Great video. It worked for my 2010 Silverado WT. It was nice to confirm that I was doing it right. I also removed my starter to get to that hidden bolt.
Just bought my 08 a couple of months ago. I have to change that gasket, plus the block off gasket for the oil cooler, and might as well change out the o ring in the pickup so I'll have better oil pressure. Great video and well explained, thank you.
I also have a 2008 silverado with the v6 which is leaking oil. I'm getting ready to change the oil pan gasket so this was the perfect video for me. Thanks for sharing!
Did that fixed your oil leak? I also have a 08 sierra 1500 v6 that leaks oil and I heard that its common for them to leak from the oil sending unit sensor. Any clue? I will be changing it on mine, will try to upload a video to my Channel of the process.
Excellent video 5*, like you said lower part of engine should be cleaned before you start this job and any wires should be rewrapped that are exposed when you are finish. Very labor intensive; Do not go cheap on your new gasket , Rock Auto has a selection to choose from. So I take it the starter should be removed to get to that one hidden bolt ?
WHY were shop teachers in 70s/80s not like you? We could have actually learned more than cleaning ashtrays and changing blinker fluid. And all in under 40 minutes, too 😉 Apologies for going off topic here (I don't have a Silverado). Did you ever make a video on how to replace the well hidden horn on a 2006 tribute (or escape, I guess). I'm losing hair I can't afford to lose, here.
Doing a 2000 astro which is technically the same engine. Oil pan is a little different but the assembly is the same. Does it matter if I apply the rtv on the corners on the pan instead of the block?
I keep a spare bucket of bolts for these occasions. If you have one bolt , visit your nearest hardware , lowes tractor supply ( my favorite ) and pick out the closest metric bolt in length. They also have a thread checker there to see exactly what size the metric bolt or nut is. Even if they do not have the length you need , you will know the size( example M8 x 1.5) etc , then internet search the length and order some of them. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.
It is kinda of hard to tell sometimes with out ruling out other potential leaks. I would start with the oil pan and go from there. Great question , thank you for watching.

No , either way is fine. Thanks for watching.
I need the part # on the mounting bolts i can't find them online

Can ask how do you if it's rear main seal or oil pan gasket? My 2008 has a leak
It is kinda of hard to tell sometimes with out ruling out other potential leaks. I would start with the oil pan and go from there. Great question , thank you for watching.
So starter didn’t have to come off?
I believe that's correct , it seemed to make it slightly easier but not entirely necessary. Thank you for watching.
