This only re-enforces my belief that Pioneer and all other hifi component companies need to restyle their _new_ hifi gear in a 70s aluminum & wood look. I'd love to see a Rotel RX-1603 remake streamer/tuner/amp/DAC AIO unit with a modern mini LED display replacing the analog tuner band & VU meters, but still retaining that iconic " ██‗⁄▬▬▬▬╛" face shape, aluminum face, dials, buttons & switches, a heavy, large volume knob and nice wood veneer case cover. The demand is there, plain to see.

Once I followed that routine, every piece appeared instantly.

My system is vintage and I love the vintage look and sound, but when you start paying $5k plus for any kind of vintage component you need to compare with purchasing a new McIntosh MA5800 unit or Luxman L550A. Better sound, new unit with warranty from a reputable company. We all want and aspire to relive our youth by purchasing the items we drooled over back in the day, but there's a cost and there's a point of diminishing return on buying older equipment even if its NOS.

I purchased a NOS Marantz preamplifier a decade ago…and I thought it would be flawless and perfect…but in fact I plugged it in and played it and it was totally distorted. Many of the electrolytic capacitors and some transistors were shot. I had it repaired…but not a total recap job. What a mistake! A few years later it has yet more failed component parts. It is now going through a total recap job! The moral of the story is: Most of these NOS Pioneer electronic components are going to need serious service…being stored so long is really hard on them. They may all need total recap service to be dependable. Even the turntable has capacitors in it.

There's only one belt in an RT-707 - the tape counter belt. However, the pinch roller is known for going bad, depending (as you said) on the environment. What I would be most worried about in all these components is the electrolytic capacitors. Caps that were never used are more likely to have failed than caps that are used at least occasionally. I would completely recap these components before ever powering them up.

Even the low-cost Dynaco stuff was preferable to anything Pioneer offered back then, to my recollection! Direct drive turntables were not even in the running as "high-end"! :O Harmon Kardon was a "high-end" consideration...David Berning was "THE" Stereophile High-end PRE-Pre amp of choice for Ortofon low-output phono cartridges. Good info Sir. Yes, I own that Pioneer FM Tuner and consider it the 1 of the Best, bought from original owner, sat in closet for 30 yrs and recent buy for $250.00 + ship & Tax brought it $300 approx. Pioneer reel to reel for that kind of money, caps and rubber wear out in time, as you mention, there is 1 on CL in my area right now for $500. Did experience this EBAY madness bidding on a Accuphase FM Tuner (Rare rare), the last 90 seconds could not even get thru, so no buy, sold for $200 approx, then about 60 days later I see it on EBAY for $900.00.

I had a TX-9500 in the late 80's (i don't remember if it was the Mk II); after an alignment it was indeed a great tuner. The one main disadvantage is that it is big and takes up a lot of space in a rack or cabinet, and eventually I sold it, for something like 300-350 as I recall.

Upgraded to LED lamps (all round). Looks and sounds excellent on a outdoor FM antenna. This is matched with a fully over the top restored Pioneer SA-7500. (CDN purchase $500 - 2 years ago) TT was a Ebay CDN seller - purchase ($300 CDN) PL-514 also came with original box and user manual. Now what I wish , say someone like yourself here in the states would do is reverse engineer these Pioneer racks to sell to all us Pioneer nuts. You have connections and just need to get some metal fabrication plant to make these. There was someone overseas doing this a few years back but was too expensive to ship here for me.
Back in 2008 I remember during the recession prices were very very low on vintage equipment and a brand new rack was on eBay and it went for a very low price. I was hurting at the time myself so this is my biggest , well 2nd biggest missed opportunity on eBay. I once missed by seconds bidding on a buy it now for a Nakamichi CR-7A brand new in the box. Guilty . . . I recently pulled an ad won for my Garrard AII, because the fragile dust cover doubled the cost of shipping.
I maintained contact with the winning bidder, and am working out the best way to ship.
I think I can halve the shipping costs if I 'crate' the turntable, creating a platform for the delicate dust cover and other fragile parts sticking up.
But, that is going to take some basic carpentry and fasteners that don't damage the plinth.
Yes . . . the shipping is more than the price of the turntable. And Ebay takes 12.9% of the shipping charges as well as their commission on the sale.

Marantz 10B about same price. Mcintosh C22 preamplifier, $225.00, Marantz 4400, $10.00 and so many other super equipments. I could never bid like these buys you mentioned here just to purchase something still in the box, after all, the bottom line is I rather listen and enjoy the performance rather than just let the equipments sits in the box and not doing the job they are built to do and paying "insane" prices like you mentioned here. Sir you are right about one
    thing. Pioneer sound systems
    are more expensive than ever
    Especially vintage turntables and receivers.

The most insane one I saw on eBay was for a Pioneer SX-1980 which I do own one that I purchase back in 1979 that was on sale for $699 and it’s still in used to this day but the bid on this was at the time $26,600 and they were is 64 bids already and they were still two days and 18 hours left.. I took a screenshot of the auction at the time that I just looked at and I cannot remember what the final bid was at the end of the auction but it had to have been more than the $26,600. On the screenshot it was dated January 15, 2021.
