONLY WEAKNESS!"

I remember the first time I played this game I was at a friend's house (I only had Sonic 2 at the time) and the very first time I played it I got all the way to Spring Yard Zone. Don't know how, and he was super impressed because even he had never gotten there and he was the one who owned the game. xD

Ugh, I've always hated this zone. I understand that you have to take it slow if you want to enjoy it, but when I play a game called "Sonic the Hedgehog", I expect speed mixed with some platforming. Green Hill Zone had the perfect mix of speed and platforming, so the fact that this extremely slow paced zone follows immediately after is kinda jarring. Then again, Labyrinth Zone makes this Zone look like Speed Highway, so I should be thankful they didn't go with the original zone plan (for those who don't know, Labyrinth Zone was (supposedly) going to be the SECOND ZONE IN THE GAME). Talk about a difficulty spike!
To make things short, this zone isn't for me. Oh, yeah, and great acapella, Smoothy.

I know I'm going to get some hate for this but...
Parts of this sound a bit "off" to me. I can hear the whole track fine but the noise levels of your achepella seem to be preventing me from hearing parts of the original tune that were more prominent.
Maybe I'm just getting old but that's how it sounds to me.
FYI: I still enjoyed it.
